He never dreamed the Empire would force him to betray an old friend, either. </FONT></P></CENTER> <CENTER><P>Not too many people have any pages that say anything about Lando. I think he deserves more credit than that! Which is why this page was created!</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P><FONT FACE="Boulder">When it comes to <I>The Empire Strikes Back</I> I think Lando got a bad rap. I'm not dissin' the movie but it didn't go into enough detail about when Lando set up Han to get captured. The movie made it seem that Lando was just a two faced bastard looking out for number one. But actually Lando was trying to save the lives of the entire Cloud City from the wrath of the Empire. Little did Lando know that Vader had no intention of keeping his word of leaving Bespin alone. But Lando tried. Afterall he was a Baron Administrator now.</FONT></P></CENTER> <CENTER><P>Lando had won the city, and a great number of other things, through the game of Sabacc. Sabacc is similar to poker but with a few exceptions. First there are seventy two cards, the faces are different, such as the five of staves or the Idiot (worth zero), and the faces of the cards change every so often giving a person a completely different hand. But Sabacc is a game of dramatic reversals, often at the turn of a single card-chip, or even without turning it. </P></CENTER> <CENTER><P>Little is known about the history of the charming and roguish gambler-his past generally a well-guarded secret. It is known that, at least five years prior to the <I>Millenium Falcon's</I> assault on the first Death Star, Lando experienced many of his own adventures in the Corellian freighter.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> He had used the <I>Falcon</I> to store precious life crystals from Rafar 5, gaining the enmity of a supposed sorcerer named Rakus Gepta. During that time period, Lando traveled with a droid named Vuffi Raa, and amassed a sizable fortune from the life crystals, 173,000 credits gained from a sabacc game against a Corporate Sector Authority cop, and a reward of gemstones and precious minerals, so Calrissian was a man of considerable resources.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> Over the years, Lando had befriended a raucous Corellian smuggler, Han Solo, whose partner, a huge Wookie named Chewbacca, made sure that Solo never came to harm. The friends crossed and double-crossed each other over time, but never with any truly disastrous effects. Lando, Han, and Chewie even undertook smuggling missions together. Then one night on Bespin, Lando and Han played a high-stakes game of sabacc, and when it was over, Han was the new owner of the <I>Millenium Falcon</I>.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> Lando took his remaining fortunes and embarked on a galaxywide tour. He again hit success when he returned to Bespin and challenged Baron Administrator Raynor to a game of all-or-nothing sabacc. Raynor was the inept controller of Bespin's Cloud City, a mining and gambling center infamous throughout the galaxy. Lando was inconspicuously aided by a cyborg aide named Lobot, and he won Cloud City, becoming its new Baron Administrator. He kept Lobot as his chief aide.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> In addition to his public duties, Lobot proved equally adept at handling Calrssians's more clandestine operations. Some of those included smuggling, while others involved surreptitiously aiding the Rebellion.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> On the whole Lando was doing very well running Cloud City and its Tibanna gas-mining operation. Profits and production were up, and the constituents were happy. Shady business dealings were common, but violence was kept down by a strong police pressence. Lando was becoming respectable, and so was his city.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> But Lando was soon to get a jolt, brought by the arrival of Imperial forces and the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader. Meeting with Lando, Vader "persuaded" him to help trap Han Solo. If the Baron Administrator helped him, the Imperials would never again bother Bespin or Cloud City. If he didn't help, Lando could say goodbye to his future. The gambler agreed to betray Solo.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> When Vader actually took Han prisoner, his deal with Vader began to go sour. Han was tortured and frozen in a carbonite block, then given to the bounty hunter Boba Fett, to be taken to Jabba the Hutt. Chewie and Leia were to be retained by Vader. Lando outwardly capitulated to the Dark Lord's demands, but inwardly, he was planning his next move.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> After a brief altercation wherein Chewbacca tried to strangle Lando, the administrator convinced the Rebels they could save Han from Boba Fett. They arrived too late, and Lando knew they had to flee the city. He utilized the public address systems to announce that Imperial takeover was imminent, urging Cloud City citizens to evacuate. He then helped Leia and Chewie escape in the <I>Falcon</I>, and even managed to save Luke Skywalker, who was on the verge of plummeting from the floating metropolis.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> Later, when a decision was made for a small strike force to retrieve Han Solo from the Tatooine desert palace of Jabba the Hutt, Lando took the role of a skiff guard named Tamtel Skreej. He surveyed the palace, sending messages and layouts back to the other members of the team. It was easy to spy on Jabba; half of the courtesans in the palace were doing so.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> One by one, the players came to the palace: first Leia, disguised as a bounty hunter named Boushh, brought Jabba a "captive" Chewbacca; and finally Luke Skywalker.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> On a skiff over the Great Pit of Carkoon, Lando revealed himself and helped Han, Chewie, and Luke fight off the guards. Lando was knocked off the skiff and towards the Sarlacc, but Han saved his life. The Alliance heroes blew up Jabba's sail barge and soared away to freedom.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> Back at the New Republic's hedquarters, Lando was given the rank of general, in recognition of his reputation as a soldier of fortune and his role in the Battle of Taanab.Lando volunteered as the leader of a starfleet assault on the second Death Star. Han turned control of the <I>Millenium Falcon</I> over to Lando.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> Lando picked a Sullustan named Nien Nunb as his copilot in the assault against the battle station. General Calrissian was Gold Leader, in charge of the attack, working under Admiral Ackbar. The Rebel fleet engaged the Imperials above the moon of Endor, waiting until the Death Star's shields went down, and they were freed to make their attack runs. Wedge Antilles led the way down the main reactor shaft, followed by Lando and Nien Nunb in the <I>Falcon</I>, and several X-Wings ant TIE Fighters.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> The <I>Falcon</I> and Wedge Anitilles's X-Wing fighter made it to the reactor core. Wedge targeted the power regulator and Lando torpedoed the main reactor, then the two ships had to retrace their perilous flight through the Death Star superstructure, even as it collapsed and exploded around them. With milliseconds to spare, Wedge and the <I>Falcon</I> escaped the shaft into open space. Behind them, the Death Star blew up.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> Lando was a hero to the Alliance, but while the Empire had fallen, their battles continued. So when Lando asked Solo and the Alliance for help in liberating Cloud City from Imperial control, they had to decline. Han and many others were called to help dispel an invasion on Bakura, while Lando meandered his way back to Bespin, trying to figure out a way to get the city back on his own. He hoped the Empire would have left following the death of the Emporer, but it didn't seem likely.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> Surprisingly, the Imperials had left, but only because of a revolt by the Ugnaughts, who hated the Empire. When Lando returned, the mining center appeared deserted, but he found out differently when Lobot attacked him. The cyborg's motivational programming capsule had been damaged by the rebellious Ugnaughts. Fortunatley, Lando managed to remove the damaged capsule and reapir it, for he needed Lobot to help him disarm the bombs that the Ugnaughts planted on the city.</P></CENTER> <CENTER><P> The Imperials hadn't given up yet, thought, and when they returned, they literally threw Lando out. He was asved from freefall by Lobot, who used a set of Life-jets. Teaming with the rebellious Ugnaughts, Lando and Lobot staged a raid on Cloud City, only to find Luke Skywalker and Lieutenant Shira Brei ther, already engaging the Imperial troops. Once the Imperials were defeated, Lando broadcast that Cloud City was no longer under the Empire's control.
