Weekly Area 51 Poll

The question on the Weekly Area 51 Poll has changed.

Lack of Updates

As you may have noticed, there has not been much going on in the Area 51 world that is breaking news. Since tomorrow is Labor Day, I will have much more time to work on more pages for the Area 51 Headquarters and I will be able to do more "clean up" work on the site. Also, I have eliminated the entire Structures section of the site. The reason being is that none of the photos will show up on Netscape so I will just do the entire section over again.

Monday September 6, 1999 Labor Day
Picture of the Day [2:39]

I am attempting to try something new. In order for this site to be updated daily, I am going to add the Area 51 picture of the day. Today's picture is a personal favorite of me being "buzzed" by a Cammo Dude near the restricted area. Everyday I will try my best to add a new photo, but I cannot promise that I will. If you have an Area 51 photo that you think is worthy for the picture of the day, then please send it to me via e-mail.

Old News [2:02pm]

The Old News page has changed in the page design. I have made it easier for visitors to read old updates.

New SETI[10:03]
The S-4 Database is creating a privately funded S4 SETI Project. They are looking for equipment and a name. If you would like to read more about this project, then go here for more information. I wish the S4 Database the best of luck in their new project.

SETI@Home problems[6:50pm CST]
Are you having trouble connecting to SETI@Home. I know I am. The latest from their web site is that they are having hardware problems. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

[7:23am CST]
Picture of the day: This is an excellent photo of the two man teams that watch over any prying eyes of the public near the border. Photographer is unknown.

Latest from SETI@Home [7:15pm CST]
Many people who run the SETI@Home program were having problems connecting to SETI. SETI@Home has just released a news report with details about the problem.

The new server configuration is finally online. The "science" part of the database (tapes, workunits, spikes, gaussians) has been moved to the 450. Several tables were frozen while this was in progress; that's why our statistics flatlined for a few days. Most of our software had to be modified to use the correct database.

Over the past weekend we experienced a combination of server crashes and university wide network problems. The network problems were resolved on Monday. We have installed the most up to date kernel patch to our data server. In addition, we are exploring possible SCSI bus issues, also on the data server. Because of the lengthy outages, we had a backlog of connection requests all day yesterday which resulted in widespread inability to connect. At this point however, things appear stable and all connections are succeeding.

Area 51 Trip Report [7:30am CST]
Joey "Crazymaler" Fang has just come back from the Area 51 region from his latest trip two days ago. I was surprised to hear that he saw "the bus" sitting by the side of the road.

SETI@Home [7:33am CST]
I was able to connect to SETI@Home this morning, but my hours and data units did not increase. I am assuming that their disk problem is fixed, but they still have a few glitches here and there.

[7:11am CST]
Picture of the day: The huge hanger, jokingly called Hanger 18, is a massive structure located at Area 51. What could such a huge hanger be used for? Maybe to house the Aurora.....

Electrochromatic Panels [6:17pm CST]
You may remember a couple of weeks ago that I mentioned the possibility of a new kind of "camouflage" testing going on at Groom Lake. An excellent article by Norio Hayakawa has just been written giving the details about the testing. This new type of testing is very strange but interesting.

[7:33am CST]
Picture of the day: Here is a picture of our favorite little sign.

[12:00am CST]
Picture of the Day: This image shows the outlines of the military borders around Area 51. From what I know this is the first of its kind on the Internet. Thanks Luke for sending it to me. (116K)

Mailbox Folklore [10:35am]
An excellent article by Majestic called Mailbox Folklore has been written about the crazy ideas floating around Rachel not really known to the public. Some of the ideas may make you think differently about Rachel and the surrounding areas, but it should not be taken seriously. Majestic's homepage is Dreamland51

[10:35am] Picture of the Day: The Black Mailbox is the most famous location where saucer watchers could see the entire airspace over Area 51. Many strange lights have been photographed and seen here. In 1996 the Black Mailbox was painted white, but the name Black Mailbox stuck with it.

National UFO Conference [7:30am CST]
I will be attending the 36th Annual National UFO Conference in San Antonio, TX, September 25-26. Some of the speakers include Whitney Strieber, Walt Andrus, Joe Firmage, Kenn Randle, and many more. Even though this has nothing to do with Area 51, I will make a very rare page that has to do with aliens and UFOs on the site. Who knows...maybe Area 51 will be brought up at the conference?

Weekly Area 51 Poll [7:25am CST]
I was a little late in changing it, but the question on the Weekly Area 51 Poll has finally changed.

[7:15am CST]
Picture of the Day: Here is a picture of one of the many survellience cameras that protect the border of Area 51.

[7:22am CST]
Picture of the Day: Here is a good photo of Groom Lake Road. You can travel approximately 13 and a half miles until you reach the restricted area boundary.

Rally to End Secrecy
The Rally to End Secrecy is coming up next month. I think this event is interesting, but I don't know what the rally will be like. I decided to put their flyer on the website (watch out! 227K!).

SETI@Home
SETI@Home is still having problems. So if you are experiencing problems running the program, you are not the only one. According to their website, they will continue to have problems until they have a hardware upgrade on 9/22.

[12:00am]
Picture of the Day: I am a little early on today's picture. The reason being is that I did not have a picture yesterday. Today's picture is one of the Janet aircraft. These aircraft are used to shuttle workers to and from Area 51 and Tonopah Test Range. If you are curious, I made a Janet flight schedule in July. You can see the schedule here
Sunday September 19, 1999
Picture of the Day: Today's picture is five of the 15 signs that I counted near the border on Groom Lake Road. It seems like every couple of months a new sign is added.

SETI@Home Software Upgrade [6:55am CST]
If you have been experiencing problems with SETI@Home, today is the day that they are suppose to get a software upgrade to fix many of the problems they are having.

[6:55am CST] Picture of the Day: I would like to apologize for not updating the picture of the dy everyday. I have been very busy lately with all sorts of things. Today's picture is the workers that take the bus to the base at Area 51. The cars can been seen parked at the junction of Highway 93 and 375.

National UFO Conference [8:40pm CST]
The 36th annual National UFO Conference is being held this Saturday and Sunday in San Antonio, Texas. I plan to attend on both days to listen to many well known speakers and abtuctees. I am very curious to see if Area 51 manages to sneek its way into the conference. We will just have to wait and see.
Sunday September 26, 1999
National UFO Conference
The 36th annual National UFO Conference finally ended today. The speakers over the two day conference were Walt Andrus, Joe Firmage, Jim Mosely, Patrick Huyghe, Kevin Randle, Karl Pflock, Contance Clear, Whitley Strieber, Tom Deuley, and Linda Corley. Area 51 was not mentioned during the conference, but the merchandise was there. One vendor had nothing but Area 51 souveniers for sale. The "UFO Bus" had a "use of deadly force authorized" sticker on the side of it. I did not agree with everything said at the conference, but it was well worth the time to go. The speakers were excellent and it was interesting to hear what they had to say.

Joey "Crazymaler" Fang [6:40pm CST]
Joey "Crazymaler" Fang has just uploaded the pictures from his latest trip the the Area 51 region on September 5. I encourage you to see them.

[12:00am CST]
Picture of the Day: Todays's Picture is another close up of the Janet aircraft that shuttle workers to and from Area 51. I thought is was funny that a worker drives an RV to work. I just had to get a picture :).
