CLASSIC HORROR
This page is devouted to Classic Horror, which is indeed a pretty broad term. For these purposes I define classic horror as anything prior to 1970 since it was about that time that horror somehow transformed from the normal larger than life monsters, to the modern slasher/evil possession type horror that we have now.
MY OPINION ABOUT CLASSIC HORROR
Many people believe that classic horror is far superior to any modern horror. I firmly disagree with that. In many ways they are two completely different genres. Classic horror tends to be more disturbing. There are not quite as many bodies piled up, the gore is much more subdued, and there is much more importance on dialogue (as cheesy as it can be) than thrills. It is indeed the psycological component and the excellent story lines that makes classic horror the superb genre it is. I love classic horror for what its worth, but when I'm in a need of a horror fix...the classic stuff just doesn't do it. While modern horror is indeed ridden with holes (classic horror, even as complex as the story is....always makes the ends meet somehow), it is the suspense, the BELIEVEABILTITY (sorry guys...I'd believe a person can be possessed by a Ouija Board before I believe that a guy from Transylvania can turn into a bat), and the compact stories that would make me rent Nightmare on Elm Street 6.9 before The Mummy when I'm in need for that bloody fix. But there are many times that the modern stuff just won't work for me: the times I crave something less mindless and more sinister. And that's when the classic horror movie fulfills my needs. Despite what many horror-buffs will tell me: modern and classic horror are EQUAL but different entities. Modern can be appreciated for its shock value, its thrills, and its on-the-edge-of-your-seat ride, and Classic for its psychological component, its complex storylines, and just simply for the fact that blood looks a whole lot cooler in black and white.
Dracula, Frankenstein, and all the others that are in contention for the title King or Queen of classic horror.
Boris Karloff, Fay Wray, Vincent Price, Alfred Hitchcock, and others who are indeed the Heinz 57 blood of classic horror.
If your a classic horror virgin, here's a couple movies to rent to get up to par with the rest of us.
I realize you don't give a damn, but here is a listing of my favorite classic horror movies.
