Who or What is the Soul?

The use of the term "soul" in the Bible and it's meaning to us. The King James Version of the Bible has failed to follow the original writings of the Bible in it's use the term soul. This failure or deliberate act has led many to believe in God dishonoring beliefs, such as the immortal soul doctrine and in turn the belief in a fiery-hell.

On the other hand, The New World Translation of the Bible has placed the term 'soul' back into God's inspired word. The proper use of the term "soul" helps the truth seeking reader to discern how the world has been deceived by the act of replacing the term "soul" with other words.

Strong's Exhaustive Concordance's use of the term 'soul'. (Strong's verse in parentheses) The quoted verses come from the New World Translation of the Bible:

Genesis 2:7 says: "And Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul." (life; and man became a living soul) Me: Man become a living soul, not a living man with a soul.

Genesis 17:14 says: "And an uncircumcised male who will not get the flesh of his foreskin circumcised, even that soul must be cut off from his people. He has broken my covenant." ( "that soul shall be cut off from his) ME: Man cannot cut of the soul if it is separate and invisible to us, thus we are souls.

Genesis 42:21 says: "And they began to say one to the other: "Unquestionably we are guilty with regard to our brother, because we saw the distress of his soul when he implored compassion on our part, but we did not listen. That is why this distress has come upon us." ("that we saw the anguish of his soul,) ME: How could anyone see the distress of his soul if it is an invisible part of us?

Exodus 12:15 says: "Seven days YOU are to eat unfermented cakes. Yes, on the first day YOU are to take away sourdough from YOUR houses, because anyone eating what is leavened, from the first day down to the seventh, that soul must be cut off from Israel." (12:15 "that soul shall be cut off from Israel) Me: Another example of the soul being cut off or destroyed

Exodus 31:14 says: "And YOU must keep the sabbath, for it is something holy to YOU. A profaner of it will positively be put to death. In case there is anyone doing work on it, then that soul must be cut off from the midst of his people." (31:14 "that soul shall be cut off from among) Me: Another example of person and soul being one life that can be cut off.

Levititicus 4:2 "Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'In case a soul sins by mistake in any of the things that Jehovah commands should not be done, and he actually does one of them:" ("if a soul shall sin through ignorance) Me: Many believes it is our bodies that sin and not the soul, yet here the soul can sin even unknowingly

Lev. 5:1 says: "Now in case a soul sins in that he has heard public cursing and he is a witness or he has seen it or has come to know of it, if he does not report it, then he must answer for his error. ("And if a soul sin and hear the voice) Me: One cannot see an invisible soul sin, but we can see a person sin, thus the body and soul are the same!

Lev. 5:2 says: "'Or when a soul touches some unclean thing, whether the dead body of an unclean wild beast or the dead body of an unclean domestic animal or the dead body of an unclean swarm-ing creature, although it has been hidden from him, still he is unclean and has become guilty." ("Or if a soul touch any unclean thing,) Me: An invisible inside a person could not physically touch and unclean thing, but the body can. Another example of the soul and body being the same thing.

Lev. 5:4 says: "'Or in case a soul swears to the extent of speaking thoughtlessly with his lips to do evil or to do good as respects anything at all that the man might speak thoughtlessly in a sworn statement, although it had been hidden from him, and yet he himself has come to know it, then he has become guilty as respects one of these things." ( "Or if a soul swear, pronouncing with) Me: Here the soul or person swears or speaks thoughtlessly and he becomes guilty.

Lev. 5:15 says: "In case a soul behaves unfaithfully in that he actually sins by mistake against the holy things of Jehovah, then he must bring as his guilt offering to Jehovah a sound ram from the flock, according to the estimated value in silver shekels, by the shekel of the holy place, as a guilt offering." ("If a soul commit a trespass, and sin) Me: Again the soul and person are spoken of as being the same thing.

Lev. 5:17 says: "And if a soul sins in that he does do one of all the things that Jehovah commands should not be done, although he did not know it, yet he has become guilty and must answer for his error." ("And if a soul sin, and committ any of) Me: If a man or soul sins, he is guilty and must answer for it.

Lev 6:2 says: "In case a soul sins in that he does behave unfaithfully toward Jehovah and does deceive his associate about something in his charge or a deposit in hand or a robbery or he does defraud his associate," ("If a soul sin, and commit a trespass) Me: A soul or person that sins can trespass and behave unfaithfully.

Lev. 7:18 says: "However, if any of the flesh of his communion sacrifice should at all be eaten on the third day, the one presenting it will not be accepted with approval. It will not be put to his account. It will become a foul thing, and the soul that eats some of it will answer for his error." ("the soul that eateth of it shall bear his) Me: We see here that the soul and flesh are the same thing.

Lev. 7:20 says: "And the soul who eats the flesh of the communion sacrifice, which is for Jehovah, while his uncleanness is upon him, that soul must be cut off from his people." ("the soul that eateth of the flesh of the --- "even that soul shall be cut off from) Me: Here we see that a soul can eat flesh, and that makes the soul the same as the body.

Lev 7:21 says: "And in case a soul touches anything unclean, the uncleanness of a man or an unclean beast or any unclean loathsome thing, and actually eats some of the flesh of the communion sacrifice, which is for Jehovah, that soul must be cut off from his people." ("the soul that shall touch any unclean -- "even that soul shall be cut off from his) Me: Again a soul can touch something unclean of man or beast and eat flesh. Thus a man or soul who touched a leper was unclean.

Lev. 7:25 says: "For anyone eating fat from the beast from which he presents it as an offering made by fire to Jehovah, the soul that eats must be cut off from his people." ("the soul that eateth it shall be cut off ) Me: A soul can and eat, another example of soul and body being the same.

Lev 7:27 says: "Any soul who eats any blood, that soul must be cut off from his people.'" ("even that soul shall be cut off from his) Me: The soul eats, thus it is not some invisible thing separate from the body.

Lev. 17:12 says: "That is why I have said to the sons of Israel: "No soul of YOU must eat blood and no alien resident who is residing as an alien in YOUR midst should eat blood." ("No soul of you shall eat blood, neither) Me: We see the sons of Israel are referred to as souls and not having souls that can eat.

Lev. 17:15 says: "As for any soul that eats a body [already] dead or something torn by a wild beast, whether a native or an alien resident, he must in that case wash his garments and bathe in water and be unclean until the evening; and he must be clean." ("every soul that eateth that which died) Me: The soul that eats a dead body (not bled properly) is unclean.

Lev. 19:8 says: " And the one eating it will answer for his error, because he has profaned a holy thing of Jehovah; and that soul must be cut off from his people." ("that soul shall be cut off from among) Me: The person here is also referred to as a soul that can be cut off for his error.

Lev. 20:6 says: "As for the soul who turns himself to the spirit mediums and the professional foretellers of events so as to have immoral intercourse with them, I shall certainly set my face against that soul and cut him off from among his people." ("the soul that turneth after such as --- "even set my face against that soul) Me: Soul can turn to spirit mediums and have immoral intercourse.

Lev. 22:3 says: "Say to them, 'Throughout YOUR generations any man of all YOUR offspring who comes near to the holy things, which the sons of Israel will sanctify to Jehovah, while his uncleanness is upon him, that soul must be cut off from before me. I am Jehovah." ("that soul shall be cut off from my) Me: Again an unclean person or soul can be cut off or killed.

Lev. 22:6 says: "The soul who touches any such must be unclean until the evening and may not eat any of the holy things, but he must bathe his flesh in water." ("The soul which hath touched any such) Me: Another example of a soul or person touching something unclean.

Lev. 22:11 says: "But in case a priest should purchase a soul, as a purchase with his money, he as such may share in eating it. As for slaves born in his house, they as such may share in eating his bread." ("But if the priest buy any soul with his) Me: How could someone buy a soul?

Lev 23:30 says: " As for any soul that will do any sort of work on this very day, I must destroy that soul from among his people." ("whatsoever soul it be that doeth any --- same soul will I destroy) Me: Souls or people can do work and again be destroyed.

Lev 26:15 says: "and if YOU will reject my statutes, and if YOUR souls will abhor my judicial decisions so as not to do all my commandments, to the extent of YOUR violating my covenant," ("or if your soul abhor my judgements,) Me: The people or souls can abhor God's decisions.

Numbers 9:13 says: "But when the man was clean or did not happen to be off on a journey and neglected to prepare the passover sacrifice, that soul must then be cut off from his people, because the offering of Jehovah he did not present at its appointed time. For his sin that man will answer." ("same soul shall be cut off from among) Me: Here again we see the term man and soul used for the same thing.

Num. 11:6 says: "But now our soul is dried away. Our eyes are on nothing at all except the manna." ("But now your soul is dried away: there) Me: Their soul or body was tired of the manna God was providing.

Num. 15:27 says: "And if any soul should sin by mistake, then he must present a female goat in its first year for a sin offering." ("if any soul sin through ignorance,) Me: Here we see that any soul that sins, then he must present a female goat.

Num. 15:30 says: "But the soul that does something deliberately, whether he is a native or an alien resident, he speaking abusively of Jehovah, in that case that soul must be cut off from among his people." ("But the soul that doeth ought --- that soul shall be cut off from among) Me: A soul can speak abusively of God and then merits being cut off or destroyed.

Num. 15:31 says: " Because it is Jehovah's word that he has despised and his commandment that he has broken, that soul should be cut off without fail. His own error is upon him." ("that soul shall utterly be cut off;) Me: A soul or person that despises God and commandment is utterly cut off.

Num. 19:13 says: "Everyone touching a corpse, the soul of whatever man may die, and who will not purify himself, has defiled Jehovah's tabernacle, and that soul must be cut off from Israel. Because the water for cleansing has not been sprinkled upon him, he continues unclean. His uncleanness is still upon him." ("that soul shall be cut off from Israel:) Me: Here the soul is referred as the body of a dead man, and person or soul that touches such a dead body is unclean.

Num. 19:20 says: " "'But the man who may be unclean and who will not purify himself, well, that soul must be cut off from the midst of the congregation, because it is Jehovah's sanctuary that he has defiled. The water for cleansing was not sprinkled upon him. He is unclean." ("that soul shall be cut off among) Me: Again an unclean man is referred to as a soul that must be cut off.

Num. 19:22 says: "And anything the unclean one may touch will be unclean, and the soul who touches it will be unclean until the evening.'" ("soul that toucheth it shall be unclean) Me: Any soul or person who touches something unclean will remain unclean til evening. An invisible soul could not touch something unclean.

Num. 21:5 says: "And the people kept speaking against God and Moses: "Why have YOU brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread and no water, and our soul has come to abhor the contemptible bread." ("and our soul loatheth this light bread) Me: Since a soul as it is viewed by many is spiritual it could not taste and thus become sick of the manna, thus the soul is the body which can taste.

Num. 31:28 says: "And as a tax for Jehovah you must take away from the men of war who went out on the expedition one soul out of five hundred, of humankind and of the herd and of the asses and of the flock. ("one soul of five hundred, both of the) Me: Here we see that the term soul is also used to define animals. One SOUL of every 500 of humankind, the herd and the asses.

Deuteronmy 12:15 says: "Only whenever your soul craves it you may slaughter, and you must eat meat according to the blessing of Jehovah your God that he has given you, inside all your gates. The unclean one and the clean one may eat it, like the gazelle and like the stag." ("whatsoever thy soul lusteth after,) Me: A spiritual soul would not need or crave food. But the human body or soul would.

Deut. 12:20 says: ""When Jehovah your God will widen out your territory, just as he has promised you, and you will be certain to say, 'Let me eat meat,' because your soul craves to eat meat, whenever your soul craves it you may eat meat." ("because thy soul longeth to eat flesh) Me: Again souls crave meat and thus the soul is the phyiscal body.

Deut. 14:26 says: " You must also give the money for whatever your soul may crave in the way of cattle and sheep and goats and wine and intoxicating liquor and anything that your soul may ask of you; and you must eat there before Jehovah your God and rejoice, you and your household." ("for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after --- "or for whatsoever thy soul desireth) Me: Once again we see that the soul craves food and wine.

("Let the enemy persecute my soul) Me: Here soul and life are one and the same, just as Adam became a living soul, once God breathed into his lifeless soul.

Ps. 22:20 says: "Do deliver from the sword my soul, My only one from the very paw of the dog;" ("Deliver my soul from the sword; my) Me: He asked for his soul or body to be delivered from the sword.

Ps. 22:29 says: " All the fat ones of the earth shall eat and will bow down; Before him all those going down to the dust will bend down, And no one will ever preserve his own soul alive." ("and none can keep alive his own soul) Me: Plain enough.

Ps. 30:3 says: " O Jehovah, you have brought up my soul from She'ol itself; You have kept me alive, that I should not go down into the pit." ("brought up my soul from the grave) Me: We know only the body goes into the pit, thus the soul is the body.

Ps. 33:19 says: "To deliver their soul from death itself, And to preserve them alive in famine." ("To deliver their soul from death, and) Me: He wanted his soul or body delivered from death, and kept alive from famine.

Ps. 35:13 says: "As for me, when they became ill, my clothing was sackcloth, With fasting I afflicted my soul, And upon my bosom my own prayer would return." ("I humbled my soul with fasting; and) Me: Fasting would not aflict a spiritual soul, but it would aflict a fleshly soul.

Ps. 35:17 says: " O Jehovah, how long will you keep seeing [it]? Do bring back my soul from their ravages, Even my only one from the maned young lions." ("rescue my soul from ... destructions) Me: Of course a lion could not ravage a spiritual soul, but it could ravage a physical soul.

Ps. 40:14 says: "May those be ashamed and abashed all together Who are seeking my soul to sweep it away. May those turn back and be humiliated who are delighting in my calamity." ( "that seek after my soul do destroy it;) Me: Once again, enemies could not sweep away or do away with a spiritural soul, but of course they cold do away with a fleshly soul or body.

Ps. 54:3 says: "For there are strangers that have risen up against me, And tyrants that do seek my soul. They have not set God in front of them." ("and oppressors seek after my soul) Me: Once again we see that people can seek to kill souls or people.

Ps 56:13 says: "For you have delivered my soul from death-[Have you] not [delivered] my feet from stumbling?-That [I] may walk about before God in the light of those alive." ("hast delivered my soul from death) Me: God saved him, his soul from death at his enemies hands.

Ps. 57:4 says: "My soul is in the middle of lions; I cannot but lie down among devourers, [even] the sons of men, Whose teeth are spears and arrows, And whose tongue is a sharp sword." ( "My soul is among the lions: and I lie even) Me: A spiritual soul would not need to worry about such things. But a human body or soul would.

Ps. 63:9 says: "As for those who keep seeking my soul for [its] ruin, They will come into the lowest parts of the earth." ("those that seek my soul; to destroy) Me: Again the soul is able to be ruined or killed.

Ps. 86:14 says: "O God, the presumptuous ones themselves have risen up against me; And the very assembly of tyrannical ones have looked for my soul, And they have not set you in front of themselves. ( "violent men...sought after my soul; and) Me: Another example of the soul or body being threathened.
