Personal Comments This is one of those episodes, found in many Science Fiction series, when characters get a chance to act differently. The Chig weapon brings out the darkest phobias of the 58th, playing each other off with fear and paranoia. Excellent stuff, with some great interaction between the characters supported by great acting. The scene at the end with each of the 58th pointing guns at each other is truly wonderful - deadly serious, yet almost comic as they try to control their own personal daemons while keeping a tight grip on their rifles in case anyone has other ideas... I found it interesting that Hawkes was the first person to show the effects, long before exposure to the first attack. Are In Vitros more sensitive to the weapon? Is this a physical/genetic thing, or is it because Hawkes is 18 years behind everyone else in learning how to control his emotions? Also, what was with all the visualised skeletons during attacks with the weapon? Was this just a production ploy (tsk, tsk) or what is an actual effect of the weapon - X-Rays or other radiation perhaps? Finally, we know (well, strongly presume) the Chigs know fear - the first indication that Chigs are not cold-blooded, heartless creatures, but emotional people. A sign of things to come in the later episodes. Also, the indication that they understand us is interesting - and forms a thread through later episodes. Just how long have the Chigs been aware of us? (Similarly: how long have humans really been aware of them?) Production Goofs Nothing of note. Perhaps you have some? |
