September 11, 349

The next day, September 11, starts off warm and overcast. A slight breeze is blowing from the northeast. The party quickly packs up and heads off. The trip is quick and uneventful. Around lunchtime, the outskirts of a town can be seen. The buildings are mostly crude stone structures. Tabrina tells the party that the town looks like Thorador.

Before the party headed out, Sarah takes some time to pray to Kiri-Jolith to replace her cause wounds spells with the curing equivalent. She also uses her healing skill to help out the injured people in the mean time. Afterwards, she'll heal whoever is most injured.

She realizes that she is the most injured. Thus, Sarah cures herself up to full hit points.

"I don't like the looks of this place..." says Tabrina. "I think we'd be in trouble pretty fast if we just sauntered in..."

"I agree.", says Reg, "Urwing, why don't you go in to check things out first. Maybe then we can come up with a plan that won't get us all killed."

"Agreed." Urwing doublechecks her 'disguise'.

"Did any of you catch any names? Where were you held?"

"No," replies Tabrina. "We were held in some dirt caves just outside of town...over there..."

She points.

Angus mentions "Angus. What about that Benny character?"

"Oh yeah," Tabrina nods. "He was held in one of the caves over by where I pointed. He seemed to know a bit about the town."

After getting some information about what the others know, Urwing arrogantly strides into the city.

The others find a place off the main road to hold up.

As Urwing marches into town, she sees that the town is occupied by armored minotaurs. She quickly blends into the general populace.

The crude stone buildings, it is observed, have minotaurs standing guard at the entrance.

Walking around town, Urwing notices the shipyards from a distance. There is a large ship that is under construction. It is heavily guarded. There are also many labourers working in the area.

Up on a hill on the edge of town is a castle. The castle is not very big, being about 20 feet high. There are many guards around it and a stone shack next to it.

In the hillside, in the area that Tabrina pointed, are minotaurs guarding doors in the hill.

Urwing decides to walk over to the hillside. Boldly striding up to the main guard, "New prisoners? Are we going to see them fight soon? I'd like a chance to claim some of their loot."

The guard replies "Did Lord Myca send you over?"

Urwing nods his head.

"All we have in here is a kender. I don't know why we are watching him. If I had my way, he would have been killed long ago. Lord Myca insists on keeping him around though. Go on in and see for yourself."

The guard opens the door and lets Urwing go in.

After her eyes adjust to the lighting conditions, Urwing sees that the cave is roughly circular, about 25' in diameter. The room is empty except for a pile of straw upon which is sleeping a kender. Going over to the kender, Urwing wakes it up."

The Kender awakens "Uh. What do you want. Let me sleep."

Urwing asks the Kender if their name is Benny. When the Kender nods, Urwing tells Benny who he is and what he is doing here.

Benny tells Urwing where stuff is stored in town and good luck getting it. He also tells Urwing to say hi to Tabrina, Angus, Thurston, and Bakis for him.

Urwing knocks on the door to have the guard let him out.

The rest of the party waits, keeping low so no one passing will see them first. If Urwing takes too long, they may go in after her but they'll give her some time first.

Tabrina and Angus eat lunch.

"I think that we should move a little way off the side of this road and keep ourselves out of sight", says Reg, "Why don't we set up a small camp over there and then we can grab a bite to eat." Reg points to a group of trees/bushes that will afford the group some protection from sight while still giving them a clear view of the road.

The party agrees, and sets up a small camp where Reg suggests. The members each take turn as a lookout to watch for Urwing and/or other minotaurs.

Going over to where Benny said the stuff was probably stored, Urwing tells the guard that he is he to gather up the equipment of the human prisoners that was collected about a week ago. The guard tells Urwing to wait here while he retrieves the stuff. A few minutes later, the guard reappears with a sack. He hands this over to Urwing and tells her to sign for it. He produces a clipboard with a piece of paper attatched to it and a pencil tied to the board with a string.

After signing for it, Urwing quickly leaves and heads back out of town. She tries not to look too obvious in her desire to get out of town as fast as possible, on the off chance that she is stopped by a patrol. She manages to get out of town unnoticed and finally arrives back to where she left her comrades.

Looking around, the sight of nobody around has Urwing bewildered. She scratches her head, wondering what to do next.

Reg motions for the others to stay hidden and walks on to the road. He will take a closer look at the minotaur and see if he recognizes him. If so, Reg will motion the others to follow him onto the road and approach the minotaur. If not, Reg will motion for the other to stay hidden and cautiously approach the minotaur saying, "Hail friend!".

The minotaur says "Hey Reg, it's me, Urwing. Where are all the others?"

Reg motions for the others to come over.

Urwin is holding a sack of equipment. "Your friend Benny is still being held in that prison. With a little luck, I may be able to bring him out. Watch carefully though, and be prepared to run."

Urwing drops the sack, and starts to head back into town.

"He wouldn't come with us before," says Angus.

Urwing frowns. "Then perhaps I shall be making quite a hasty retreat. But I can't leave him imprisoned there. Once he is free, he can return if he wishes."

Sarah asks, "Why wouldn't he leave? That doesn't seem to make sense.."

"Perhaps he knew what he was doing," says Tabrina. "That was when we made our first break...the minotaurs recaptured us and beat the stuffing out of us. The second time - during the earthquake - we just fled in a panic. I don't know what happened to him then...he was in a different cave."

Urwing decides "If he doesn't want to leave voluntarily, then there's no sense risking my neck again by going back into town."

Urwin drops the bag for Tabrina and Angus. Sorting through the stuff, Tabrina and Angus find all of their stuff in the bag, minus any coins, gems, and jewelry that they had on them when they were captured.

Looking at Urwing, Sarah smiles. "I'm impressed - what did you do, walk in and take the stuff?"

Sorting through the stuff, Angus discovers that his long sword, dagger, and potion are present. He finds Tabrina's potion as well.

"Whee!" says Angus, doing handsprings.

"Where did you find this?" asks Tabrina.

Urwing gives a grin, her fangs gleeming in the light. "I simply asked politely for them."

"Forward, direct...and sneaky as hell...not bad for a Paladin Urwing", says Reg with a grin.

Tabrina looks at Urwing in silence for a moment...then shakes her head slowly.

"Never thought to do that," says Angus.

"That fact that I look like a minotaur definitely helped," Urwing responds.

"They did ask me to sign for them, and assumed I was from a 'Lord Myca'. I chose not to dissillusion them on the issue, but I'm sure they will realize their mistake soon."

"Now. Let us move on. I think we have a fleet to check out."

Quickly packing up everything, the party sets out back to Pyte, on their way to Lacynos.

The party passes through Pyte the next day, which is warm and sunny. The road turns to the northwest and soon turns more hilly. In the distance, to the northeast, can be seen mountainous terrain. The road eventually joins up with a river, on the right hand side, that flows northwest. The vegetation here consists of scraggy bushes and brown grass. The rest of the day goes by uneventful. Between Sarah and Urwing, however, everyone has been cured up to full hit points
