The Muse's Notebook

Just ramblings/teasers on story ideas that I intend to use, but may never will. Why did I decide to put this up? Because by doing so it's like I'm giving my word, and therefore I'm obligated to actually write these things someday. ;) If you want to use any of these ideas, feel free to drop me a note. I might not give the idea away, but I promise I'll be nice about it. All feedback welcome, flames will be fed to my Sociology books.

The Cruel God Rules

An X-Men/Witchblade/Yuu Yuu Hakusho/whatever-the-hell-I-can-squeeze-in crossover AND amalgam. Ororo Munroe, Sara Pezzini and Kurama end up in a reality that was born out of a fusion between all existing realities... and I assure you that this is not a natural occurance. Expect to see a current X-enemy leading a very different X-Men -- which includes a half-fae (based on Gargoyles and X-Men) and an amalgam of Rogue and Christine Blaze. And since it involves a fair amount of magic, look out for a trenchcoat-wearing British magus. But don't expect s/he to be unchanged. ;)

My main problem with this story is that it is LONG. I'm not sure that my current writing skill can do it justice, so I guess that this one has to be put on the back burner for a while. But it's my pet idea, and I'll fight to the death for a chance to write it. ;)

R v Grey

You can tell when I've been reading too many Rumpole stories, or at least alongside my Law revisions. ;) I've been wanting to write a story for Alara's Power Swap challenge, and consequently my Muse dumped this one on me. Pete Wisdom sans hot knives, a young barrister not-quite fresh to the Bar, defends a mutant accused of killing her lover. The prosecution is led by none other than Brian Braddock Q.C., and presiding over the trial is... hey, you can't expect me to give EVERYTHING away. *ducks thrown vegetables*

I'm very nervous about writing this, considering that my knowledge of the English legal system is almost strictly limited to Cambridge A-Level Law. Plus, I don't know much about the procedures for a murder trial. I will do research, but it's going to take time (which I can't afford at the moment).

24 Hours

A much earlier idea for the Power Swap challenge, and I can't decide whether to write this one or the one above. In this story's universe, to use an oft-quoted phrase, the line between good and evil is somewhat blurred. Erik Lehnsherr is a scientist with the power to project bioplasmic force field around his body, who dreams a seemingly impossible dream -- homo sapiens and homo sapiens superior living together in peace. Gathering those who would join his cause on Avalon, an asteroid ship, he plans to establish the first human colony on Mars. The story is a "day in the life" look at them, plus a little jaunt to Earth. I planned to write this in a very contemporary scifi-ish style, as opposed to my other stories so far.

Two words: Marvel history. ARGH!!! Especially when it comes to the characters' ages. Researching it is a big pain in the arse, and that's an understatement. I'd love to write this one, but I'll have to get the background ship-shape first.

Pete Wisdom and the Blackguards

Think of a future where the X-Men becomes an internationally recognized superhuman team, and where the relationship between a certain married couple is irreparably broken. Mutants are disappearing all over UK, and it is suspected that Black Air has been resurrected. Unfortunately, due to their legal status the X-Men's hands are tied against direct interference. Enter Pete Wisdom, freelance spy. Investigating the affair with a vampiric friend, he runs into unexpected allies, including a certain red-haired former X-Man.

The big hurdle here is that I have very little knowledge about Intelligence and other clandestine operations. Not to mention the fact that my knowledge of England can be contained in a teacup. Still, this would be a fun story to write...

Check and Balance

The Jono/Yvette story Indigo has been waiting for. ;) The first in a series of short stories, prequels to Hero. Friendship, not romance -- sorry. Takes place during a mission went awry. I've actually started on this one, but stumbled over a writer's block. *glares at Muse*
