Mental the chimp was employed as a bodyguard by the American government. You can see him below in his ceremonial garb.
Despite a distinguished low-maintenance career during which he had the honour to guard such figures as Richard Nixon and
Omar Sharif, he was brutally fired when a group of animal rights activists claimed that chimp bodyguards compromised the
dignity of the whole chimpanzee family.
Always one with a short temper, Mental lived up to his name and turned violent, biting the woman he was supposed to protect
several times on different parts of her body. Yelling a chimpanzee war-cry he then stabbed the animal rights activists
to death with his ceremonial spear before running off to hide in a corner, gibbering to himself with his head in his
hands. Since then Mental the chimp has been confined in a 2 foot cubed cage with only straw to eat (see picture below). But
whose fault is it? Is it the animal rights activists that enraged poor Mental or is it Mental himself who was only doing
what the government had trained him to do?
