October 3, 349
The next day, October 3, dawns overcast again. There is a slight drizzle, just enough to be a bother. The party sets out anyways.
"Let's go back in through the cave entrance that we found," Tabrina says.
Around lunchtime, the party finds the yeti cave, Urwing leading the way.
The cave looks the same way that it did the last time the party entered it, except for a large pile of bones on the ground. The party figures that it belonged to the yeti that they killed.
The party stops to ponder where it wants to go.
"Let's go to the 4-way intersection that leads to the room where Ms. Noble
Paladin trussed up the minotaurs...continue east to the next intersection,
go north, and then look around the corner to the east..." suggests Tabrina.
The party heads off in that direction. Making their way to the intersection, itself a 4-way, east of the one Tabrina mentioned, they go north and look around the corner. From the southeast corner, the hall goes 20' then ends. The party opens the door to see a previously mapped hallway going east, with doors in the 30-40' section on both walls. The party shuts the door and goes south, then east to the unusually- shaped room.
Opening the door in the east wall of the room, the party sees a 30x40' room (20 south, 30 east). The room contains a large fountain, about 5' in diameter, in the center of the room. The fountain is made out of stone and has fish heads at the four corners pointing up and to the middle. There is nothing coming out of the mouths and the basin is dry. The floor of the room has a black and white checkered pattern. There are two doors in the north wall, in the 0-10', and 10-20' sections measured from the west. There is also a door in the east wall, north corner.
Reg will stride into the room an attempt to open the east door.
"Nice fishies!" says Angus with a smile. He goes and plays with them.
Playing with the fish heads causes liquid to suddenly spray out of the mouths into the basin. The liquids are red, green, blue, and yellow respectively. They are all odorless.
"Why don't you open a random door, Mr. Loser At Arm Wrestling?" Tabrina
says to Reg, as she pokes about.
"Oh shut up you nag!" says Reg, still furious over losing the sword to a
woman. Reg then goes over and opens the door in the east wall after
checking for sounds behind it.
Opening the east door reveals a hallway running east for 60' and beyond. At the 50-60' section is a 4-way intersection with a hallway running north-south.
"Wow...Kool-Aid!" the dwarf exclaims. He takes a drink of the green liquid.
"You fool," says Tabrina, and not for the first time. Then, she watches to
see if Angus turns into a bullfrog or something.
Angus experiences a case of chills, which quickly pass. The fluid tastes like water.
Angus will earn a 30% bonus on all experience he earns until he achieves the next level.
"Golly!" says the dwarf, and does a few handsprings around the room for effect.
Urwing smiles, assuming Angus is able to express the pool's function to
us in some way. "I guess now we know why this is their training center."
She does however refrain from a drink. "I think if I wait a bit it will
serve me better."
Elderitch also moves over to the fountain to take a drink from the
green liquid, "Well, I guess there is only one way to find out what
will happen...." He then takes a drink before the party leaves the room.
El feels a chill in his body. After it passes, he feels like he has a renewed strength.
"Hmmm..." says Tabrina. "Reg, why don't you take a drink? It may increase
your upper arm strength."
Reg grins. "sounds like a good idea to me!", he says. He then moves over
and takes a long deep drink.
Reg takes a drink from the green fountain. He experiences chills, which quickly pass. He waits to see if anything else happens, but is disappointed when nothing does.
"Oh well," says Tabrina, and takes a drink of the red liquid.
Tabrina feels a burning sensation as she drinks the liquid.
"You ok? I wonder why these fountains are here in the first place?"
"Oh well," she says. A strange feeling overcomes Tabrina as she loks at Reg. She suddenly finds that she is madly in love with him. "Reg dear, why don't you open the door in the northeast corner?" she asks.
Reg mumbles something under his breath about bossy women. "What's gotten into you woman?" He then goes to open the door in the NE corner.
The hallway, as previously mapped, goes for 60' and beynod to the east. At the 50-60' section is a 4-way intersection with a hallway running north-south. The party goes to the intersection and looks each way. The south hall goes for 30' and ends in a door to the south. The east hall goes for a further 60' and beyond. In the 40-50' section is another 4-way intersection with a hallway running north-south. To the north, the hallway goes for 50', ending in a door to the north.
"Perhaps it only functions once per day," urwing says about the fountain.
"Look at the benefits. If this thing works even once per day its worth
its weight in gold. Of course I wonder what the magician who built it
had to give up to create the thing. Such magics are not without cost
I wager."
"Ohhh...Reg, I love it when you talk tough to me," Tabrina says, her violet
eyes wide.
"Ohhh...Reg, I love it when you talk tough to me," Tabrina says, her violet
eyes wide.
"Reggie, my little honeybun, would you like to open that door to the south?
Please? Pretty please?"
"Fine.", says Reg striding over and opening the South door after
checking for sounds.
"Thankyou, my sweet!" Tabrina says, following him closely...very closely.
Reg, and Tabrina, go to listen at the south door. Not hearing anything, he opens it. The room behind the door is 30x50' in size (10 east, 10 west, 50 south.) Measured from the north in the 10-20' sections, there is a door in the east wall and a hallway in the west wall running west.
In front of the party , looking quite surprised, are a group of 4 Kenku.
"Ack!" says Tabrina, and casts sleep on them.
Then she goes and hides behind Reg.
Sword at the Ready, Reg charges the group of surprised monsters.
Urwing asks "What are kenku? Are they something nasty looking that would cause a paladin to attack on sight?"
Sarah tells urwing "They are 7 or 8 feet tall humanoids with hawk heads and feet, and yes we should attack them."
Urwing does just that.
Tabrina's spell goes off, causing all four Kenku to fall down. Reg and Urwing finish the job.
The room is full of debris and straw.
Searching the bodies, the party finds a dagger and a samurai sword on each body.
There is nothing else of interest in here.
The party sees that the west hallway goes for 10' then opens up into a room to the north and south.
They go down to investigate.
The room actually is 20x30' in size (10 north, 30 west). There is a door in the middle of the north wall and a door in the south half of the west wall. Immediately to the party's left, in the 0-10' section, is a hallway going south for 20', after which it opens up to the east and west. The room has small piles of bones around the room. It is devoid of furnishings. The party sifts through the bones to no avail. They find the room rather boring.
The party goes south to check out the opening, Reg and Urwing in front just in case. Looking into the opening, they see that it is actually another room, 30x40' in size (10 east, 20 west, 30 south). The room contains a pile of miscellaneous stuff in the southwest corner. Rummaging through it, they find the following:
3000 gp, 400 pp, 6 gems @ 500 gp each, 2 scrolls, a shield, and 2 metallic vials.
Everything else is worthless.
Tabrina looks at the scrolls.
The first scroll has magic user spells on it. They are: precipitation, enlarge, explosive runes, telekinesis, and death spell.
The second spell has Protection from Possession on it.
"I've got a magic shield already," saya Angus, "I think..."
Urwing nods. "I could use it, hand it here."
Elderitch smiles, "I can use that", he reaches for the shield, "maybe
it will keep me conscious during the next conflict."
Angus wonders who to hand the shield to.
Elderitch will pocket the gems and 200pps to carry. "Someone else can
help carry this loot also", looking around.
The party distributes the rest of the coinage between them.
Sarah looks at the vials. They look to be the same size as vials that the party has seen in the past.
"Maybe you should arm-wrestle for the shield," says Angus. "That worked before..."
Urwing smiles. "Arm wrestle you for it."
Elderitch looks to Urwing, "Well, I'm not arm wrestling you for it,
but I could definately use the extra protection."
She laughs, and gives a wink at a certain other person in the group,
and hands the shield over to Elderitch.
"I'll hold onto the scrolls," says Tabrina, "Unless you want the protection
scroll, Sarah..?"
Sarah says "Better we keep the scrolls split up. I'll carry it, although how it will be useful I have no idea."
"Let's hope we don't learn the hard way," says Tabrina as she hands the protection scroll over.
"Take a swig, Angus!" says Tabrina.
The dwarf samples the potions.
Angus feels more youthful after tasting the first one. The second one is an oil. Angus tries it on his hand, but finds that his other hand slides right off.
"Longevity and oil of slipperiness!" he exclaims.
"If you're finished dinking around," says Tabrina, "Let's go back to the
last room and open the west door."
Opening the west door, after Reg listens and hears nothing, reveals a corridor running wes fro 40', ending in a door. In the 20-30' section is a 4-way intersection running north-south.
Moving up to the intersection to look both ways, the party sees that the south hall goes for 20' then ends in a door facing south. The north hall goes for 30', turning west after 10.
Going north then looking around the corner to the west, the hallway is actually a 20x20' room (10 west, 20 north. Along the western wall is a pile of logs and branches, about 3' in height, and is covered with a green moss-like substance.
Urwing asks the others "Anybody recognize what the moss is? Can we just step over it safely?"
Looking at it again, Urwing realizes that the wood is piled along one wall.
"Or we could burn them out of our way. Of course the smoke will let
everyone know we are down here."
"Throw something at it for starters and see what happens," suggests Tabrina.
Elderitch will take a close look at the moss (using his forest lore), using only a dagger to touch it and holding his breath while doing so in case it releases
spores.
Sarah looks at the moss. Does her herbalism skill tell anything?
The moss looks like ordinary moss.
Reg says, "Baa, I hate eggheads", as he steps over the moss and continues
onward.
Urwing laughs as Reg walks into the wall. (Moss is against a wall)
"How about we move this wood and make sure nothing is buried under
it. Hey Angus, isn't log tossing a traditional dwarven sport. Bet
ya can't hurl those things all the way to the other side of the
room."
Sarah shakes her head. "Since when was the moss in our path?"
While the others dig through the pile of moss and wood, seeing if there is anything buried, Angus picks up the heavy logs and tosses them across the room with ease.
Suddenly, from around the corner, appear 8 ghouls. They quickly converge on the party.
The ghoul on Reg bites and claws him for 8 hp damage.
Urwing's armor repels all attcks by the 2 ghouls on her.
Angus takes a claw to his arm for 3 hp damage.
El has two ghouls on him, but only one manages to get a claw past his defenses for 2 hp damage.
A ghoul manages to land its claw on Sarah for 2 hp damage.
The ghoul on Tabrina manages to bite her for 4 hp damage.
Urwing begins swinging her new magical sword at the undead creatures.
Getting the feel of her new sword, she slices a ghoul in two.
"Blast!" says the dwarf, and attacks with his magic longsword.
Angus easliy chops his ghoul down.
"Ack!" says Tabrina, and runs away.
She tries to run away, as the ghoul tries to attack her but misses, and is running around the room.
Reg, already enraged through the embarrasment of walking into a wall,
pushes the ghoul off of him anf rips out his sword. Full of warriors fury
he delves into the ghouls..hacking and slashing with all of his incredible
might while yelling.."Ahhhh...you will die for your deeds foul creatures!"
Reg sticks his sword into its side.
Elderitch fells a ghoul like an experienced swordsman.
Sarah easily turns the rest of the ghouls, causing them to run back down the hallway.
Dusting themselves off, the party looks down the hallway, only to see the door at the south end of the hall wide open.
"Let's go finish them varmints off," says Angus, making for the door.
"Anyone got any oil?"
The party marches south and looks in the open door. They see a room 30x40' in size(20 west, 10 east, 30 south). In the southeast corner are the remaining ghouls. The party finishes them off in quick succession.
The room looks like a typical undead lair, being dark and dingy with a musty smell to the air.
Searching the room, the party finds 3 jewellry worth 4000 gp each, and 3 scrolls.
Elderitch picks up the jewelry, adorning one of them, hopefully a
necklace of some sort, then tosses one to Urwing and the other to
Sarah, saying, "Here, you two can help carry some of this stuff.
It's better to keep it split up within the group."
"Great!" exclaims Tabrina, as she looks at the scrolls.
The first one is a magic user scroll, with the 2nd level spell Melf's Magic Arrow on it.
The second one, also a magic user scroll, has Tenser's Floating Disk and Preserve on it.
The third one has Protection From Magic on it.
"I'll hang onto the scrolls, if nobody minds," says Tabrina, putting them
in her pack. "Now, let's go back up to the 4-way, and open that west door."
"Yeah, but don't lose them like you lost your spellbooks. When we find
a real magician who can cast something more than cantrips these scrolls
will become useful."
Urwing winks at the Angus and covers a smile with her hand.
Tabrina glares at the paladin.
"You will never get any more help than cantrips from me, Earwig."
Urwing shoots back, "I wouldn't want to ask you to do anything beyond your abilities."
"And you won't..." Tabrina replies.
Urwing laughs. "Where to now, oh great magician?"
Tabrina tells Urwing, "Clean your ears, paladin. I already told you."
The party takes Tabrina's suggestion and heads back to the 4-way and heads to the west door. Opening the door revealsa 20x30' room (10 north, 10 south, 20 west). There is a door in the west wall, south corner. The room has a faint aroma of wood. It looks like it used to be a carpentry shop, with a wooden table along the north wall and old rusted tools hanging above it. There are scraps of wood on the floor around the table.
Elderitch begins searching the room cautiously.
Searching the room turns up nothing of interest.
Reg looks bored...he leans his back up against on of the walls and begins
playing with his mighty sword.
"Put that thing back in your pants, you disgusting pervert!" snaps Tabrina.
She turns and walks away...back to the chamber to the east, through the
north door, to the 4-way, and north to the door at the end of the passage.
Hopefully, the rest of you follow her...
The others follow Tabrina, Reg reluctantly. Stepping over Kenku corpses as they go, the party eventually reaches the door that Tabrina mentioned. Reg listens at the door, but to no avail. He then proceeds to open it and sees a room 20x60' (20 east, 30 west, 20 north). There is a door, which is open, directly opposite in the north wall. Beyond the door is a hallway going north for 40', ending in a door facing north. In the 20-30' section of the hallway is a 4-way intersection with a hall running east-west. The walls of the room are covered with patches of moss. Otherwise the room is empty.
The party goes up to the 4-way and look.
As they cross the room, however, they are surprised as they are attacked by a gelatinous cube. Urwing is under attack, but his armor easily repels the attack.
Elderitch steps back, "Reg, I believe you will have more effect on
this than me." He then pulls a torch out and begins lighting it,
"Tabrina, any way you can help me light this thing any faster?"
Tabrina hands him a vial of oil.
Elderitch light the oil and tries to hit the cube. The burning oil hits its mark, burning into the side of the cube.
Reg smiles widely, "I like slicing and dicing jello!", he exclaims as he
rips his sword out and attacks the gelatinous cube.
Tabrina stands back and shouts encouragement to Urwing.
"C'mon, you stupid paladin! A 'cube should be no sweat to you! Or are you
going to try and tie it up and stick it in a closet?"
Angus draws his longsword and attacks the monster.
"Duh!" he says, uttering the ancient war cry of the Kludar dwarves.
Urwing attacks the cube, sticking her sword into it.
Reg's sword, however, glances off of the cube.
Attacking back, the cube touches Urwing for 6 hp damage. Urwing quickly collapses to the ground, paralyzed.
The next round, the cube goes after Reg, but it misses him.
Returning the attack, Reg decapitates the cube as the bruning oil burns itself out.
Cutting up the cube and searching the room turns up nothing of value.
Angus goes and checks on the 4-way intersection while the rest of the party waits for Urwing to come out of it. He tells the party that the hallways from the intersection go for 30' and end to the west, and 30' to the east, ending in a door.
Urwing finally comes out of her paralysis 10 minutes or so.
After killing the creature, Reg wipes of his sword and puts it away saying,
"I eat cubes like these for breakfast!" He seems to be very happy with
himself.
Seeing the Paladin wake, Reg says, "Some Paladin...you fight like a
girl...oh..wait you are one!"
Urwing laughs. "Aye, last I checked."
Tabrina asks "How about to the north?"
Angus replies "That only went 10' then ended in a door. Didn't we already see that?"
"Let's check out the east door," suggests Tabrina.
The party heads to the east. The door opens onto a turn in a 10' wide hallway. Running east, along the south wall, it goes for 30', ending in a door facing east. Running north along the left hand side, the hallway goes for 60' and beyond. In the 30-40' section is a 4-way with a hall running east-west.
"Let's go to the 4-way and look each and every way." Tabrina tells the party.
Elderitch continues to carry the torch.
Looking at urwing, Tabrina wonders, "Is he - she - really? Hey Reg...maybe she'd like to play with your mighty sword!"
Reg turns to Tabrina..."Hey..no one plays with my sword except me!"
"Maybe that's why you're so wierd," says Tabrina, trying to see if Reg's
palms are hairy or not.
Looking down each way, the hallway west goes for 10', ending in a door to the west. To the east the hallway goes for 20', ending in a door facing east. Looking north, the hallway runs for another 60' beyond which was already mapped, ending in a T-intersection with a hall running east-west. From the 4-way that the party is standing, to the north in the 30-40' section, is another 4-way with a hallway running east-west.
El says to the others "How about the door?" as he points his thumb to the door to the west. He then moves to it and listens to see if he hears
anything beyond.
He hears nothing from behind the door, so he opens it. It opens into a room 30x40' in size (20 south, 40 west). There are doors in both the north and south walls in the 20-30' section from the east. The room is adorned with a large, 4-poster brass bed about 10' in width and 15' in length. It rests against the middle of the west wall. From the party's vantage point, the bed is surrounded by sheer curtains.
Stepping just inside the door, Elderitch will flip a throwing dagger
at the curtain around the bed attempting to pin part of it to the
wall so as to be able to see inside the bed.
The dagger goes sailing through the air, lifting the curtain for a split second before it is past the curtain and the curtain drops back down. In the split second, it looked like the bed was unoccupied.
Reg barges into the room, sword at the ready, and looks about.
El will move into the room with sword at ready and move the curtain away from
the bed with sword, if unoccupied he will retrieve his dagger.
The bed is unoccupied, so El retrieves his dagger.
The room looks to be deserted. The bed is neatly made up.
Elderitch proceeds to thoroughly search the room. (checking bed for
secret compartments, mattress, etc.)
Elderitch finds nothing in or under the bed.
Tabrina yawns and looks about.
"Open that north door, Reg...unless you'd like to try your mighty sword out
on me in that bed..?" she says, fluttering her eyes at him.
Angus chuckles.
Reg opens the north door to reveal a hallway running nort for 40', ending in a 10' wide T-intersection running east-west.
Going up to look, the party sees that the hallway runs east, meeting a previously mapped 4-way intersection. Beyond the intersection, the hall goes for another 20', ending in a door to the east.
Looking west, the hall only goes for 10' and ends in a door to the west.
Deciding on the closer door to the west, Reg listens to the door with no results. He then opens the door. It opens onto a large room. It is 40' wide (10 north, 20 south) and goes for 60' and more to the west.. In the north wall, in the 20-30' section from the east, is a door.
Reg and Urwing are suddenly set upon by a couple of gargoyles that drop down from below. The one on Reg sinks its two claws into him for 3 hp damage. All the attacks on Urwing bounce right off of her armor.
Other gargoyles, 6 more in total, jump down from their perch and join the attack.
"Duh!" says Angus, and attacks.
Angus barges his way past Urwing and Reg to engage a gargoyle, hitting in on his initial attempt.
"Ack!" says Tabrina...backing up to the intersection. Taking out a few
scrolls, she reads 'mirror image' off of one of them. Once protected by
that spell, she moves up again and casts 'Melf's acid arrow' off of another
scroll.
All of a sudden, there are three Tabrinas in the hallway.
A small ball of fire erupts from Tabrina's hands as the magic arrow spell disappears from the scroll. Her aim for the gargoyle on Reg is direct as it slams into the gargoyle, temporarily engulfing its head.
"Ahhhh!" Reg cries as he braces his mighty body for attack. Swinging his
gleaming metallic sword about deafly, he dives into the gargoyle horde,
slashing and hacking away at any monster foolish enough to cross his path.
Reg's sword bounces off the tough skin of the gargoyle.
Urwing successfully pierces his gargoyle's skin with her sword
"What a man!" swoons Tabrina, wetting her panties in the process.
The next round, Reg and Angus inflict more damage into their gargoyles, with Angus' starting to stagger.
The gargoyle on Angus hits him for 3 hp with it's horn.
Reg is hit with his gargoyle's claw for 1 hp of damage.
Urwing is hit with his gargoyle's tail for 4 hp damage.
Elderitch moves up to engage the gargoyles also, shield at ready.
Elderitch attacks a gargoyle, but misses with his sword.
Sarah wonders how bad the gargolyes look.
The gargoyle on Angus looks hurt. All of the others are fairly healthy.
Still enraged by the surprise gargoyle attack, Reg continues to attack fiercely.
His sword continues to carve up the gargoyle.
Angus continues to attack, grinning like an idiot.
He quickly decapitates the gargoyle.
Once Tabrina expends her magical arrow(s), she cast magic missile at a
random gargoyle.
Tabrina's magic missiles slam into an unoccupied gargoyle.
"Take that!" she exclaims.
Urwing chops her gargoyle to pieces.
The gargoyle on Reg inflicts 4 more hp damage on him.
The gargoyle on Elderitch claws him and stabs him with its horn for 3 hp damage.
Eldertich continues to attack, defensively mostly.
Reg continues to press his attack.
Urwing will move to help a comrad not that her personal gargoyle is
finished.
Angus looks around for more gargoyles to attack.
"Fun wow!" he says.
He engages an unoccupied one.
Tabrina backs up again and watches the rear.
Sarah casts Spiritual Hammer and throws it at a gargoyle.
The hammers start pounding into another unoccupied gargoyle.
The last unoccupied gargoyle doubles up to fight Urwing.
Reg takes 1 hp of damage before he finishes off his gargoylle and attacks the one that is being hit by Sarah's hammers.
Angus takes 4 hp of damage while he makes quick work of his gargoyle. He moves over to help Urwing afterwards.
After a few rounds and 16 more hp of damage Reg, with the help of Sarah's last hammer, finishes off his gargoyle.
Urwing takes 5 hp damage before finishing her gargoyle.
He helps out Angus, who is right beside him.
After a long fight against the last two gargoyles, Angus takes 25 more hp damage before Urwing finally finishes off the gargoyle.
Elderitch takes 19 more hp of damage before he polishes off the last gargoyle.
On the gargoyles the party finds 60 pp in total.
The room is filled with old skeletons that are human-sized. In the room, they find 5000 cp, 1000 ep, 3 gems @ 100 gp each, a suit of human-sized plate mail, and a potion.
The room is 70' in total length running east-west. In the north and south walls in the west corners are doors. Above each door are perches where the gargoyles sat.
"Owwww...I hurt all over!" says Angus, grinning all the same. "Sarah, can
you spare some healing?"
He samples the potion.
He feels like he can jump through burning hoops.
Tabrina looks over the beat up fighters.
Except for Urwing, the fighters look pretty beat up.
"Maybe it's time to call it a day," she says.
Reg will take a closer look at the suit of armor.
It is a very nice piece of armor.
The party gathers up its things and starts heading out. They make it to yeti cave with encountering anything. They settle down for a quiet evening.
"Looks that way." Urwing heals whoever looks the worst.
Elderitch: "I agree, let us regain our strength before setting out
again. How about a little healing Urwing, I'm bleeding to death over
here."
Urwing heals El for 10 hp.
Tabrina snuggles up to Reg.
"Actions..?" she asks him.
Amazingly enough Reg does not push her away...and instead just replies,
"Sleep.."
"Men!" snorts Tabrina.
Elderitch speaks up, "What's the possibility of heading back to town
for a while to train and reprovision?"
"I'd love to train," says Tabrina, looking away from Reg. "I may even have
the money to do so, too...once we split up the loot."
She looks at Sarah.
"Once you said something about the magic users of different ethos having
their own guilds, or something. What's the story?"
Sarah shrugs. "Very simple, to be truthful. There is one guild, no
more. To join the guild requires passing a test - if you live you are a
member. Krynn is divided into three forces - Good, Neutrality and Evil.
The mages are the only ones who accept all three under their roof.
Strange enough how they keep from killing each other. Most mages usually
wear colors of their order, white for good, red for neutral and black for
evil, but I have never seen anyone wearing black robes of course. You
might need someone to sponsor you, though. The tower the mages are at is
somewhere, really hard to find. Rumor has it that you have to be
invited."
Reg stares at Elderitch and then says, "We need to rest here for awhile
first...as for heading back to town...I don't think it's a good idea.
We've fought too hard to get to where we are now."
Sarah casts healing spells on whoever needs it. "Messy fight there.
Was worth it at the end though."
Angus is cured for 8 hp, while Reg is cured for 4 hp.
Elderitch suggests, "Let's go ahead and split this up as best we can
right now."
Reg nods in agreement.
"Unless someone else wants them, I'd like the protection scrolls," says Tabrina.
Urwing wants the plate mail. "Anybody else interested?"
Reg says, "I want it...you got that damn sword...I want this." Reg looks
like he is getting upset.
Urwing smiles. "Now don't go getting upset. You agreed fair and square
to the contest about the sword."
"But since you don't have any magics yet, why don't you take the armor.
After all, we can't very well have another contest that you'd lose."
Urwing gives a smile and lets Reg have the armor.
Reg takes the armor and tries it on..all the while giving Urwing a dark look.
The plate mail feels very comfortable.
Upon hearing about how magic users train, Tabrina mentions "Darn. Maybe I can train myself."
Sarah mentions, "On the minotaur island, yes you probably will unless you can find a mage here.. I doubt they could drag you in since we are a LONG ways from
the tower. But finding a wizard here will be difficult."
"Not a good idea," Urwing tells Tabrina. "You would be considered a renegade then and hunted down. There used to be several towers long ago. Now they inhabit only one, and I don't know where that lies. So many things have changed since last my race walked the land. Probably the best thing to do is ask a
fellow mage and see if he can help you, but make sure their robes are
white. Red robes and black would probably as soon kill you as help you."
Sarah adds, "It isn't her fault that the tower is far away. I should hope mages
have at least a little bit of intelligence. As for the bit about killing
people, I doubt a red robe would do it - but a white is you best bet. It
makes things the simplest."
Concerning the scrolls, Urwing tells Tabrina, "Fine by me. Perhaps you can copy some of the scrolls into your spellbook?"
"The protection scrolls don't contain spells as such," says Tabrina. "All
you can do is read them directly off the scroll...and that's it."
Elderitch will hold on to the two potions.
Tabrina would like the potion of longevity.
Angus will take the potion of fire resistance if no one else will.
Reg steps foward and says, "I'll take the potion of fire resistance too if
you don't mind."
Angus smiles at Reg and El.
"You two can arm wrestle for it," he says.
Urwing comments, "Oh, strength has nothing to do with the potion of fire resistance. The best test is obviously to hold their arms over a fire, and see
who burns worse. That is the person who needs it most."
Angus thinks about it for a moment.
"That sounds fair," he finally decides.
"Was that an attempt at paladin humour or something, Urkwing?" asks Tabrina.
"But how about the longevity potion?" continues the dwarf. "Do we put them
in a room with a ghost to see who ages faster?"
Everyone decides to settle the dispute for the potions in a democratic way. For the potion of longevity, Tabrina and Elderitch count to three and hold out one or two fingers while one of them calls out odd or even. While counting, Tabrina calls out "even." At the same time, Elderitch holds out one finger, while Tabrina holds out one finger. Thus Tabrina gets the potion.
For the potion of fire resistance, Elderitch, Reg and Angus count to three, with the odd mad out. They hold out two, two and one finger respectively. Elderitch and Reg do it again, with Reg calling out "one." El holds out one finger, while Reg holds out one finger. Elderitch gets the potion.
Elderitch questions, "Sarah, if you have any more of that healing
touch left, I could sure use your assistance?"
She tells Elderitch "I used all of my healing spells. I would have to relearn more of them. I can always dress the wound the old fashioned way."
"Well," grumbles Tabrina, "I don't think I have enough money to donate to
train myself. Is anyone else interested in going into town to look for
training? If not, then we may as well go back into the dungeon."
"I wouldn't worry about it - I doubt clerics of Kiri-Jolith are on this
island as well, but I wouldn't be surprised."
Sarah takes the rest of the day and the night to relearn enough healing spells to heal everyone up to full. Otherwise, it is uneventful.
The next morning, everyone is refreshed and ready to go, with the spellcasters having learned a full slate of spells.
