SCREAM 3
P A R T - T W O

MARTIN: OK, thanks Principal. We've had word from the weather bureau that a first class storm is bearing down upon us. Unless the winds change it's going to pass over Cedar Corners. Therefore, we are issuing a curfew effective immediately. Anybody found outside between the hours of six PM and six AM will be arrested and taken to the police station.

The crowd groans.

MARTIN: This is for your own safety. If the storm hits there's going to be lot of structural damage, you could get hurt. Do not think we will be lenient on you if you are found outside. You will be breaking the law and you will be arrested. Also, the curfew is in effect because of the possibility of other crimes happening. We are tracking the killer and believe he has fled the town and probably the state. You have nothing to worry about. The FBI have conducted full searches of the area of the town and are quite certain that no major threat remains. However, to be sure, this curfew will stand until further notice. That's all I really have to say. If you have conditions that mean you will be out between those hours, talk to me afterwards and if we think your business is legitimate, we will give you a pass to allow you outside.

JESS: What is this? Nazi Germany?

Martin sits down.

WHITLER: There will also be a prayer meeting this afternoon. The funerals take place at different times next week and although anybody is welcome to go and show their support.....do not go to cause trouble. This is a very emotional week. We live in dangerous times everyone, let's all be considerate........and careful.

13. EXT STREET DAY

Cameron's van pulls up beside the kerb. Ellen gets out and puts her bag on the floor.

CAMERON: Well, I'm heading to my friend's place but, you wanna meet up later?

ELLEN: Sure why not?

CAMERON: You gonna be OK?

ELLEN: Why wouldn't I be?

CAMERON: Just take care.

ELLEN: You too.

Cameron drives away.

14. INT GUESTHOUSE

Ellen arrives at the desk and rings a small bell. An old seventy year old man comes out from the back. He hobbles to the desk.

ELLEN: Hi.

MAN: Good morning, what can I do you for?

ELLEN: I think I've got a reservation, Ellen Baker?

MAN: Uhm.......here it is, how long you staying for?

ELLEN: Oh, I'm not sure it depends how long things go on for.

MAN: Certainly not a time to be vacationing here. You know about the storm?

ELLEN: Yeah, but I've got work to do.

MAN: Sign here.

He passes the book to her.

MAN: What kind of work do you do?

ELLEN: I'm a freelance reporter, I'm investigating the murders.

The man snatches the pen back.

MAN: Now look here, you. We don't need your kind coming round here digging up problems for the rest of us. Why don't you just leave us alone!

A younger woman comes out from the back.

WOMAN: Dad, calm down. Stop harassing the poor lady.

The man walks out to the back.

MAN: Bunch 'o Goddamned vultures.

WOMAN: Don't mind him. (pause) The uh....one of the girl's Cecile, I mean Sass, she hated it when you called her Cecile, uhm, she used to work here on weekends, he's pretty upset about the whole deal.

ELLEN: Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't know.

WOMAN: That's not your fault. I'm Brenda. Brenda Luellen.

ELLEN: Ellen Baker, pleased to meet you. If you wouldn't mind I'd be grateful if you answered some questions. You don't have to, I'm not here to cause trouble.

BRENDA: I can tell you're not like the others. They don't take time for courtesy no more, they just come straight out with it.

ELLEN: So who was it you knew? Cecile.....

BRENDA: Cecile Johlson. She went to the high school.

ELLEN: What were they doing that night?

BRENDA: They were having a slumber party. They were a tight group, had get-togethers every week almost. She'd tell me what they were planning to do before she went. They'd rented some videos and got some food.

ELLEN: Uh-huh. Who do you think killed them?

BRENDA: Well, I'm hoping they're not dead. Even though the bodies are gone, it's possible they might be alive. That probably sounds silly to you.

ELLEN: No, I hope they're alive, I really do. Like you said, nobody knows for sure.

15 A EXT SCHOOL GROUNDS AFTERNOON

A crowd of people have gathered outside the school near a grass lawn where a man in stood facing a crowd of students. Karen stands near the back, sat on a stone wall watching

MAN: We pray for their safe return.....we pray for their families in this awful time of grief and fear.

Karen turns her head slightly. Standing in the parking lot, is a figure dressed in black with the white scream mask on. Karen squints and looks again. The figure stares back. She gets up and walks over to him. They are stood against a large hedge, slightly obscured from everyone.

KAREN: Excuse me. What do you think you're doing?

The figure stares back.

KAREN: I guess this is pretty funny for you huh?

No response.

KAREN: You make me fucking sick.

Karen turns to go, the figure reaches out with his hand to get her as Jess appears. His hand snaps back.

JESS: Karen, what are you.......oh, nice costume stud. Guess dressing up like a killer gives you a hard on does it?

Jess and Karen walk off.

15B . INT SCHOOL BUS DAY ABOUT 12 NOON

The bus driver heads down a road on his route, dropping kids off. The radio plays on the dashboard.

RADIO: .....already winds of 40 to 50 mile per hour have been reported. At this time, authorities expect the gales to get worse along with he possibility of flooding. Anyone who feels they would not be safe in their own home should proceed to Cedar General hospital where temporary relief shelter has been set up.....

Karen and Jess are sat on the bus as it travels through the town dropping off kids.

JESS: All right, no school for aweek!

KAREN: It's still bad.

JESS: Let it go, Karen. You saw them once or twice a week maybe, you never said more than "hey" when you did. I don't know why you're feeling like this.

KAREN: Then stop judging me.

JESS: Jeez. Stop being so uptight. I didn't kill them.

Karen looks at her.

JESS: Well, I didn't! Probably that guy in the mask.

KAREN: He's stupid but he's not that stupid.

Karen looks out of the window. Other kids are laughing and talking.

JESS: Are you gonna go to the hospital?

KAREN: What for?

JESS: For the storm? Will you be OK in your house?

KAREN: Yeah, it'll be fine. You?

JESS: I guess me and my Mom will.

KAREN: You could probably stay with us.

JESS: Don't bother.

KAREN: No really, it'll be OK. My mom's a bit freakedout anyway. Dad's trying his best to calm her down.

JESS: Well, your house is pretty tough. I don't see why?

KAREN: She's worried about me. She said she's never gonna let me go out to a party or slumber party ever again.

JESS: I don't blame her.

KAREN: Of course not. I'd be the same.

JESS: Well, I'll talk to my Mom about it anyway.

The bus pulls up to the kerb. Jess gets up.

JESS: So I'll call you about four, then we'll come over?

KAREN: Sure.

Jess smiles and then heads to the door. Dylan slips into her place.

DYLAN: Hey there sexy.

KAREN: Dylan, don't start.

DYLAN: Come on we were great together!

KAREN: That was nine months ago and you screwed another girl.

DYLAN: And I apologized, remember? The big banner pulled by the plane across the sky, it read "

KAREN: It read "Karen forgive me, please" and it was totally corny. I got the piss taken out of me for weeks afterwards.

DYLAN: It's the thought that counts.

KAREN: Bullshit. Did you think about sleeping with that other girl?

DYLAN: It was really more of an impulse thing.

KAREN: Yeah.......I've heard how those can affect people's emotions. Hey! I've got an impulse, why don't you get lost?

Dylan smiles as the bus stops. Karen gets up.

DYLAN: I can't get lost, I know my way around here.

KAREN: Well go someplace where you can get lost then.

The people on the bus applaud as Karen gets off. Dylan holds up his arms, 'she got me.' Dylan chases off after her.

16. EXT STREET

Karen walks along a path up towards her house. It is a big white building set up on a slight hill, obscured by trees on some places.

Dylan catches up to her.

KAREN: What are you doing here? Your house is two miles that way?

DYLAN: I just thought I'd make sure you got home all right.

KAREN: I am home you dufus. That's it there.

DYLAN: Yes, I have been there remember?

Karen stands looking at the house as a wind blows leaves across the view. She brushes her hair back behind her ears.

DYLAN: What's wrong? You look spooked.

KAREN: (not really listening) Huh?

DYLAN: Not afraid of your own house are you?

KAREN: Go home Dylan.

A woman appears on the porch at the house. She waves to Karen. It is Karen's Mom. She is an attractive forty year old. She looks like Karen. Her name is ELEANOR.

ELEANOR: Dylan? What are you doing here?

DYLAN: Just making sure Karen got home all right.

Eleanor looks at them and then goes back in the house.

DYLAN: She still hates me, huh?

KAREN: Yu-huh. She can't understand why I still talk to you.

DYLAN: And why do you?

KAREN: Because you're always in my face.

Karen walks up the path to her house.

DYLAN: Yeah but it's a nice face, right?

KAREN; Good night, Dylan.

Dylan chuckles and then heads along the path.

17. INT GREEN HOUSE DAY

Karen enters the house and closes the door. She slumps her back-pack down and enters the kitchen. The house is very, very nice. All the rooms run into each other, there are very few doors, just wide spaces.

In their kitchen, Eleanor is making a sandwich. Karen sits on a stool at the counter.

Outside, wind blows leaves around, the rustling can be heard in the bushes.

ELEANOR: I heard about school being suspended. I think it's the right thing to do.

KAREN: We're on a curfew as well.

ELEANOR: Yes, and you'd better not break it. If we're gonna front this storm out we're gonna do it together.

KAREN: Which reminds me......would it be OK for Jess and her Mom to stay over with us? They're all by themselves and if they don't they're gonna have to stay at the hospital.

ELEANOR: Oh. Uhm.....sure it'd be OK. I guess Mary's still upset since the divorce.

KAREN: Yeah, kinda.

Karen sits with her head resting on her propped up arm. She looks fed up.

ELEANOR: Are you OK?

KAREN: I guess.

Eleanor hugs Karen.

ELEANOR: Oh, I know, it's awful.

KAREN: I didn't even know them Mom. Why am I so upset?

ELEANOR: Because it'sfrightening to think such a thing could happen. Just because you don't know somebody doesn't mean you don't care.

KAREN: The worst thing was, there was this guy at school today. He was dressed up like the cops think the killer was.

ELEANOR: Jesus. I don't understand kids today. Why would someone do something like that?

KAREN: I don't know. It affects people in different ways I guess.

Eleanor nods, rubs Karen's shoulder and leaves the kitchen. Karen goes to the fridge as the phone rings.

Eleanor shouts from upstairs.

ELEANOR: Could you get that? I'm gonna take a bath.

Karen picks up the phone in the kitchen.

KAREN: Hello?

A VOICE appears. It is very deep, like the sound you get when you decrease the speed on a record player. It kinda sounds like an old woman talking very deep and slow.

VOICE: Is this Karen?

KAREN: Yes.

VOICE: Karen Green?

KAREN: Yes. Who is this?

VOICE: I've been watching you.

KAREN: Excuse me?

VOICE: I've been watching you and Dylan. You looked cosy together.

KAREN: What's it got to do with you?

VOICE: Dylan screws a lot of people huh?

KAREN: I guess he does. Who is this? Helen, Pamela? Come on.

VOICE: (chuckle) You shouldn't have left Dylan to walk home alone.

Karen stops breathing as she holds the phone.

KAREN: Why?

VOICE: A guy can only go so far before he gets what's coming to him.

KAREN: Is this Brad? He didn't do anything with Tiff, it's just a rumour.

The phone goes dead. Karen stands listening.

KAREN: Hello?

She puts the phone down and then looks out of the window.

KAREN: Oh m'God, Dylan.

Karen runs out of the kitchen, grabbing her coat and out of the front door.

18. EXT ROAD AFTERNOON

Dylan is trudging along a pathway on his way home. He has a cigarette hanging from his mouth and his stereo earphones on full blast. The fog is back and is cloaking the whole area. We can only see about fifteen feet. Dylan doesn't seem too bothered.

He hums a tune as he walks. Behind him we see a figure dressed in black with the "Scream" mask on. The figure walks quietly behind.

19. EXT ROAD

Karen is running for her life up the road after Dylan, she trips occasionally as she tries to find her way through the fog.

KAREN: Dylan!!

20. EXT ROAD

Dylan comes to the top of a sloping hill, he rubs his forehead as the figure behind steps closer.

We see on close up that the figure is holding a steak knife. The figure walks faster, as if moving in for the kill.

Dylan doesn't notice. The figure slips the knife underneath the earphone wire leading to the Walkman. A quick flick cuts it in half. Dylan stops.

DYLAN: Hey what the hell.....

He turns to see the figure, the mask, closer this time looks just like Munch's "The Scream" painting. Dylan looks at it for a few seconds as the killer slams the knife into his stomach. Dylan coughs up blood. The killer grabs his jacket and yanks him across the path, throwing him directly into an outcropping piece of pointy wooden fencing that has bent over. Dylan slams into it, the fencing going straight into him.

21. In the background, Karen parts the fog and sees what's going on.

KAREN: Dylan!!

The killer turns to see her.

Karen stands sobbing as the killer watches her. Karen starts understanding what the hell is going on. In a flash she turns and bolts the way she came, immediately, just a split second later, the killer gives chase.

Karen screams as she runs, not sure where she's going. The killer is gaining, the bloody knife held out. Suddenly, the killer is on her. Just a few more inches and he'll be able to grab her. Karen falls over, the killer doesn't see this coming and trips over her body. He tumbles down across the road as Karen gets up and runs back towards Dylan.

The killer stands and looks after her before running up a side lane into the forest.

Karen arrives at Dylan's body. She stands a few feet from him as he hangs limply on the fence outcropping. She sobs deeply as she stretches her arm out and touches his face. His body falls forward, Karen screams and jumps back, falling onto her back.

Cameron's van arrives, driving slowly because of the fog. He slams on the brakes. He jumps out.

CAMERON: What the hell?

He sees Dylan's body. Karen is lying on the ground in tears.

Cameron reaches into the van and picks up a mobile phone.

CAMERON: Get me the police.

22. INT POLICE STATION AFTERNOON

A Styrofoam cup of black coffee enters the frame as it is put onto a table.

We pan up to see Karen's hands resting handcuffed together on the table.

Chief Radmacher sits opposite her. Outside we see Eleanor and another man, Karen's father JON. Down the hall is Ellen and Cameron. Martin sits in the room with Chief Radmacher.

TOM: Coffee for you.

Karen doesn't speak.

TOM: Karen...you need to tell us what happened. Right now you're under arrest because you're not talking, tell us what happened. Whatever it is, we can work something out.

Karen sits there.

TOM: Karen, this is very serious, at the moment you're the only one who can give us any information. Don't you understand? You can help us put this guy away. I know you didn't do it, but unless you speak, those FBI guys out there in the hall are gonna charge you for five accounts of first degree murder.

Karen raises her eyes for the first time.

KAREN: It was a man in a mask.

Tom looks at Martin.

TOM: Go on. Did you know who it was?

Karen shakes her head.

KAREN: He called me just before. I couldn't tell who he was...the voice was messed up. He started talking about Dylan getting what as coming to him.

TOM: Did you see his face at any time?

KAREN: No.

TOM: What happened?

KAREN: I saw him kill Dylan. Threw him onto that fence than he chased after me.

TOM: So why didn't he get you too?

KAREN: I don't know, that's when the van showed up.

23. EXT CORRIDOR

Tom stands with Martin in an adjoining office as Karen sits with her Mom and Dad in the interview room.

MARTIN: What do you think?

TOM: I don't know. From what she's saying I think we're looking for a guy.

MARTIN: I checked something out. For awhile, Dylan was seeing Rachel Chambers, one of the girls who was killed? And a few years before that, he was going out with Jill Tyler, one of the others who was killed.

TOM: Jesus, how many people did this kid go with?

MARTIN: It's possible that somebody killed him because of that exact reason. They killed Jill and the other girl and then him. He maybe even intended to kill Karen too.

TOM: But why would he kill those two other girls?

MARTIN: I don't know.

TOM: Jesus, we've still got a killer out there. Some guy runningaround wearing black and a mask. Do we sell those masks anywhere?

MARTIN: I don't think so.

Ellen appears in the doorway.

ELLEN: Excuse me, can I speak to you for a second?

MARTIN: Uhm, not yet, we'd like to talk to you as well, just wait in the hall please, somebody'll be along to see you.

Ellen leaves.

TOM: She that reporter?

MARTIN: Uh-huh. She said that these murders are like ones that took place about eight or nine years ago in a town called Woodsboro.

TOM: Is that a fact?

MARTIN: Yeah. I'm getting some information on it over the wire.

TOM: What about those FBIguys?

MARTIN: They're pulling out.

TOM: Why?

MARTIN: A bomb exploded in Chicago, killed thirty people. They have to go out there but they left us some help.

TOM: Some help?

MARTIN: Yeah, about twenty guys and some cars.

TOM: All right. I want patrols around the hour all over, understand?

Martin nods as Tom lifts up a clipboard.

TOM: Now these people are the only ones authorised to be out after curfew. I don't want anybody else around, now you don't have to arrest everyone, just make sure the street's are clean.

MARTIN: No problem.

TOM: Oh and if it gets too rough, I'll call you back. If we're not outside I doubt anybody else is.

25. INT CORRIDOR

Cameron is sat on a sofa in the corridor of the police station. Ellen arrives and hands him a cup of coffee.

ELLEN: Are you OK?

CAMERON: (thinks about it) Uhm.....no. It wasn't supposed to happen this way.

ELLEN: What?

CAMERON: I was just supposed to come to town, write my report and go home.

ELLEN: Hey, it's all right-

CAMERON: Yeah but that kid was killed today, I saw it, I was there. I thought it was maybe just a one off, but now........I'm starting to believe your story about the other ones......

Ellen looks at him, worrying about him.

CAMERON: Even that girl said, he was wearing a mask, like the one the other killers used to wear. Why would someone do this? And why here?

ELLEN: He can't be back. Those killers are dead. It's just some sick fuck. Some country yahoo who's blown a circuit.

CAMERON: People are not supposed to die like this, Ellen.

The chief stands in front of them.

TOM: Would you two come in here please?

They follow him into a room and sit down.

TOM: Well, you've been in town less than a day and already you're in over your heads.

CAMERON: We're not in anything.

TOM: I don't mean it like that. What were you driving along that way for?

CAMERON: I was going to the quarry to make sure some radar equipment I planted earlier was recording.

TOM: Radar equipment?

CAMERON: Yes. When the storm passes over, it'll measure wind speeds and rainfall.

TOM: Uh-huh. And was it?

CAMERON:I don't know. I didn't get there remember?

TOM: And where were you at the time?

Ellen looks at him.

ELLEN: Cameron had just left me about a half hour earlier. We ate lunch and he said he had to go check the equipment. So, he went and I stayed at the hotel.

TOM: Uh-huh. And what time were you expecting him back?

ELLEN: I don't know. Cameron decided to move into the guest house. The friend he was staying with has been moved to the temporary shelter at the hospital for the storm.

CAMERON: Chief, you could ask me these questions, you know.

TOM: Who do you think did it? Karen?

CAMERON: I doubt it.

TOM: Why?

CAMERON: She was lying in a heap when I got there. She was crying her eyes out. I mean, I don't know her but she didn't exactly come across as a proffesional killer

TOM: Proffesional killer?

CAMERON: You know what I mean.

TOM: OK then, that about wraps it up. You two stay in town though, don't leave. We'll need to talk to you again. And don't go out after the curfew.

26. INT GREEN HOUSE NIGHT

Karen is sat in the living room, curled up on the couch holding a cushion close to her chest. In the background, Eleanor and Jon are seen talking to Jess and her Mom Kate. We hear their voices although Karen looks very spaced out.

KATE: They arrested her?

ELEANOR: They thought she did it.

KATE: This is insane. Is she all right?

JON:We don't know. She hasn't said much.

Jess slips away from them and goes into the living room.

ELEANOR: Well, here, let's take this case up to your room.

KATE: Look, maybe we should go, this seems really awful of me at this time.

JON: No, stay. Karen's gonna need someone like Jess around and you're always welcome here. We've got a cop coming over later he's gonna stick around just in case.

Karen stares at the roaring fire as outside it gets very dark. We see tree branches swaying around, ready to snap.

Jess sits next to Karen.

JESS: Hey.

KAREN: Hi.

JESS: Karen, I don't know what to say.......

KAREN: That's all right. There isn't much to say. Dylan's dead.

JESS: I'm so sorry, I know that he was your friend, he didn't deserve this.

KAREN: I'm gonna go in the shower.

Karen goes to the stairs. At the bottom she turns to Jess.

KAREN: Jess, I'm not blowing you off. I really like you and I'm glad you're here. I just need some time for myself you know?

JESS: Hey, no problem, I'll be here.

Karen smiles and goes up the stairs.

27. INT MOVING VAN

Cameron and Ellen are driving along a road into town. Nobody is speaking.

ELLEN: You know, it's funny.

CAMEMON: What is?

ELLEN: I don't even know you but I feel like you're the only one I can trust.

Cameron looks at her.

ELLEN: I'm sorry you had to see what you did today.

CAMERON: I'm trying not to think about it.

Ellen looks at her watch. It reads four o'clock.

She looks out of the window and sees a stone building.

ELLEN: Is that a library?

CAMERON: Yeah.

ELLEN: Is there a computer? On the internet?

CAMERON: I think so.

ELLEN: Is it close to the hotel?

CAMERON: Yeah, it's about half a mile down the road.

ELLEN: Would you drop me off? I want to contact my mom.

CAMERON: OK, but can't you use a phone like a normal person? You could use my lap top.

ELLEN: No. If I use the phone, she'll have me talking for hours. If I just send her an E-mail it won't take so long.

Cameron pulls to the side of the road. Ellen gets out.

CAMERON: Don't be out after six.

ELLEN: No problem.

Cameron drives away.

28. INT LIBRARY

Surprisingly the place is pretty busy. Ellen moves towards an area where some computers are set up. She sits down at one and begins typing something.

On the screen we see her accessing her saved files at her home. She clicks on one labelled "Ellen's Stuff". A load of documents are shown. She clicks on one labelled "Wood-Rep". It loads up a newspaper report about Casey Becker's killing. She reads a few words and then clicks another bringing up a report about the killing at the movie theatre where "Stab" was playing.

She reads it and then reaches down to her handbag. She removes a green folder and opens it. Inside, she removes a colour photo of a crowd of people outside the movie theatre. Then she finds another of a fan, dressed in black and wearing the Scream mask. She stares at it and then gets up.

CUT TO:
29 INT KAREN'S HOUSE

She is wearing a towel around her after her shower. She stands in her bedroom looking at the bookshelf. She approaches it carefully and reaches up, bringing down a book called "Art of Past and Present."

CUT TO:
30. INT LIBRARY

Ellen sits back down at her desk, flicking through the pages of a thick book called

"Masterpieces." She thumbs through the pages.

CUT TO:
31. INT KAREN'S HOUSE SAME TIME

Karen sits on the bed with her book, flicking through the pages. She stops at one and we see what she's looking at, a portrait. We recognize it immediately as Edvard Munch's "The Scream". The face of the main figure matches exactly the mask that the killer was wearing at Jill's house and on the road earlier that day. Karen gasps as she sees it.

32. A quick flash of that time enters her mind. We see the killer chasing after her, the mask visible.

CUT TO:
33. INT LIBRARY

Ellen finds the page she wants. Edvard Munch's "The Scream" looks back at her. She stares at it for a few seconds before reaching over and getting the photograph of the fan outside the movie theatre, She places them side by side and compares them. The resemblance is quite uncanny.

She closes her eyes and sighs, closing the books. We see her look up and her eyes focus, then they go wide. We see what she sees, a figure walking along through an aisle, about nineteen years old. A guy with longish black hair. Ellen smiles and shakes her day-dreams out of her head, putting the photograph away.

34. INT POLICE STATION EVENING

Tom is sat at his desk reading a file. Suddenly, a rubber mask, just like the one the killer was wearing flops onto the desk, We pan up to see Martin as he flicks it down.

Tom looks at it.

TOM: Is this the mask?!

MARTIN: Yup.

TOM: Where did you find it?

MARTIN: At a toy store. The guy said he sold one recently. He's gonna check his accounts to see if he can match the price to a date and hopefully a name of any others.

TOM: Well who was the person?

MARTIN: Jill Tyler.

TOM: The dead Jill Tyler?

MARTIN: Yeah. About nine years ago, her father worked all over the country, he did a load of reports on the killings is Woodsboro and collected a load of stuff to do with it. I think she bought the mask to add to his collection.

TOM: Where is the father now.

MARTIN: Still in Chicago.

TOM: Jesus, so we're assuming that the killer took a mask like this one from the Tyler house and is using it?

MARTIN: Possibly.

Tom looks at the mask.

TOM: Sure is scary.

He puts it on.

TOM: Do I look scary?

MARTIN: You always look scary.

Tom takes it off.

MARTIN: Should I go over to the Green's house? Check to see if it's the right one?

TOM: No. It's too early. Probably scare her half to death. Just leave it here.

MARTIN: But we may not see her again until after the storm is over.

TOM: We're gonna have to take that chance.

35. INT GUESTHOUSE LOBBY EVENING

Ellen is sat with Cameron on a sofa in the lobby. They are the only ones there at the moment. Outside the wind is howling. Ellen places the photo of the mask-wearing fan on the table alongside a photocopy of the scream portrait.

ELLEN: This is the mask the killer wore back in Woodsboro and at the university. And this is Edvard Munch's "The Scream."

CAMERON: That girl said the killer wore that one. (pointing to the portrait)

ELLEN: That's right. But the difference is only very slight.

CAMERON: What does that prove?

ELLEN: It proves there's a connection between what's going on here and what happened before. These masks were taken off the market so the killer is using the next best thing.

CAMERON: It could be a coincidence.

ELLEN: Doubtful. I'd bet my next paycheck that there's a link between the killingsin Woodsboro, at the university and here.

CAMERON: They happened 8 years ago.

ELLEN: That doesn't matter. After all, the killings are happening, it's real. I just wish I knew the reason.

CAMERON: Well I'd bet you my first paycheck, although I don't actually get pay checks it sort of goes into my account.....that this is just some guy killing off people because they all slept with different people. It's called teen angst.

ELLEN: What it's called is murder. And it's turning out to be a massacre.
