Alec Thorne was in possesion of an intellect few could equal. Considered the smartest man in all of Canada he believed himself to be the better of even Reed Richards. Did his smarts actually help him in battle? Well kinda, he could figure out ways to either deflect weapons brought to bear against him or even turn them back upon his attackers.
After the first mission of Hudson's new super powered team Smart Alec was sent down to Gamma Flight for more training. When Department H lost its government backing Alec Thorne was brought into the Omega Flight team by Delphine Courtney and when they confronted Hudson and the rest of Alpha FLight he quite unfortunately took a look in Shaman's pouch. His mind gone Shaman shrank the remaining body and put it into the pouch from which it would much later return being possesed by Walt Langkowski. During the events of Sasquatch's return the body was crushed and so with both his body and his mind gone it's pretty unlikely Smart Alec will be bothering anyone ever again.
