West: If I feel anything which might be a prostrate, I'm out of here... |
Plot
After a brief firefight, the Saratoga succeeds in capturing a damaged Chig ship. At first, AeroTech take charge of the vessel and begin to dismantle and examine it, but McQueen has other plans... to use it as a Trojan horse... |

Personal Comments More evidence of Chigs having similarities to humans. As well as understanding fear, it appears the Chigs have a similar bioelectric makeup to us. As regards Chig technology, we know they obviously have some pretty advanced technology - including biotechnology. While the basic frame of their vessels is obviously manufactured, the internals and avionics appears to be living, growing material adapted to neurological control and interfacing. The ship was even referred to as cognitive. (Did it deliberately misdirect the cluster bomb?) Earth forces have a similar interfacing idea, it's a natural evolution from mechanical control, but base theirs upon Virtual Reality and electronic components. They also seem to use it in a less widespread way. After all, the Hammerhead's still use steering wheel style controls! The interfacing idea is also interesting on another level, in that the Chigs work as a team in conjunction with the, living, ship. Although I don't have much to back this up, the Chigs seem to work more in a non-individual, group mentality. Same uniforms (pretty much), always in groups (except Chiggie von Richtofen) and so on. Just a few thoughts... Production Goofs None at first glance... though I wasn't really paying attention. However, doesn't it seem odd that they'd be in an alien vessel, heading for an alien base without equipping themselves with much in the way of environment suits or survival equipment. Surely it wasn't that much of a suicide mission? |
