Mikaal and his wife Lyysa were peaceniks from a planet of warmongers. So when their race decided to invade pit-stop-planet Earth, they rebelled. Lyssa was killed, but Mikaal managed to escape--to Earth. Here he defended us against his own people. Eventually he won, and his people ceased and decisted. 

At this point, Mikaal was already into the superhero groove. So, he went the way of all Starman and high-tailed it into Opal. There his lifestyle deteriorated into one of drink, disco, and drug...until, like a blue skinned John Travolta,  he disapeared into obscurity. 

Recently, on the crest of 1970s nostalgia, Mikaal reappeared--In a circus freakshow, of all places. The current Starman, Jack Knight, rescued him from the killer Carnies and brought his to his father, Ted Knight (Starman uno.) Unfortunatly, like Bill Clinton, Mikaal has no memories of his activities during the seventies.  

Slowly, Mikaal is gaining back his powers of flight invulnerability. The crystal embedded into his chest gives him sonic blasts, which come in handy from time to time.
