Lieutenant Commander Valerie has the dubious honour of being the only female Space Marine in existence. She is the only result of an experiment carried out two centuries ago by Chief Librarian Matthawa and Incarna, the daemon prince. They found that by careful manipulation of the Saurus Legion gene-seed they could create impants that would hold in female members of the homeworld population.
The implants were a horrible failure. The women (who were all given the codename Valerie) were mutated in a variety of twisted and chaotic ways, and ran amok through the Fortress-Monastery, slaughtering Marines and the human servants.
Valerie 23 was the only survivor of the ensuing carnage. She remained relatively unchanged; the implants seemed to have worked successfully on her. She found herself gifted with an unnatural strength and intelligence, and was quickly inducted into the ranks as the first and only Battle Sister. She rose at astonishing speed to the rank of Lieutenant and then Lieutenant Commander. Takant has since forbidden any further experiments.
Valerie remains, despite the huge changes wrought on her by the mutated implants, an attractive woman, and her figure is possessed of a speed and strength that many find disturbing. She and the Chapter do not see her as an aberration; she gained the honorific when, in a rare battle against the Blood Angels during the aftermath of Ichar IV, she came face to face with Mephiston, the Blood Angels Chief Librarian. The vampiric monster declared her to be an aberration against nature, and Valerie has kept the name ever since.
She also thought it was quite funny coming from him.
Valerie carries the severed and bound claw of a Bloodthirster as a close combat weapon. She wears specially modified power armour that projects psychic terror energy into her opponents, and also bears a master-crafted bolt gun. Not the most unique piece of equipment in the world, but useful nonetheless.
