The gnome are a race of magical creatures that have become cursed and defiled. They have been horribly mutated and have the combined features of a small demihuman and an animal. All gnomes belonging to tribes have at least 3 animal features, while thier leaders are either entirely animal or have only one human feature.

Combat: Gnomes always attack with their natural weapons, swords and spears being thought of in their culture as things of darkness. Jaws usually cause 1d6 points of damage, horns and claws 1d4 points of damage, and tails may cause 1-2 points of damage.

Gnomes also have enhanced senses, making it impossible to suprise them on any roll except a 1.

Habitat/Society: The gnomes tend to live exactly like their animal counterparts do. Wolf-gnomes live in packs while cat gnomes are solitary. There have been cases of normally solitary types of creatures living in groups however, and any adventurer should be prepared for a tribe of such creatures as gnome-snakes. The tribes are led by an elite warrior/priest class which has 6 hit dice and cast spells as a 3rd level priest. Once per day they can cast summon 2-24 hit dice worth of the creature they summoned.

Ecology: Ages ago, the first gnomes were created when dwarves intermarried with faeries. These people, like grew rapidly in culture, until the years of the great wars. In order to save themselves from being overrun, they made a pact with an ancient god and were transformed into beast men. The gnomes grew savage and the innate magics they had withered to nothing. They were driven to the extreme and inhospitable regions of the world by the other powerful races, where they lost all of their culture. They soon began to beleive that their true forms were that of animals and thus the humans (and human features) were monstrous.
