This section covers stuff that anyone who has been on the list for more than a week will hopefully already know the answers to. But there are newbies (and, good heavens, people not on wraith-l) out there. So here goes.....
1.0) How do you use this FAQ?
Well you read it, ignore any grammatical errors, and assimilate all the information. It's arranged pretty simply, so most any question you have should be pretty easy to find without too much hunting. If you're still clueless, e-mail me.
1.1) What is wraith-l, and how do I join?
Wraith-l is a discussion group conducted over e-mail. It is designed for fans and players of White Wolf's Storytelling Game of Passion and Horror. Mainly we discuss the game, but a healthy bit of Spamming goes on. For more details on the game see section 2, and for more details on Spam, see section 3.
To join wraith-l, send a message to wizards.com Leave the subject line blank. In the body of your message write "subscribe wraith-l (your name)". Do not use a .sig. You should get a reply saying you have successfully joined wraith-l yada...
1.2) What is a storytelling game?
Remember D&D? Um... not really too much like that, no. Storytelling games are sort of a cross between those games of let's pretend you played as a little kid, such as Cops & Robbers, and improvisational theatre. With rules added. Very fun.
1.3) What is Wraith?
Wraith is the 4th in a series of 5 games by White Wolf Publishing. It involves ghost stories and tales of death, damnation and other fun stuff. In it, you can play a member of the Restless Dead, still on earth because of your passions and unfinished business. You and your friends get to weave stories of intrigue, horror, and emotion. It can't be beat, not with a stick.
1.4) What should I get if I want to play Wraith?
First off, you need the main rulebook, big and grey. Whether you get first or second edition is up to you, but I would recommend 2nd over first, not that MY opinion should dictate what you do. You will also probably want the Storyteller's Screen, which comes with a nifty book called Buried Secrets, which includes extra nasty stuff. Fun!
Other handy books are the various Guildbooks, the Heiarchy, the Wraith "Player's Guide," "The Risen," and many others. Just go buy them all, Rich needs the money. ; )
1.5) What are the best books for Wraith?
This is all subjective, one person may completely love a book that someone else thinks is a pile of garbage. I've compiled this list based on posts to the list and my own personal favorites.
*Wraith: the Oblivion: you will propably want 2nd edition
(the hardcover book). You can't play the game without this book.
*Wraith Players Guide: includes Merits & Flaws, new Arcanoi and
some very good peices of fiction.
*Dark Reflections: Spectres- Bwuahahaha! Information on playing
everyones favorite servants of Oblivion, very useful for
Storytellers and players.
*Buried Secrets: (comes with the Storytellers Screen)- includes
quite a bit of informattion that was either too secretive to
be put in the BEAST, or just didn't fit. Includes artifacts,
extra Arcanoi information, tips on Storytelling, more
Antagonists (including Angelics and Demonics), and a sample
setting and story.
