Ok, kiddies...here is some stuff that you may,
or may have not known
about SCREAM!
Either way, its all pretty
interesting, so be sure to read the whole page!
•The opening sequence is 12 minutes, 50 seconds long (including the Dimension logo). This is notable because Drew Barrymore, who dies at the end of the sequence, was given second billing below Courtney Cox in the pre-release publicity. After the film was released, the stars names were given in alphabetical order. In the film itself, the cast is listed alphabetically, with Drew Barrymore at the end, with an "and" before her name, to distinguish her.
•Casey has to answer questions about Halloween and Friday the
13th, and discusses A Nightmare On Elm Street.
•When Casey answers a question that the killer asks, she answers just like Rachel in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers: ``It's Michael...Michael Myers!'' in the same tone of voice.
•When Casey is answering the Friday the 13th question, she says "Jason" 5 times, and the killer says it twice.
•The killer calls Casey 6 times before she dies.
•There wasn't really a voice changer box. The phone voice was provided by an actor over a real phone to Neve Campbell and Drew Barrymore. To keep tension during the opening scene with Drew, she didn't meet the actor until AFTER the shoot.
•In the opening with Drew, she was able to keep crying and screaming and looking
terrified after SEVERAL takes thanks to Wes Craven. Drew is a huge animal
lover and a few days before she read on this cat being lit intentionally on fire by a human.
Wes kept reminding her of that. Kinda of cruel but she definitely looks like she is scared.
•Casey's mother screams her name 6 times while looking through the house for her.
•Casey hanging from the tree looks like the opening of Suspiria (1977).
•The body of Casey hanging from the tree, on closer inspection, is obviously a dummy, and NOT Drew Barrymore harnessed up. (This has been confirmed by Fangoria)
•Neve's secret trick for pre-scary-scene psych up: jumping up and down.
•Linda Blair, who played Regan in the first two Exorcist films, has a
cameo as a news reporter ("People have a right to know!").
And jus in case you haven't seen it or don't remember who Regan is in the Excorist films-she is the one who gets possesed and spits out the green stuff=)
•Stu (Matthew Lillard) was once Casey's (Drew Barrymore) boyfriend, but is dating Tatum (Rose McGowan) as the film begins.
•The sheriff is played by Joseph Whipp, the same actor who played a police officer in A Nightmare On Elm Street. He is the one giving Nancy's dad the report on what happened at Tina's house and also the one who later in the movie watches Nancy's house for anything suspisious.
•The song playing in the scene when Billy is in Sidney's bed-room late at night is "Don't Fear the Reaper". Kind of ironic isn't it?
•When Sidney is going into her house, the killer comes out of the closet the same way Michael Myers comes out of the closet after Bob in Halloween.
•During the scene in the school bathroom when Sidney is attacked, you see the killer's pants. In the final cut, he is wearing black pants. In some of the trailers, the killer clearly has blue jeans on. In all probability, they were both shot at the same time, and the final decision was made in the editing room. The jeans most likely meant that the bathroom attack was only a prank, and the black pants identified the person as the real killer.
•The janitor of the school is played by Wes Craven, director of SCREAM. He wears the tattered red and green striped sweater and hat
of Freddy Kruger, the villain in his A Nightmare On Elm Street.
•In the scene where Dewey is talking to the sheriff, they have Dewey lick his ice cream every time the sheriff takes a drag off his cigarette. They do it a total of 5 times.
•A poster for the Jamie Leigh Curtis (who SCREAM names the "Scream Queen") film, Mother's Boys, is shown prominently at the video store. Another film of hers, Trading Places, is mentioned.
•They rented 5 horror movies for Stu's party. They 5 were Halloween, Terror Train, Hellraiser, Evil Dead and Prom Night. They only one that got watched was Halloween though.
•When Randy is watching Halloween, he says, "Jamie, look behind
you!" This is interesting because the killer really was behind him as he spoke to the
TV screen, and his real name is Jamie.
•The sequence when Billy hits Stu with the phone during the finale was unplanned; the fake blood was too slippery and caused the phone to slip. It worked in so well they decided to keep filming and keep the action and ensuing line.
•"I always had a thing for ya Sid!" was not actually in the script! It was an improv added at the last moment!
•The killer makes one final appearance for about four or five frames just before the credits roll. There is a white flash, and the killer leers toward the screen.
•During the ending credits, the text "No Thanks Whatsoever To : The Santa Rosa City School District Governing Board" appears. This refers to the original site that was supposed to be used for Woodsboro High, until the school board later deemed the film too violent and expletive for their tastes. A community center ended up being the final location.
•"Scary Movie", the original title of SCREAM, is mentioned 5 times.
•Stu's last name is Macher (pronounced Mah-KERR). Stu Macher. Stu-macher. Schu- macher. As in Joel Schumacher.
•2 lines almost NEVER made it to the movie. Where Tatum talks about, "If you pause it just right, you can see his penis!" reffering to Tom Cruise in All the Right Moves and "Well, you can only hear that Richard Gere gerbil story so many times before you got to start to believe it."
•14 scary movies were mentioned throughout SCREAM--
they were:
The Howling mentioned by Randy
Terror Train mentioned first by Sidney
Halloween mentioned several times
Friday the 13th mentioned several times
Carrie mentioned by Billy
Exorcist mentioned by Billy
Psycho mentioned by Billy
Evil Dead mentioned by Randy
Hellraiser mentioned by Randy
CandyMan mentioned by Stu
Prom Night mentioned by Randy
Texas Chainsaw Massacre mentioned by Randy
Nightmare on Elm St. mentioned several times
Silence of the Lambs mentioned by Billy
The Town that Dreaded Sundown mentioned by Sidney
•David Arquette is the younger brother of Patricia Arquette who was the star of Nightmare on Elm St. 3: Dream Warriors.
•Kane Hodder (aka Jason Vorhees in many of the Friday the 13th movies) was set to be Kenny aka Gale's Cameraman's stuntman-but Earl Brown was too chubby and Kane with his big ol' muscles really wouldn't pass for Kenny.
•Neve Campbell also stared in The Craft with Skeet Ulrich
•Before SCREAM Matt Lilliard made a movie called Hackers in which he played a character named CerealKiller, which is ironic considering in SCREAM he played an actual serial killer. (A picture of him from that flick can be seen to the right)
•Drew Barrymore, Matt Lilliard and Leiv Schreiber were all in Mad Love together.
•Durring and after the making of SCREAM Courtney Cox and David Arquette had a thing going.
•For a period in 1998, Matt Lilliard and Neve Campbell were a hot item. Woo-hoo! Go Stu!
•The actress who plays the bitchy cheerleader (Leonora Scelfo) is actually Skeet Ulrich's real-life girlfriend (or at least was at the time of shooting).
•Matt Lilliard was in a movie called 'Serial Mom' in which he played a character obssesed with horror movies-in SCREAM, Matt also plays a character obssesed with horror films.
