RUNAWAY
Major Kira waves to Chief Miles O'Brien as they exits a turbolift as she says, "Good night Chief, give Keiko and the kids a hug for me."
O'Brien waves back as he says, "She is use to me working long hours, thou Molly does not understand why. She like to have me tuck her in at night."
"I like it when my father tuck me in at night too." Kira answers as she starts to war towards Quark's bar.
She sees that Quark is starting to close up for the night as she nears the bar, Quark turns around after he has finish locking up. He stops when he see her and points to a young girl of about eleven years old sitting next to a airlock on a small bag as he says, "Major that girl has been there for the last three hours, I know its not my business but it is late."
Kira looks at the young girl and turns and walks over to her, followed by Quark. When she sees them walking towards them, she picks up the bag she was sitting on and gets up as she looks around her. All at once she starts to runaway from them. Kira takes off after her as she shouts, "Hi all I want to do is talk to you."
The young girl looks over her shoulder as she is running, so she does not see Constable Odo coming out of his office and she runs right into him. They both fall to the floor, where Odo puts his hand on her shoulder so as to hold her down. He looks up at Kira and asks, "What has she done?" He gets up slowly as he keeps his hand on her shoulder and pulls her up.
The young girl looks up at Odo and says, "Don't eat me please!" With a look of terror in her eyes, as she tries to get away form him.
Odo looks down at her and says, "Why would I want to eat you?" He looks up at Kira with a little smile who is looking down at her too, with a puzzled look on her face.
The young girl looks up at Odo and shouts; "You had better let me go or my father will hurt you!" She tries to pull herself free again.
Kira knees down a little bit and says, "Tell us where your father is and we will take you to him."
"He is a Star Fleet officer and his name is Lt. John Bell, so my mother said." She answers as she keeps trying to break free of Odo grip.
Kira looks at Odo and then back down at the young girl and asks in a quite voice, "What is your name? Your father has never mention that he has a daughter."
"Mary Smith, my mother never told him about me." She starts to cry as she starts to falls to floor as she puts a hand to her face.
Kira reaches out and takes her hand and looks at Odo as she says, "I will take you to your father Mary."
Quark who has been standing behind Kira grabs her shirt and says, "Major, may I have a work with you?"
Kira turns and gives Quark a mean look as she asks, "Can't it wait till tomorrow?"
Quark looks at Kira and then at Kira and answers, "I think you will want to hear what I have to says."
She lets go of Mary's hand and takes a few steps away and put her hands on her hips as she says, "What is it Quark?"
Quark gives Mary a quick look and then says, "Lt. John Bell was in my bar about a hour ago, to get a bottle of Gamzain wine. There was a female Bajoran with him."
Kira takes a deep breath and turns and walks back to Mary and Odo and puts her hand out and says, "I will take you to your father now."
Odo lets her go as he says, "I do not eat little girls." He watches as she walks away as he walks up next to Quark.
Quark looks up at Odo and says, "Lt. Smith is in for a surprise."
Kira and Mary are walking down a long corridor when she looks up at Kira and asks, "Is my father married?"
Kira looks down at Mary and answers, "No he is not married, but he is seeing someone." They take a few more steps and she adds, "Your father is a good man, he just finish helping Bajor with a big Dam project."
They come to a door and Kira hits the doorbell and from inside they hear a male voice asks, "Who is it?"
Kira glaces down at Mary and answers, "Major Kira, I need to sees you right now."
The door opens to show a young man with his uniform top off, he has a big smile on his face as takes a step out of his cabin. "What can I do for you Major?"
Kira puts her right hand on Mary's shoulder with a frown on her faces as she says, "Mary here says that you are her father."
Lt. John Bell looks down at Mary and slowly drops to one knee and with a look of shock on his face asks, "What is your mother name?"
Mary wipes a tear off his chin as she answers, Sue Smith."
John looks down at the floor as he pulls Mary close as he asks, "Where is your mother?" He puts both of his arms around her, as a tear starts to come out of his eyes.
Mary puts her arms around him as she says, "Grandfather killed her, when she told him that she was taking me to you."
John looks up at Kira and says, "I will need to talk to Odo and the Captain as soon as possible." John reaches down and takes Mary's bag and leads her into his cabin.
Kira stand there for a few seconds and then starts to walk away as she says to herself, "That poor girl."
John leads Mary into his cabin were they both see a young Bajoran woman sitting on the sofa with her shoes off. John looks down at Mary and says, "Kean this is my daughter Mary."
Kean gets up off the sofa and walks over to them and knees down and says, "Hi Mary."
John leans down and asks, "Are you hunger, Mary?"
"Yes I ran out of credits yesterday morning." Mary answers as she looks up at her father.
"Well here you do not need credits to eat." Kean says as she takes Mary's hand and starts to lead her towards the replicator.
John bends down and picks up Mary's bag and says, "I will put this in my bedroom, you can sleep in there tonight and I will sleep out here."
Mary turns and grabs her bag with a look of horror on her face as she says, "I will take care of this!"
Before John can says anything, they hear the door chines and he says, "Come in." In walks Captain Sisko, Odo followed by Major Kira.
"You wanted to see us Lt.." Sisko asks as he looks down at Mary holding very tight to onto her bag.
John takes a few steps away from Mary and Kean and says, "Mary is my daughter I did not know I had. Her grandfather may come looking for her."
"Why would he come looking for her?" Odo asks as he watches Mary and Kean walk over to the replicator.
She witness her mother's murder!" John takes a deep breath and then adds, "When I was going to the Academy I went home to asks Mary's mother to marry me. I was meet at the gate my her father and two brother and was beaten real bad."
"Not nice people I take it?" Sisko says as he watches Mary using her free hand to carry a plate of food over to the kitchen table and sit down.
John looks down at the floor and says, "They would not stop at anything to get what they want, even murder."
"I will have my people keep an eye out for them, but it will not be easy. With people coming and going all the time." Odo answers as he turns to leave John cabin, but stop and gives Mary one more look and then leaves.
Kean how is standing next to Mary as she eats, put her hand on Mary's back, she looks up at John and says, "Come here, dear."
John quickly walks over to Kean and says, "Is something wrong?" With a worried look on his face as he looks down at Mary, who is busy eating.
Kean looks down at Mary and says, "Feel her back." With a concern look on her face as she looks up at John.
John runs his hand up and down her back, he the looks at Sisko and says, "I need to have Dr. Bashir look at her."
Sisko and Kira both move up next to the table and Sisko asks, "Is something wrong with her?"
"I just want to have Bashir see if anything is wrong with her back." John answers as Mary looks up at Sisko and says, "I fell down a lot."
A half-hour latter they are in Dr. Bashir office and Bashir is running his medical scanner over Mary's back as John and Kean are standing next to him, Kean has her hands over her mouth. She looks at John and runs out of the office. John turns away and walks over to Sisko and says, "They use a whip on her!"
Sisko looks over at Mary and asks, "Why would anyone use a whip on her?"
John looks down at his hands and answers, "It's what they on people they do not like, they use it on me a few times."
"But she is their granddaughter!" Kira says as she moves up next to them with a very mean look on her face.
Bashir looks up from Mary's back and says, "Her back will be a little sore, but the scars are gone."
John walks up to Mary and takes one of her hands and says, "If anyone every help you to fall down again, you are to find the first security officer and tell them." He looks at Sisko and adds, "NO one is allowed to help anyone to fall down."
Mary looks up at him and says, "Yes father."
John helps Mary off the bio-bed and says, "I think you should get some sleep, because tomorrow I will have Kean show you around the station, while I finish help Chief O'Brien." He takes her by the hand and leaves the office.
Bashir walks over to Sisko and Kira and says, "I all of my life I have never seen something like that!"
"I would like to get my hands on the person who did that too Mary." Kira says as she walks out of the office, without looking at either man.
John and Mary exited the office where they see Kean leaning up against a wall with both of her hands over her face.
John puts his hand around her and says, "Its ok, it made me sick too." He looks down at Mary and adds, "I would like you to spend the night with us."
Kean drops her hands and everyone can see that she has been crying, she looks down at Mary and asks, "Would you like me to stay with you tonight?"
Mary looks up at Kean and then at her father and answers, "I guess it would be OK."
"Good then it settled I will sleep on the sofa and you two will share the bed." John answers as he reaches out to take Kean hand.
A few minutes later in John's bedroom Mary is sitting on the bed with her bag in her lap as she looks at Kean who is sitting next to her. Mary looks down at her bag and says, "Everything I own is in this bag, here."
Kean puts her right arm around Mary and says "If you like, tomorrow I will take you shopping?"
Mary looks up at Kean and asks, "Is father rich?"
"No Star Fleet officer is rich, if you are talking about money." Kean answers, as she smiles at Mary and adds, " But I think your father is rich in other ways."
Mary smiles back at her as she starts to open her bag and pulls out a picture of a tried looking woman and says, "This is the only picture I have of my mother." She looks at it as a tear starts to move down her chin. She then pulls out a beautiful red dress.
Kean looks at the Picture with a heavy heath and says, "She is very pretty, I can see why your father loved her." She puts the picture on the night stand and then looks at the dress and says, "You will have to wear that tomorrow, when we go shopping/"
Mary starts to cry as she says, "That is everything that I own, besides what I'm wearing."
Kean quickly puts her arms around Mary as she says, "I will help you to get more clothes tomorrow, just you wait and see."
Throw tear full eyes Mary asks, "Are you going to marry my father?"
"My father is coming here tomorrow so your father can asks him for my hand." Kean answers with a big smile. "But I will marry him anyway." She adds as she starts to get up as she carries the dress over to a closet and hangs it up.
In the morning Mary wakes up and sees that she is all alone in the bedroom, but she hears voices coming from the other room. She climbs out of the bed and goes over to the closet and takes out her dress and puts in on and then turns and walks out of the bedroom. When Mary exits the bedroom she see Kean and another woman who has spots on her face drinking coffee together.
Kean smiles at the sight of Mary and says, "Mary this is Lt. Dax."
Mary walks up to the table and says, "Hi." She looks around the room and then asks, "Where is my father?"
"He left to help Chief O'Brien so he could spend the day with you." Kean answers as she takes a drink of coffee, she then says, "Why don't you eat your breakfast and then we will start shopping."
"Kean has asks me to help you two with your shopping and to tell you a little bit about your father." Dax says with a little smile.
Mary walks over to the replicator and orders some food as she asks, "What will happen if my grandfather show up here?" She turns and looks at them with a worried look on her face.
"Let's just says, that it would not be very good for them." Dax answers as she looks at Kean and then at Mary.
Mean while three men wearing heavy coats exits an airlock and start to slowly look around the promenade. The older one moves over to the side followed by the two young ones. He pulls them close and says, "If she is here, we must find here and get her off this station before she can talk!"
"This is a big station, she could be anywhere." One of the young one answers as he looks around.
The old man looks around and answers, "We will spite up and start to look around, I want her found fast!"
The two young men walk away from the old man, one heads towards Quark's while the other one starts to look in some of the shops. The one that goes into Quark's looks around the bar and sees Quark at the bar and slowly walks up to him and says, "Have you seen a little girl about eleven around here?"
Quark looks up at the young man, not liking this human at all as he answers, "What do I look like a information center?"
The young man reaches down and grabs Quark by the shirt front and shouts, "Just answers my question you toad!"
From off the side a hand is put on the young man as someone says, "Let him go."
The young man turns and sees a Klingon wearing a Star Fleet uniform, he lets go of Quark as he says, "Just who are you?"
"Lt. Worf, who are you?" Worf asks as he moves a little bit closer, with a frown on his face, till they are face to face.
The young man looks at Worf with a scared look and answers, "Joe Smith, I'm looking for my niece, she got lost here." Joe answers as he pushes Worf's hands off of himself and backs away from Worf.
"How old is your niece?" Worf answers as she moves a bit closer to Joel again.
"She is eleven years old, I have to find her before our ship leaves." Joe answers as he backs up a little more.
"Will that settle that, we do not allow anyone that young in here!" Quark answers as he smiles up at Joe and gives Worf a quick look.
Joe gives them both a very mean look and turns and starts to leave, but not before he says, "You had better be telling the truth!"
Quark leans forwards over the bar and quietly whispers, "Lt. Smith's daughter last name is Smith."
Worf turns and towards where Joe had gone with a very mean look on his face and says, "I had better find him and keep my eyes on him!"
Quark watches Worf leave as he says to himself, "If he is that little girl's uncle I would not like to be in his shoes."
Joe exits Quark's and soon meets up with his father who is looking in one of the shops, Joe moves up next to his father and says, "I do not like this place, there are way to may alien here."
"You think the Federation would keep them off there station." The old man answers as he looks around the Promenade.
Mary, Kean and Dax are inside of Garak's shop as Garak is measuring Kean as he says, "I have three dress that would fix you right now and two other outfits that will fix you."
"How many can I get?" Mary asks as she looks up at Kean with a big smile and big eyes.
Both Kean and Dax laugh as Kean answers, "If you like them, you can take them all."
"One for each day of the week sound about right to me." Dax adds as moves closer to Mary and bends over and adds, "You are going to have every young boy here chasing you, after they see you wearing these dress."
Mary looks down at the floor as she says, "Grandfather would never let me be with other kids."
Kean bends down and puts her arms around Mary as she says, "Here you can have all the friends you want!"
"This is a dream come true, grandfather only would let mom buy used clothes for me and now being able to have friends too." Mary says as she looks up at Dax."
"You will never find any use clothes in my shop." Garak says as he walks over to counter and picks up some cloth.
"I would like to order two more dress and two other outfits two." Mary says as she walks over to Kean and asks, "I would like to get something to drink."
"How would you like some Tarkalean tea?" Kean asks with a big smile on her face as she looks turns and looks at Dax.
"Maybe she would rather have a Golp-on-a-stick." Dax says with a big smile too.
Mary looks up at them and asks, "What is that?"
Dax gives a little laugh as she answers, "They are some very sweet things that I think you would love." She holds her hand out of Mary.
Mary takes Dax's hand as she looks up at Kean and says, "I think I'm going to like it here." With a big grin on her face as they leave Garak's whom is smiling at them.
Outside of Garak's shop they walk over to one of the Kiosk and Kean tells the man behind the counter, "Three Golp-on-a-stick please."
The man hands them three, Golp-on-a-stick as he says, "Here you go, enjoy yourself."
Mary starts to lick it as they start to walk towards Quark's, Dax takes a lick of her as she asks, "I hear your father is coming to the station for to see you?"
Kean turns a little red as she answers, "Yes he is coming to see John."
Dax gives a little laugh as she says, "Have you picked a date yet?" She looks down at Mary who is looking around at the people as she is licking her Golp-on-a-stick.
Mary takes a few steps away from the two women as she looks around at the entire different aliens that are walking around. She looks up at the upper level as she says to herself, "I cannot believe that all these different aliens I'm seeing!" She looks down and sees three men walking towards them, the men have big smiles on their faces. Mary drops her Golp-on-a-stick as she backs up towards Kean with a look of shock on her face.
Paul and O'Brien are exiting a turbolift as Paul says, "Finding out that I'm a father is a big shock to me. You had nine months to get ready for your daughter."
O'Brien puts his hand on Paul's back as he answers, "You will be just fine, a man that can get over two hundred Bajoran to work together on a Dam project can do anything."
Paul gives a little laugh as he answers, "That was easy, but she has been hurt some much and I'm not sure she even like me?"
"I sometimes wonder the same thing about Molly." O'Brien answers, just as they hear a loud scream coming from up ahead of them.
Both men take off on a run, pushing people out of there way was they run throw the Promenade, all at once they break into a open area where they see two men knocking down Kean as a three and older man is pulling Mary away. Dax is laying on the floor up against the wall out cold with a cut over her right eye.
Worf breaks into the open area at about the same time as he says, "Alright let her go, you are all under arrest!"
Odo move up behind him and adds, "You hear the man, release the girl."
The older man pushes Mary towards one of the other men who grabs her and puts his hand over her mouth as the older man says, "We are leaving with my granddaughter and no one is going to stop us!" He stands in front of Mary and as they start to move towards Worf and Odo.
John quickly moves up next to Worf and says, "She is not going anywhere Sam! She is going to live with me from now on."
The older man stop and stares at John and then give a loud laugh as he points at John and says, "Look boys it the farm boy, all dress up!"
Both boy laughs as one holding Mary says, "Pa I think had better get out of here!" He looks around at all the people who are slowly starting to move closer.
The other one pulls out a knife and toss it from one hand to the other as he says, "Let me teach him what it mean to get us mad!"
Sam takes a step back till his is right next to Mary and answers, "Go ahead Joe, we should have done this years ago." He grabs Mary's hand real hard as he adds, "Watch what Joe is going to do to your father."
As Joe slowly moves toward John, Worf tries to move in front of John but John puts his hand on Worf's hand as he says, "It's OK Lt. I have been waiting for this for a very long time." He moves a step closer to Joe and says, "You had better quit while you are still alive!"
"You are the one that is going to die today, something we should have done a long time ago." Joe answers with a big grin as he holds the knife out towards John.
John just shakes his head no as he slowly move toward Joe with his hands held out in front of him, all at once Joe jumps forward and John grabs his knife hand and they both fall to the floor with John on top of Joe. John jumps up and looks down at Joe who is not moving as a small pool of blood forms under his body. John uses his toe to turn Joe and over and when he does, everyone sees Joe's knife sticking his stomach.
Sam looks down at his son and shouts, "You MURDER my son!" He talks a step forward with fire in his eyes.
John looks at Sam and answers, "No this is your own fault." He looks down at Joe and adds, "All I did was defend myself."
Sam looks at John with a wild look in his eyes as he opens his coat and pulls out a long whip and says, "I will teach you to hurt one of my sons!" He moves the whip back and then sends it flying towards John and it wraps around John's waist.
John grabs then the whipcord with both hands and pulls it out of Sam hands and pulls the rest of it up to him, he looks at the whip in his hands. John turns towards Odo and throws the whip to him as he says, "Here add this to your collect of weapons." John then turns and looks over at Mary who eyes are real big as she looks down at Joe's body. He then turns and looks at Sam and says, "Give it up before anyone else get hurt."
"I do not need my whip to deal with the likes of you!" Sam answers as he lower his head and runs towards John.
John just move a little to the side and when Sam is right up to him, he throws his right fist into Sam's stomach and Sam bends over and drops to his knees. John grabs him by the hair and bends his head back as he says, "That was for Mary, this is for me!" He then throws his left hand into Sam's jaw and Sam's head snaps back and he full to the floor out cold.
John looks down at Sam and then slowly turns and looks at the other man and says, "Let her go Peter, before you get hurt too!"
Peter is busy looking around the room with a very scared look on his face as he sees people starting to move in on him as he answers John, "Everyone stay back or I will kill her, I promise." He slowly starts to back up as he looks down at his father and shouts, "Get up pa!" All at once he throws Mary at John and turns and starts to run towards an air lock but runs into a fist.
An old Bajoran looks down at Peter as he shakes his fist a little, he looks up at John and sees that he has both of his arms around Mary and is crying. He then looks over and sees that Kean is helping Dax up whom is holding her head. He looks back down at Peter and says, "You had better not have hurt my daughter?" But Peter does not answer because he is out cold.
Kean hears him and turns around and says, "Daddy!" She runs over to him and puts her arms around him and says, "I'm sure glad you are here." With tears coming down her chin she turns and looks at Paul and Mary and says, "Daddy I would you to meet Lt. Paul Smith and his daughter Mary."
The old man looks down at Paul and Mary and then at the two men, who are being help up, he then looks back at Paul and Mary and smile as he says, "I'm glad I was able to help you."
Paul stands up and says, "I would like to marry your daughter sir." He pulls Mary closer as he smiles at Kean and her father.
He looks at Paul and then at Kean and asks, "Before I say, Yes or No, I would like to know what was going on here?"
Paul looks turns and watches Odo and his men taking Sam and his son away, he slowly turns back to his and answers, "It's a long story sir and I will tell you over a cup of coffee."
Later the next day Mary is walking towards Odo's office holding the hand of Kean father, as they near Odo office she stops and looks up at him and says, "I have to do this."
Kean father nods his head yes as he says, "I too have a few things to tell them too."
Mary walks up to the door's to Odo office and they open and she enters his office, once inside she walks up to Odo's desk and says, "I would like to see my grandfather."
Odo looks up at her and answers, "I just Finnish feeding them, I guess you can see them." He gets up and walks around his desk and heads towards the cells in back.
Mary takes a deep breathes and follows Odo into the cellblock, she sees both her grandfather and uncle setting in one of the cell. Mary walks right up to the cell they are in and says, "I just came too say that I never what to ever see you again!"
She turns and starts to head back out, but Sam stands up and shouts at her, "You have not seen the last of me, I will find you and that farm boy of a father of yours. I will make you both pay for what you have done to my family."
Mary stops in her tracks and turns around with fire in her eyes as she answers, "MY father is a Star Fleet officer, he may have been a farm boy at one time. But so were some of the greatest Star Fleet officer were at one time farmers."
Sam just shakes his head no as he give a little laugh and says, "Your father is a no body, when my friends find out that I'm in jail they will come and get me out, in no time."
Now it's Mary's turn to laugh as she answers, "Your friends do not care about you, now that you are in not on Draco!"
Peter walks up next to Sam and shouts, "You just wait and see, they will come!"
"Just so you now, my father marry Kean this morning and they are honeymoon on Bajor for a week, then we are going to his next assignment." With a proud look on her face, she turns and walks out of the cell, she walks outside where she sees, Kean's father is talking to Sisko.
Sisko sees her and they both walk over to her where Sisko says, "I was just tell Minister Regis that the people of Draco have, what your Grandfather and Uncle once they have serve their time on Bajor."
Minister Regis smiles down at Mary and says, "I think I will go and tell our friends that they are going to be with us for a while."
Mary watches Minister Regis walk into the cellblock and then she looks up at Sisko and says, "What did you mean that they want my grandfather and uncle when the Bajoran are done with them?"
Sisko smiles down at Mary and answers, "It looks like the people of Draco have finely found some people who will stand up to your grandfather and uncle. There even was someone who sew your grandfather kill your mother."
Mary looks down at the floor as she says, "There are a few years late."
Sisko puts his hand on her shoulder as he answers, "Yes they are."
Regis walks into the cellblock and walks up to their cell, he just stares at them as he says, "You two are two of the worst I have ever come across."
Sam just stares back at him as he says, "Just who are you?"
"I'm the head of Bajor's Minister of Justice." Regis answers with a big smile as he adds, "With all the charge against you two, you will be with us for a long time. Then you are going back to Draco to face more charges. But that will not be for at least thirty years"
Sam with a wild looks charge towards Regis, but hits the force field he takes a step back and says, "You cannot put us in jail for thirty years!"
"If you are real good you will get out in twenty years, but I do not think you will be very good." Regis answers with a big smile, he starts to turn to leave but stops and adds, "You are to be token to Bajor for your trial."
Sam puts his hands on his hips as he asks, "Why are we going to Bajor, this is after all is not a Bajor station, it a federation station!"
"Wrong, this is a Bajoran station, the federation is here because we asks them to come here to help us." Regis answers with a little laugh of his own.
Sam's mouth drops open as he asks, "What do you what to let us go today?"
Regis just shakes his head no as he answers, "Do not even think about it, you are going to jail and that is final!"
"Everyone has their price, just name yours." Sam says with as looks around the room slowly.
"I'm not for sale." Regis answers as he turns and leaves the cellblock. He stops next to Odo's desk and looks outside at Sisko and Mary as Sisko is pointing things out to Mary. He turns and looks at Odo and says, "Mary has join the biggest family around, she will need all the love she can get."
Odo just nods his head yes as he watches Regis leave his office as he says to himself, "Lt. Smith and Kean will see that she get all the love she needs."
Regis walks up to Sisko and Mary and says, "Would you like to see the warm hole when it opens?"
Mary looks up at Regis with big eyes and answers, "Yes I heard it big and beautify."
"Yes it is and a ship is going throw it in about half hour, everyone should sees it at least once." Regis says with a big smile as he looks at Sisko too.
"Yes, I never get tried of looking at it." Sisko answers as he looks down at Mary and adds, "There will be about six ships going throw it over the next three days."
"If you like we can stay for a few days and watches them, before we head down to Bajor for the celebrate of the Dam your father build getting done." Regis says as he takes Mary hand and they start walking towards one of the windows.
Mary looks up at the two men with a big smile and says to herself, "Mom you can now rest in peace, no one will ever hurt me again."
Up on the upper level Kira and Dax are watching them walk towards the window, Dax looks at Kira and says, "She has seen way to much pain in her short life."
Kira answers her without taking her eyes off them, "Yes she has, but now she will be able to live in peace."
