The Slayer's Watchers are alike in some way and a lot different in others, here you can find out all about the both of them.

THE MOVIE:
In the Buffy Movie, Merrick was Buffy's watcher. He was sent to her when the last slayer died, but he didn't know for certain that it was her until he found her in the school's gym doing tumbles and cartwheels and such. He told her some about what he wanted to talk to her about-but said it would be best just to show her. So reluctantly she went with him to the graveyard. There she killed two vamps and learned that she was the chosen one, the slayer. She so did not want the job at first. I mean, clothes, her friends, cheerleading, boys and herself were way more important than saving the world from vampires. But the ever devoted Merrick talked her into the whole thing and began to train her to kill the vamps. When Buffy had her first show-down with Lothos, the head vamp, Merrick sadly died. In dieing though he told her that doing everything wrong, the way she was doing it, was doing it right. Hell, it was working so far hunh? So his last words were what kept Buffy going and on to kill Lothos and his fellow vamps. Hell of a guy right?=)

THE SERIES:
In the TV series, Rupert Giles is Buffy's Watcher. I am not sure how they get to know each other or anything, because I haven't been watching the series since the begining-but Giles is a lot like Merrick in some ways, in that he is totally into his job. He cares for the slayer and is really up-tight!=) Especially recently Giles has shown his affections for Buffy. No, dont spazz out or anything, its a fatherly type thing. But Giles is a lot more loose than Merrick, he was actually dating a fellow teacher at one point, and Giles is a lot more 90's than Merrick was, but that just may be because Merrick was the Watcher in 1992! Anyways, I prefer Giles mostly because of his sexy accent and he is better looking. Yes I said better looking! Hey old people can be hot too! Look at Sean Connery, Kevin Costner and uhhhh...I am sure there are more=)

Similarites Between the Watchers:
They are both very devoted to their job, both hate vampires=), the both get along with Buffy the best they can considering the big age difference and maturity difference, and both teach the slayer her skills.

Differences Between the Watchers:
Giles is more caring than Merrick seems to be in the movie, One is dead while the other is still alive, and Giles like Buffy's friends but Merrick doesn't seem to care for Buffy's friends in the movie all that much.
