CRASH
Captain's Log, Stardate 4594.9: We are orbiting Taurus II where a very large meteor hit the planet two years ago. The dust cloud that that still cover the planet, has, made it impossible of our sensors to get any ready for orbit. So I have order Commander Riker and Science officer Lt. Olson to fly into the cloud to see if they can get better sensor ready.
Inside or the shuttle, Lt. Gary Olson is busy running his hands over his console as Commander William Riker is piloting the shuttle. Riker does not look too happy to be there. Olson give Riker a quick glance as he says, "I need to get a little lower, I'm just barely getting anything!"
Riker just shakes his head no as he say to Lt. Olson, "If I get any lower we can get out and walk!" He turns and looks at Lt. Olson but all he sees is Lt. Olson busy working at his console. Why do I always get the one that think they can live forever?
"Commander we are starting to loss you, if you get much lower we will not be able to help you, if you get into any trouble!" Riker hear Picard as he feels the shuttle hits something and he loss control over it. Riker tries to get the shuttle to head back up but it hits the ground and cartwheels three time and come to rest on it side, with a hole in it right side. Riker looks around and sees that Lt. Olson has been thrown out of his sit and is laying at the back of the shuttle and is out cold.
Riker undoes his safety belt and crawls back to Lt. Olson and checks to see if his is still alive and smiles when he feels him breathing.
"Captain we have lost the shuttle, they must have crashed!" Data says from his console as he runs his finger over the console.
Picard looks long and hard at the main viewer and then turns and looks at Geordi and says, "What do you scanner says?"
"There is just to much interference coming from the planet for my scanner to get anything from here!" Geordi answers as he shakes his head no and then says, "Maybe if I was to take another shuttle, I maybe able to get something."
"I will not risk another shuttle! Unless there is no other way." Picard answers as he looks back at the planet on the viewer.
Counselor Deanna Trio gets up from her seat and walks up to Picard and says, "Lt. Olson has two young kids, they will need to be told something. They will be in class for the next three hours."
Picard turns and walks back to his seat and sits down with a hard look on his face as he says, "If we have not heard from Riker or Olson in two hours I will meet with his kids." He sits looking at the viewer as he says to himself, "This is why I do not like having families on Starship, having to tell families bad news! But it does help with morale."
Inside the shuttle, Riker is sitting next to Lt. Olson as he looks outside of the shuttle and sees that some plants are stilling growing, he looks back at Olson and says, "Why do I get all the one that want to take unnecessarily risks." He gets up and takes a few steps outside of the shuttle and looks up at the sky, but all he can see is the dust cloud caused by the meteor.
He walks back in and sees that Lt. Olson is trying to get up, he bends down and puts his hand on his shoulder as he says, "Don't move Lt. You are hurt pretty bad."
Lt. Olson looks up at Riker with a look of pain as he answers him; "Do you get the license number of that ship that hit us?" He turns to laugh, but it hurts to bad and he falls back down to the floor.
Riker finds a blanket and puts it over Olson as he asks, "I hope you got all the reading you wanted?"
Lt. Olson grabs Riker's arm and he says, "If I do not make it, I want you to tell them, I was thing about them all the way to the end."
Riker smiles down at him and answers him; "You will sees them again, so stop thinking about not seeing them again."
"They are in a play tonight, I was so looking forward to seeing them." Lt. Olson says as he gives Riker a little smile. "I hope the captain does not use the word Missing when he tells them I missing."
"Why, that is what we are." Riker asks as he starts to stand back up.
"My wife was listed as Missing at Wolf 359." Lt. Olson answers him with a tried look on his face.
"I'm sure they will understand that you cannot make it today." Riker answers as he thinks he hears a loud animal noise coming from the outside.
Picard and Deanna Troi are walking down a corridor; Picard does not look too happy, as does Deanna. When they come to a door and Troi pushes the doorbell and they hear the door chimes followed by a girl voice, "Come in."
Picard takes a deep breath and then Picard enters the cabin followed by Deanna, once inside of the cabin they see a young boy about fourteen and a little younger girl about twelve putting on costumes that look a like trees. The little girl sees them and drops part of her costume and puts her hand over her mouth as she takes a step back.
The boy gives his sister a quick look and then asks, "Is he died?" He reaches over and takes hold of her right hand.
"No his is missing, on the planet he was scanning." Picard answers as he starts to take a step towards them.
The little girl eyes get real big, as she shouts "NO" She turns and start to run into a bedroom but runs into a female Lt. who is walking out of the bedroom, carry more of their costumes.
Deanna starts to follow the little girl but stop when she sees the boy move in front of her as he says, "What do you mean he is missing?"
The female Lt. Eyes get real big as she says, "O my god, not again." She covers her mouth as she turns a little bit white.
Picard puts his hand on the boy's shoulder as he says, "Your father's shuttle we believe has crashed on the Taurus II."
The boy looks up at the female standing nexus to him as he says, "I cannot do the play tonight." He wipes a tear off his chin as he starts to head towards a sofa and sits down on it as he covers his eyes.
They all hear the little girl crying in the bedroom and Deanna looks at the female Lt. and says, "Can you stay with them, Mary?"
She looks at the young boy and answers her, "You do not have to asks, I will stay with them till you find their father."
"We will find him, son." Picard answers as he starts to turn to leave the room but the boy asks, "Like you did with our mother?" Picard just stands with his back to the boy, but does not answer him as he exits the cabin.
Deanna just looks at the boy and then at Mary and says, "I need to asks you some questions."
Mary nods her head yes as she looks over her shoulder and then says, "I love these kids as if they were my own."
The boy looks up and asks, "Aunt Mary what are we going to do if they cannot find daddy?"
Mary move over and knees down in front of him and answers him, "They will find him! You have to be strong Paul, for Jean's sake."
Paul looks up with a tear in his eye as he answers her, "I will try."
"Jean needs you right now." Mary says as she helps Paul up and then watches him slowly walk into the bedroom. Mary then looks at Deanna with a very mean look as she says, "I want the truth, will they find him?"
Deanna walks up to her and puts her arm on hers and answers her, "They are doing everything they can to find them."
She leads Mary over to the sofa and they both sit down and Deanna asks, "How good a friend are you of Lt. Olson?"
Mary looks down at her hands as she answers her, "He was married to my big sister, before they got married I had a very big crush on him." Some tears starts to come down her chin as she says, "When she was reported Missing at Wolf 359, I almost died!"
Deanna puts her hands on top of Mary's as she asks, "Is that why Jean got so mad when the captain said Missing?"
Mary nods her head yes as more tears start to come down her face, she turns and looks at Deanna and says, "I think Gary was going to asks me to marry him today. I have never stopped loving him."
Deanna gives her a little smile as she says, "I will keep you posted as to how the search is going." Deanna gets up and says, "I think they both need you right now." She nods her head towards the bedroom.
Riker is busy trying to cover the shuttle with branches that he found near the shuttle, he stops and looks around to see if any of the animals that he had heard early were coming closer to the down shuttle. When he does not see anything he makes his way back to the shuttle just in time to sees Lt. Olson trying to get out of the shuttle.
"What do you think you are doing Lt.?" Riker shouts as he grabs Olson and pulls him back inside of the shuttle.
"I just want to help is all." Olson answers as he tries to stand up, but he cannot stand, he looks at Riker and says, "I have to get back to my kids."
"We have to stay inside of the shuttle, there is something out there and what every it is its big."
"The last reading I got show that there was life still here. It looks like the meteor did not wipe out the life that was here." Olson answers as he closes he eyes and sits down next to the hole in the shuttle.
Riker sits down next to him and asks, "Tell me a little bit about your self Lt.? It looks like we maybe here for a little bit." He sits so he can keep an eye on what is going on outside of the shuttle.
Olson opens his eyes and smiles and he answers him, "Will I have the two best kids on the ship and I was going to asks their aunt to marry me tonight."
"What's her name, I may have gone out with her?" Riker asks as a big smile comes over his face.
Olson gives him a little laugh as he answers him, "Her name is Lt. Mary Jones and you tried, but she turn you down." Olson tries to laugh but it hurts to bad, so he just looks at Riker, "I was married to her older sister for nine years, till she reported Missing at Wolf 359." He wipes a tear off away from his eyes as he looks at his heads and says, "Jean still thinks that someday she will be found, but now one has ever been found from the Tolstoy."
Riker smiles at Olson as he says to himself, "Now I know why she would not share a drink with me, she was in love with him." They hear a load noise as Riker tries to sees where it was coming from. He looks at Olson and says, The last ship that visited here lost two crew member to some very large creatures."
Riker sits back down and asks, "Are your kids going to follow in your foot steps?"
"Paul wants to be a doctor just like his mother was, Jean on the other hand hates space and keep telling me we should live on a planet were its safe. She wants to be a botanist, she loves flowers."
Deanna walks onto the bridge and sees that both Data and Geordi are busy working together at one of the console on the back of the bridge. She walks over to them and quietly asks, "Have you got anything yet?"
Geordi gives her a quick glance as he answers her, "We my have something, but its going to take a little bit more time before we know for sure."
Deanna gives him a small pat on the back as she says, "Keep looking, you have two young kids that are counting on you." She turns and walks down to her place on the bridge and sits down and looks at Picard and says, "Did you know that Lt. Olson wife was reported Missing at Wolf 359?"
Picard does not take his eyes off the main viewer was he answers her, "Yes, they made a mistake when they list her as Missing, she dead!" He turns and gives her a cold look as he says, "No one survived on her ship."
"I should have not said Missing, but I did not know what else to say." Picard says as he looks down at his hands and says, "I wish things had work out different."
"Did you know that Lt. Jones was Lt. Olson sister in-law?" Deanna asks as she leans back in her seat and looks at the planet on the main viewer.
Picard just looks at the planet for a few seconds and then says, "No, I did not know that."
"I think she is in love with him." Deanna says with a little smile.
Picard turns and looks at her and says, "Lets hope we find out if that is true."
Mary walks into the bedroom and sees both Paul and Jean sitting on a bed, Jean looks like she has been crying. She looks up at Mary and says, "Will we ever sees daddy again?"
Mary walks up to them and sits down next to Jean and takes her hand and says, "I pray that we do. Everyone is doing something to help them find your father and commander Riker."
"How long are they going to look, before they give up, like they did with mom?" Paul asks he gets up and starts to pass around the room.
"Paul sit down, you are not making this any easier on yourself!" Mary says as she looks at Jean with a little smile and tells her, "I think your daddy was going to asks me to marry him tonight."
Jean looks up at Mary and says, "I would now that is what he was going to asks you, he loves you."
"He asks us if it was OK with us if he married you." Paul says as he sits down next to Mary and puts his head on her shoulder as he starts to cry.
Mary puts her arms around both of them as she says, "I would like nothing better then to join your family."
Geordi turns and smiles at Data and then turns and looks down at Picard and says, "We may have found a way to find them, but it will take time."
Picard and Deanna both stand up and head up to them as he asks, "What do you have?"
"We have found what can best be called a hole in the cloud around the planet." Data answers as he shows them, the screen.
"Can we fly down throw this hold to find them?" Picard asks as he looks closer at her screen.
"No it's too small and its moving around the planet, but we can scan the surface. Our scanner have already scan the planet and have found that there is life down there." Geordi answers as he pushes some buttons on the console to show what they have scanned so far.
Picard frowns as he sees what they had scan and says, "So the meteor did not wipe out life on Taurus II."
"They maybe lot of trouble, if these creatures get to them, before we do." Geordi says as he looks down at the creatures on the screen.
"I want you to tie the scanner into the transporter and as soon as you get a lock on them, I want them out of there!" Picard says as looks at Geordi and then at Data.
"We are already on it. But it not going to be ease, we may beam up a baby creature." Geordi answers as he sits down and starts to run his hands over the console.
Riker is looking outside of the shuttle as Olson is trying to work on the shuttle radio. He looks at Riker and says, "It hopeless, there's no power left to run the radio!"
Without turning around Riker says, "What is every out there is starting to get closer to us."
"That is not good, from what I have heard about these creatures is that they are about five meters tall and very deadly!" Olson answers as he goes back to working on the radio again.
Just as Riker moves away from the opening in the shuttle a branch lands near the hole as the shuttle start to shack and Riker goes flying up against the far wall with his shoulder. Olson start to move towards him as he feels the transporter beam beginning surrounding him.
"We have them!" Geordi says as he turns to face Picard and Deanna. They are both out of their seats before he is even done specking.
"Send them straight to sickbay they maybe hurt!" Picard says as they enter the turbolift.
"Captain slow down, if they are hurt you will only be in the way." Deanna says as they enter the turbolift together.
Picard shows her a little smile as he says, "Your tell me that you do not want to find out as soon as possible if the Lt. Olson kids are orphans?"
Deanna just looks forward as she answers him with a smile, "There not, they're both alive."
Picard and Deanna enter sickbay and see Nurse Ogawa running a medical scanner over Riker and Crusher doing the same to Lt. Olson. Picard walks over to Riker and asks, "How are you doing number one?"
"I do not think I will be playing any tennis for a few days." Riker answers as he starts to get off the bio-bed.
Ogawa reaches up and puts her hand on his shoulder as she says, "I'm not done with you, yet Commander!"
"What happen Number one?" Picard as he looks over towards where Lt. Olson is laying.
"Riker give Olson a quick glance as he answers him, "We got a little too close and Lt. Olson was not strip in, Captain."
Riker sits back down and gives her a little smile as he tells her, "Yes mother." Ogawa give him a disgustedly looks as she runs the scanner over him again.
Picard and Deanna give him a little laugh as they head towards Crusher and Olson, "Who is he doctor?" Picard asks as he moves next to Crusher and looks down at Olson who is just laying on the bio-bed with his eyes closed, looking a little bit white.
Picard looks down at him and says, "Deanna you had better get his kids!"
Inside of Lt. Olson cabin, Mary and the kids are sitting at a table picking at their breakfast as they hear the door chimes. Mary looks towards the door and says, "Come in."
Deanna walks in with a big smile, as she walks in she says, "We found him and he's alive!"
Both kids jump up and run towards Deanna and put their arms around him as Mary stands up and asks, "Is he OK?"
Deanna looks down at the two kids and says, "He is hurt, you all had better come to sickbay."
Paul steps back with a hurt look in his eyes as he asks, "How bad?"
"Let's go to sickbay and Dr. Crusher can fill you in better then I can." Deanna answers as she reaches out to take Jean's hand. She looks at Mary who is still standing next to the table, biting her lower lip. "I think you had better come to, after all you are a nurse and I think he is going to need one."
When they enter sickbay they see Riker getting off his bio-bed and heading towards the exit. He stops and looks over his shoulder as he says, "I think he going to make it."
Just the Crusher comes out of her office and says, "Just where do you think you are going?" She puts her hands on her hips and stares at Riker.
Riker raise his arm as he says, "See it all better."
Crusher just points too the bio-bed as she says, "You can leave when I says so, not a minute before!" Riker looks at Deanna and then jumps back up onto the bio-bed and lays down as he puts his hands behind his head and starts to whistling.
She smiles at the kids and Mary and says, "He right over here." She holds her hand off to the side towards a bio-bed off to the side.
Jean almost runs over to her father and grabs his right hand as she looks at Crusher and says, "Is he hurt real bad?"
"Nothing that a few days in bed will not fixes." She looks at Mary and gives her a little wick. "He has a bad concussion and some bumps and bruises, but he will live."
Mary puts her hand on Jean's shoulder as she looks at Crusher and says, "I'll sees that he gets all the rest he need!"
"I was hoping you would says that." Crusher answers her as she gives Deanna a big smile.
Paul moves next to his sister and looks at Mary and says, "I now just the place to do it too."
The next day Lt. Olson opens his eyes and the first thing he sees is Mary standing over him with a scanner in her hand. "Hello , beautiful. How long have I been here?"
"One day." She grabs his hand as tears start to run down her face. "You gave your kids and me a good scare."
"Not as scared as I was, all I could think about was the kids and you." He looks around sickbay and asks, "Where are they?"
Mary raises his hand and give it a little kiss as she answers him, "In school, they will be here as soon as school is out." She looks around sickbay and asks, "Paul said that you were going to ask me to marry you, is that true?"
Olson raise his hand and puts it onto of hers as she says, "Yes, I love you."
"Is it because I looks so much like my big sister?" Mary asks as more tears come down her face.
Olson gives her a little laugh as he answers her, "You do not looks like Beth, she was a little bit heavier then you and she was a red head." A tear comes out of his right eyes as he says, "Not a do goes by that I do not think about her, but she would have wanted me to get on with my life."
"Then I will marry you." She bends down and gives him a little kiss and then says, "Last night we moved all of my things into your cabin."
Riker walks onto the bridge followed by Crusher, she looks at Picard and says, and "I'm releasing this from sickbay he is driving us all mad with his whistling!"
Riker walks down to his seat and sits down and says, "You're just mad that you cannot whistle as good as I can."
"Captain we have just finish our scans and it looks like the planet is going to survive after all." Geordi says from the back of the bridge with a big smile.
Just then Deanna walks onto the bridge with a very big smile, she walks down till she is standing in front of Picard and then says, "I have been asks if you would marry Lt. Olson and Lt. Jones later today?"
"Only if he gets his report in first! That is one job I like about being captain." Picard answers as he turns to the helm man and says, "Ensign Smith, takes us out of orbit, warp five."
