Before anything else, it is important to state that I enjoy Stargate SG-1. I
don't spend huge amounts of my free time writing about something I dislike. But
after watching an episode several times I can't help but notice the little errors that
appear in all television shows.
This site is a tribute to every error I've found, from the obvious (number
of times Earth symbol appears of other gates) to the truly obscure. So why not get
your videos out and sit down to enjoy hours of fluffed lines, scientific impossibilities,
plot errors and contradictions.
Mysteries:
- Why does the SGC only have one shower room?
- How does Teal'c light all the candles in his room so fast?
General Problems:
Most of the errors are listed in the episode they appear, however there are certain
errors that don't fit into any one episode:
- Stargate Addresses - I started to make a list of the different worlds, only to find out
that for the first season they almost alway use Abydos and Chulak. Often the screen
doesn't match the close-ups of the gate. I plan to go back and make a full list of
when this happens.
- In the earlier series, we very rarely see the MALP off-world. Sometimes we see
footage from it but it isn't there when they gate through. One solution in that it's
programmed to explore (Urgo) but that's a bit of a cop-out.
- Radiation Tests - sometimes a group of people in radiation suits come out to check the
gate, more often they don't. Why not fix a Geiger counter behind the gate and be
done with it?
- De-contamination - apparently only necessary if someone falls dies off-world.
- Someone shouting "Unauthorized traveller" even before the gate is open - they
couldn't tell because the iris code can only be sent after gate opens. This is not
to be confused with the more often heard shout "Unscheduled Gate Activation",
which is correct.
- The blue explosion as the gate activates is highly destructive - yet sometimes they act
as it would destroy the iris and sometimes they close it before the gate actives. (I
personally find this very annoying as I still enjoy the gate activation sequences - also
O'Neill agrees with me, see Entity.)
- Defense against Reetu - although invisible they can be seen by shining a special light
source on them, so why don't they have one of these illuminators pointing towards the
gate?
- Defense against Shape-shifters - The device responsible for their Shape-shifting
abilities can be rendered immobile by a specific sound frequency in the audible range.
Yet after Foothold we never hear this sound again.
