Hathor

An archeology team exploring an ancient Mayan Pyramid in Mexico discovers an Egyptian sarcophagus deep inside a hidden chamber.  From it emerges Hathor, an ancient Egyptian god who kills the archeologists then disappears.

The empty sarcophagus arrives at the SGC, having been sent to Doctor Jackson.  O'Neill and Daniel instantly reconise the sarcophagus as a Goa'uld healing device like the one Ra had.  But it couldn't have killed the archeologists.  So who did it contain, and who is the woman the guards have detained for demanding access to the Stargate?

As Hathor uses her charms to control the men on the base, it is left to Carter and a few other women to save the base from the Eygption goddess of Love.

Great Quotes:

TEAL'C: "I have served the Goa'uld.  I have yet to meet a good one."
HAMMOND: "Perhaps that's because you served the wrong one."

Review:

We have got though six episodes, including a visit to Apophis' strong hold, Chulak, without meeting a Goa'uld.  So this episode reminds us what this series is about in the broader sense.
The opening is wonderful, with the surprise discovery of a Goa'uld on Earth.  It is also fairly scary without actually showing anything.  The episode does something that is very rare for a television programme, starting off mild and getting increasing more dramatic and violent.  Culminating in Carter shooting Hathor.
Perhaps the only disapointing thing is the casting of Hathor, who doesn't maintain interst for very long and bears little resemablance to pictures/statues of either Hathor or Aphrodite.  [2 out of 5]
