As for the ability to change personalities at a whim, I find that many elves of a non-Xanth variety have that ability. That's what makes them elves, besides the long hair and pointy ears. Do you think the talent of detecting lies could be considered a Magician class talent? And, if so, do you think a person with that talent could become a major character in a future Xanth book? Answer: No, Lie Detecting is not a Magician class talent. The talent itself is to Detect a lie. The person using it can only tell if a lie is being told, not what is the truth from the lie. For example, Simon says, "I am 24 years old." The Lie Decteting Talent can only tell you it is a lie, not what Simon's age is. Now if Simon says, "Beyond that hill is a snarling dragon ready to chew you up," the Lie Deceting talent can only tell you Simon is lying. Unfortately for you, you think there is no danger because your talent told you it is a lie. You make your way over the hill only to be eaten by a waiting Roc. A talent that not only could Detect the lie, but the user also knows what the truth is would be considered a Magician class talent. I've been loking for it because I was only able to buy the second book after getting interested in the series with the first one (I got the first one from a library but they did not have the rest, you know how frustrating that is!?) Just note that the final and last Mode novel, DoOon Mode, will be realeased sometime in April.
