New 5 pesos bill
Under the motto «Same, but Better» on last June 22, the «Banco Central de la República Argentina» (Central Bank of the Argentine Republica) introduced to society the new designed paper money for 5 pesos, which predominant colours are yellowish green and reddish violet, in that order.
Printed on Argentine «Casa de Moneda» (Mint House), the piece retains the general look and dimensions (165 x 65 cm) of its ancestor, but some changes habe been made and security measures added to make uneasy its falsification.
Looking the banknote against light it allows to see the image of José de San Martín and his initials making the watermark molded on the paper.
The ink used to draw the number 5 on the upper left corner of the obverse, is iridiscent and it can be seen as green or blue depending on the watching angle. In turn, the numeric value in the right lower corner at the same face has its interior formed by the repetition of B.C.R.A. in microletters.
Always on the obverse, five little squares in relief allow to identify the value on touching and the sun matches with that which is in the reverse by transparency. The protrait is done in calcography with relief, meanwhile the security lines are printed in offset. It has security threads which are invisible and flourescent to ultraviolet light, these come in blue, red and yellow colours, spread on the whole paper. The numberings, that horizontal as much as vertical, show a flourescence, at the first case yellow and red in the second one. We see a light reaction to the ultraviolet light on the calcograph printing from reddish violet colour turning to yellowish green.
The prevailing theme is that of San Martín; besides of the portrait of our greatest national hero, this piece has his name, a copy of his last will and a reproduction of the painting «El Abrazo de Maipú» (The embracement of Maipu) by Pedro Subercaseaux, all this in the obverse, on the reverse - fully made in offset - the monument to the Army of the Andes can be seen, placed on the «Cerro de la Gloria» [Hill of the Glory](Mendoza), the biographical from our hero in brief in microletters, the image of a «Granadero» (granadier) with a clarion and facsimils of the signatures of the President of the Central Bank and the President of the Senate.
