SD 90423.2100 EST
Deck 16, Docking bay 1.

After having to rest up for a couple of days at the order of Dr. Ling,
Lt.Cmdr. Alyza was finally back to work. Being a Vulcan, she saw the logic
of resting for a day, but 2 days seemed to be excesive. She obeyed the
Dr., even though order to rest an extra day was illogical. At any rate,
Alyza did not dwell on this issue, as that too would have been illogical.
[NRPG: I think I used the word illogical excesively :-)]

There was no scar to show where she had hit her head, her hair was again
neatly cliped in a pony tail and both she and her uniform were again clean.
She arrived at the docking bay control centre on deck 16. It was there
that she first met the newest addition to DS 101's crew, Ens. Selak. He
looked very much like a Vulcan, perhaps a slight bit more than she herself
did with her Bajoran nose ridges.

Alyza raised her right hand in the traditional Vulcan gesture called the
ta'al and said, "Mene sakkhet ur-seven" which anyone listening with the aid
of a universal translator would have hear as "Live long and prosper".

Selak returned the salute and said "Shal ang tor tich", meaning "Peace and
long life" [NRPG: I made up the word shal, for peace, but the other words
are from
http://www.ludwig.ucl.ac.uk/st/StarTrek/Vulcan/Vulcan1.dic]. He did so a
bit more casually than Alyza would have done.

Alyza then spoke in Federation standard, as it was proper to do so while on
duty. At home with Barak, her adun and t'hy'la (ie, her life-mate and
friend-lover-lifelong companion), Alyza always spoke Vulcan. Vulcan would
be the first language her twins would hear and learn, though they would
also learn Bajoran and Federation standard at an early age.

Alyza suspected that Selek had not master arie'mnu, mastery of passion and
emotion and wondered to what extent he followed Kya'shin, the teaching of
thought over emotion. Alyza, though half Bajoran, followed the Vulcan
teachings and was a master of her passions and emotions. She had not yet
attained Kolinar, the purging of all emotions, however. It seemed that
these 2 half-Vulcans were very different indeed. [NRPG: just so that we
all know that Alyza is very much in control of her emotions, and not the
same as Selek]

[NRPG:Shaun, anything to add here?]

"Ens., where is the HEC'NU?"

"Air lock 2" answered Selek

Without a thank you, which she did not think necessary to say to another
Vulcan, different though he was, she went to air lock 2. Her fulfilling of
Capt. Ruane's orders had been delayed by two days because of her
concussion. Nontheless, the Dergrad still had to be talked with.

The discussion between Alyza and the Dergrad Captain [NRPG: or whatever
they call a captain] went on for hours. Alyza remained calm and logical,
while the Dergrad threatened and yelled. He even tried to hit Alyza once,
but Vulcans are very strong and have fast reflexes. She caught his hand
and held it firm. He could not understand how a mere woman, and a pregnant
one at that, could be so strong.

"Your's must be a race of warriors!" bellowed the Dergrad

"Indeed, we Vulcans once were, but we have mastered our emotions and rule
over our chaos."

"What! You do not fight with such strength!?" The Dergrad was incredulous.

Alyza continued to be calm, releasing his fist. He did not try to hit her
again.

----4 hours later-----

Alyza left the Dergrad ship, having spent a total of 7 hours with the
Captain of the HEC'NU. She finally had what she had come for, assurances
that the Dergrad government and military would do everything in their power
to assist the CURIE in finding the Rebel base. [NRPG: I forget, did we
have a name for the captain?]

"Computer, locate Captain Ruane"

Roberts remained in the club after Selak left. Some time passed,
Roberts' let his mind wander so he lost track of time, when he saw Captain
Ruane enter the club. Roberts got up from his chair and walk towards the
captain.
"Captain Ruane, may I have a word with you a moment?", asked
Roberts.
	"Certainly John.", said Ruane.
"I just want to apologize to you concerning my behavior
relating to the alien devices I have. Classified or not, you should have
known about them and their presence on the station. And I shouldn't acted
like a superior snob when you found out about them. I can't help who I am,
but I am trying to make an honest effort to better myself."

Roberts entered the office, where Nancy was sitting at her desk
doing some buearucratic paperwork.
"Hey Nancy. Long time no see.", said Roberts.
"Well finally you're back on the station.", said Nancy, trying to
act like she didn't miss Roberts. "Just because you're a Starfleet officer
doesn't mean you can shelf all your responsibilities of TriCON INC. on
me."
Roberts went over and gave Nancy a big hug. He could hear her
sigh.
"Well, still it's good to see you again.", said Nancy.
"J'nete left me a message saying she went with Brax to pick up
some runabouts.", said Roberts.
"Yes, I just got a message from her and Brax.", said Nancy as she
opened the comm logs on her computer terminal. "She and Brax are being
escorted by a Klingon named Ly'ta to Mancara. They'll be back to the
station in two days."
"Ly'ta?", asked Roberts. "I didn't know she was still in the
sector. I hope she isn't telling J'nete too much about our meeting?"
"Oh you mean how you got drunk and went back to your quarters with
her.", said Nancy. Roberts gave her a shocked look. "Come on John.", she
said. "The way you were carrying on everyone knows."
"Great.", said Roberts, rolling his eyes. "Now I'm the target for
gossip.

"Thank you for the apology John. It's a hard thing to do; and I think
for you especially hard," He paused wondering whether John felt
insulted, whilst also smiling inside.

"...I can't forget that you kept something from me. But I can
forgive." Ruane offered his hand. Roberts paused, looking at it before
taking it in his hand.

"Thank you sir." Roberts said. The two released one anothers hands,
Ruane motioned to the bar,

"Would you like a drink John?"

  "Yes sir."

  "I'm off duty." Ruane smiled.

"Sorry, Graeme." Ruane nodded and the two approached the bar and
ordered drinks.

"By the way Ensign, your efforts in the OPS position haven't gone
unnoticed; nor has your work during the crisis and you recent role in
the rescueing of Ip." Roberts looked puzzled, wondering what the
Captain was saying.

"Let's cut the babble. I had a word with the Commodore yesterday.
Your position at OPS is now official. Harrison already has orders to be
transfered elsewhere. With the position comes a new rank
too....Lieutenant Roberts."

...a short while later.

Ruane was sat in Club 101 alone slowly sipping his drink when
LtCmdr.Alyza arrived.

"Good day Alyza." Graeme greeted her cheerfully.

"Good day." She stood before him and he noticed that she was
definatly heavily pregnant.

"Captain, I have spoken with Admiral Terkow of the HEC'NU and he has
provided the assurances of the Dergrad military. They are prepared to
help the CURIE in anyway required."

"Well done Alyza. You've just made my day. Now sit down." He said,
Alyza looked at the chair and then at Ruane, she lowered herself
carefully into the seat.

"I've just promoted Roberts to Lieuteant. The Commodore believed that
it was appropriate at this time." Alyza nodded and added her thoughts,

"Alyza, I'm wondering. I'm guessing that your baby is due quite
soon." The Vulcan/Bajoran nodded.

"It's just I'm wondering to what extent you can continue your
duties...rumour is that DS 101's next mission is a biggy, but I must
remain here to co-ordinate with the CURIE; and if the HECTOR arrives
that gives me all the more reason to remain on station." Rumour in this
instance meant that Graeme had already received the orders.

"Will you be able to command the BANGALORE on an extensive away-from-
base mission?" He asked seriously, knowing the Vulcan would give an
honest reply. One thing he didn't need was his XO falling pregnant on
the BANGALORE, with it's poor medical facilities. True she would be
able to remain on the ship as acting CO of the vessel, but there could
still be stress and strain that could cause her halm...

With that said Ruane offered to buy Alyza a drink, just as McLeary and
Selak arrived, both of duty and looking to explore the pleasures of Club
101.

Selak looked at the Vulcan/Bajoran closely. She had adopted the
Vulcan way of life well.

"I would enjoy discussing Vulcan philosophy with you some time."
Said Selak

"As would I, Ensign"

** 4 Hours later**

**Scene Ensign Selak's Quarters**

Selak put the finishing touches to the final display of his collection.

"Ensign Selak to Lt Commander Alyza"

[Yes Ensign, what can I do for you?"] She responded.

"I was wondering if you could stop by my quarters for a moment?"

[I was just on my way to club 101.]

"It will not take a second, I have something I would like you to see."
(NRPG the first person to even think of saying anything gets
flamed from now until......... )

[very well Ensign Alyza out.]

As Alyza walked into Selak's quarters, the first thing she saw was a
Borg, at least a very good model of one.

"The actual body is artificial, but the implants and equipment are
real." Said Selak. "I got it from a Federation research centre when
they had no further use for it."

"Why would anyone want to have one of them in their quarters?"
Asked Alyza.

"It is to remind myself what a society totally devoid of emotion could
evolve into."

"It is not logical to become what they represent. All races must learn
to co-operate together."

"I agree, but there are some among Vulcan society that think that
Vulcans have become corrupted by the influences of other races and
advocate isolation from other worlds. It serves as a warning against
their teachings." Said Selak.

Alyza did not agree that the Vulcans could allow such a thing to
happen, but Selak certainly knew how to make a point.

"Well as I said, I was just on my way to club 101, would you like to
accompany me?" Said Alyza.

"I will follow in a few minutes Commander, I just have one or two
things to take care of first."

"Very well Ensign." Said Alyza. With that she left and continued to
the club.

Both Mick and Selak were deep in conversation as they entered the
club. They hardly noticed Ruane and Alyza off to one side.

"Im telling you Selak, my father was there, he was on the Enterprise
when it entered the Delphi Ardu system. He was a junior officer in
engineering" Mick beamed as they ordered a couple of drinks and sat
down.

"It is hard to believe, your father served with Captain LaForge. I
served with the Captain in 98." Selak seemed genuinely interested.

Mick liked this Vulcan. He had an interest in ancient weapons which
boarded on Micks love of history and archeology. And Selak was
slightly right of the normal Vulcan lack of emotionalism. "Yes,
though they were very near in age La Forge was one hell of an engineer
and soon after he joined the Enterprise was made Chief of Engineering.
Anyway, in the Delphi Ardu they encountered a computer being left
behind by the Tkon Empire. I would have loved to study that culture.
Not much is known except the long time span of 600,000 years of their
existence. No planet or civilization had been found other than some
obscure writings discovered in the early 40s last century. My mother
was a science officers during the later part of 24th century."

"How far back does your family go in Starfleet?" Selak asked.

"Five in Starfleet, but we are an old Irish family and I can count
back to the 15th Century on Earth." Mick announced proudly. "But what
about you?"

"There is little of interest to tell. I have been many places because
my father traveled. My mother was human and I have had to live as a
being of two cultures. I think that my attitude towards the Vulcan
emotional control fetish stems from this union. I spent quite some
time with the Klingons and gained a healthy respect for their concept
of warrior honor. I graduated from the Vulcan Science Academy and
later joined Starfleet." Selak had only the slightest hint of pride in
his response.

Mick could see that it was difficult for him to maintain total
control. Mick would have to be careful not to push Selak too far. A
little information here and there would be sufficient.

Just then Commander Ruane interrupted. "Mind if I join you
gentlemen."

"No sir, they both replied in unison"

"That was interesting about the knife Ensign, do you have others from
the same location?"

"A few sir, but not many, and I know very little about their origin."

"Well, you and Mr. McLeary might take a little time to look into the
possibilities, but for now I expect each of you to carry on with your
current assignments. -- Another?" He pointed around the table and
each man nodded.

Ruane continued. "Mick, that is what they call you isnt it."

"Yes sir" Mick responded surprised that the Commander knew his
nickname and that he would use it.

"How did you and Barak come on with your experiment with the panel
this morning?"

"Well, 50/50 sir. We had someone on the bridge turn on various
systems to see if anything registered. There was no reaction from
tactical or security. Nothing from navigation. But a half gage lit
up when the turbolift to the bridge was used. Also there was some
reaction when we altered the life support systems. We continued
checking systems from both the bridge and engineering. It seems that
I was right and the cubical we first entered, the one we showed you,
is somehow tied to internal operations."

"Any more on the language?" Ruane questioned.

"No sir not yet, but I think we might have found a source for power to
the cubical station. If it is, then we might be able to light up each
room and begin poking buttons. I am having engineering bring a
portable generator to the cubical as soon as one is available.
Meanwhile, Barak and I will keep working on the language." Mick
finished and took a drink.

"Thats fine. Now remember, you are assigned to this job on a
temporary basis. We might be pulling together a mission to study the
sector and an archeologist will be needed. Stand ready for the call."
He stood up, downed the drink and nodded a farewell.

Both Ensigns stood to attention as the commander left.

"Sounds like you have a lot to do." Selak remarked

"You might soon begin to plan some navigational settings if I read my
commanders right." Mick laughed and noted that Selaks eyebrow raised
slightly and a wisp - oh so slight - of a smile crossed his face.

Scene: Roberts' Quarters

Roberts entered his quarters. It was pitched black dark, the way
he always like to leave it.
"Computer. Lights.", commanded Roberts. He stode to the couch
lined against the window where an elongated coffeetable was located.
Seated on the couch, he again gave instructions to the computer.
	"Computer. Activate program Phoenix One."
	[Program initiated.], said the computer.
Moments later, a device materialized on the coffeetable. Roberts
picked the device up, treating it as a delicate object. The device was
metallic, silver in color, in the shape of a large pinecone. There were
what looked like scratches covering the entire object. It made no sounds
whatsoever, but the light of the quarters shimmered off its surface.
Roberts studied the object carefully, turning it over and over
again in his hands, looking at it intently. Finally, he moved his fingers
over one of the scratches.
A bright light emitted itself from the object, blinding Roberts
from seeing anything. When his vision cleared, he was standing on a grassy
field, above a clear sky hovering with three suns in the southern horizon.
"Sy'n! Sy'n!", called a voice from the distance. Turning, Roberts
saw a humanoid in the distance. Apparently female in gender, she had dark
blue skin, even darker than a Bolian. She had four eyes, two on one side
of her face, two on the other side in a stacking arrangement. Even from
afar Roberts could see the gold color emanating from her eyes. She had
black hair, which was cut very short.
The humanoid approached Roberts. "Sy'n. By Caltho-queris, you
always let your attention wander. The sail races are about to start. Your
father is waiting for us at the transship."
	"I'm sorry mother.",said Roberts.
"You will be sorry if you miss the event. Let us go."
Roberts walked with the humanoid, both side by side. He didn't
know how,but he knew where he was and where he was going. He even knew the
alien walking with him.
As they hit the bottom of the hill, Roberts could see in the
distance a strange-looking ship resting on a platform. Another humanoid
was standing by it, waving his hand at Roberts and the female alien.
Another flash of light hit Roberts again. When his vision cleared
he was standing on a desolate planet. Everywhere he looked he could see
that the land had been scorched by some terrible weapon. Trees were burned
to a crisp, no signs of life anywhere. Even though he couldn't
recognize it, he knew this was the same place he was moments ago.
Another flash, and Roberts was back in his quarters. The low
humming sound of the device slowly died away.
"Computer, open file historylost1. Begin recording. I have
determined with certainty that one of the devices is an archive
instrument. Previous scans has shown my presence being onthe station the
entire time during all three episodes I have experience. This would
confirm that what I experienced are memories stored in the device. So far
the memories have not revealed what the functions of the other devices I
have are for. What I do know isthe the archive device has a program
similiar to what I have, which is allowing formy brain to process the
memories being received. End recording and save file."
Roberts put the device back down on the	table. As before, it
dematerialized to its 'home' space.
	"Computer. Disengage Phoenix One."
	[Program disengaged]
"Computer,is the GALAXY still currently docked?"
	[Affirmative]
Roberts got up from his couch and got himself ready to tour the
GALAXY.

Graeme entered Club 101 to see that McLeary and Selak were sat at a
table, watching the video wall that the now Lieutenant Roberts, had
designed into the club. The program on was a scientific program, a
repeat of an old production, narrated by Michael Denton, who at the time
had been a prominent scientific journalist. Graeme wondered what ever
happened to him . This
particular program was about wormholes, with the odd insight into the
stable wormhole near Bajor. Graeme walked to their table.

"Do you mind if I join you?" He asked.

  "Not at all." McLeary said.

  "Thank you." Graeme sat down.

"So how are you two settling into DS 101?"

"Well Captain, I would like to ask you a few questions about the

of her so I can familiar myself with her systems?"

"Ensign, This is Club 101, we are here to relax and have some fun.
Take the time to get to know your fellow officers." Responded
Ruane. He took a long look at his new Ensign The look on his face
showed he had a deep sense of responsibility to his duties and he
wondered if he allowed himself much time to have fun. "I will see
what I can arrange later. Meanwhile I think it is your round, Selak."
He concluded.

Selak stood, walked over to the bar and waived at the waiter who had
served him earlier that day.

"I would like another round of drinks." He said.

The waiter looked at him nervously. "I think we have some Klingon
blood wine, if you would like."

"No thank you, the same again would be just fine." Said Selak. "And
could you please charge a round of drinks for the whole club to the
Captain."

"I...I...Don't....."

"It's all right, we are having a private celebration but the Captain

see, he has just been promoted to Admiral, but has not had the
normal official conformation yet." Said Selak. "But you must not tell
Anyone, Just say the club is having a promotion or something."

"Very well." The waiter said finally.

Selak walked back to the table with the hint of a smile on his face.
He would reimburse the Captain later but not before pointing out that
it was the Captain himself that told him to have fun.

"Ensign McLeary." Selak said as he handed him his drink.

"Call me Mick, all my friends do." McLeary said.

"Mick." Continued Selak. "What sort of recreational facilities are
there on the station?"

"I'll give you a tour sometime but we don't have a great deal out
here." Mick said. (NRPG could someone tell me if there are any
gymnasiums, shooting galleries for phaser practice, etc.)

The waiter walked over to the table and gave a PADD to Ruane.

"Here's your bill Captain and may I say congratulations."

Ruane looked at the PADD as the waiter walked away.

"What the hell is this!" He said.

Alyza ordered an Altair water and sat down. Shortly afterwards, Ruane left
for some duty or other. Alyza was alone with her thoughts. Logic, she had
known, is the proper path for a Vulcan. Without logic, the Vulans would
still be vicious, warlike, and distructive. Logic did not lead one to
become like a Borg, as Selek had said. Borgs may be efficient, but they
are not logical. Selek's thinking was flawed. Perhaps he had not had the
training she had been given. At any rate, he was half-human, and seemed to
be more human than Vulcan in his actions, if not his looks. He was part of
the great tapestry of t'triahve (a word that has the concept of IDIC).

While she was sitting there thinking, Captain Ruane returned to Club 101,
and [NRPG: name your character] also walked in the Club.

Alyza saw the Captain sitting down with McLeary and Selak and
decided to join them.

"I hope I did not startle you earlier Commander." Said Selak, as she
sat down.

"No you did not, but I think your thinking is flawed Ensign." Alyza
Replied.

Selak thought for a moment. "I believe my logic is sound, the image
is for my own benefit not necessarily for the benefit of others."

"Yes but the natural evolution of logic is not Borg."

"It is not meant to represent the evolution of logic, it is meant to
represent the evolution of a culture without emotion. I believe there
is a subtle difference." Selak looked at Alyza and continued. "you
will soon give birth and I believe you will be a good and strong
mother to your children. One day, however, they will swim out a
little to far in a lake or climb a little to high in a tree and even
though
logic will tell you that they are not doing anything that normal
children do not do at their age and they are in no real danger, an
emotion will surface that will be far stronger than your ability to
control it. That emotion will be one of fear or worry. It is not to be
ignored. It is an emotion of somebody who is a good and caring
mother. A world devoid of all emotion is a cold world."

( NRPG: Alyza, comments?)

Selak continued. "One day your children will grow into adulthood
and you will feel a sense of pride at whatever they become.
My mother died when I was very young and I was not able to do that
for her. I have followed the Vulcan teachings all my life, but to turn
my back on emotion would be like turning my back on everything
my mother was. I made a conscious choice to allow my feelings to
show when I felt it was important, it is not due to any lack of
training, but an attempt on my part to honour my mothers memory."

Selak stood and walked over to the bar. He hoped nobody had
noticed the tear that had come into the corner of his eye.

NRPG: Just a short piece to develop the reasons behind Selak's
displays of emotions.
Note: He is just as capable of showing no emotion at all and even
has trouble dealing with emotional humans sometimes. His
emotions usually surface more when he is under pressure or stress.

>"What the hell is this!"
  Ruane looked at the waiter.

"Congratulations sir." He said, a little sheepishly following
Graeme's outburst.

"Congratulations on what? Falling into debt." He quipped looking at
the PADD.

"No sir, on your promotion to Admiral." The waiter seemed confused,
he didn't know whether to be impressed by the Admiral's acting or
embarrased; he felt like he had said something horribly wrong. On the
opposite side of the table to Graeme, Selak was almost smiling. McLeary
had already guessed what was happening and looked on in disbelief. A
couple of tables away Alyza was watching the scene with interest.
Graeme's eyes caught the half-vulcan, half-human's.

  "Selak?" He said.

"You said have fun sir." He took the PADD from Ruane's hands and
signed it himself. He then handed it back to the disgruntled waiter.

"So you're not an Admiral?" Asked the waiter before leaving the
table.

  "No." Graeme smiled.

"Damn!" He went back to his bar and seemed to start shouting
something down a comm link; something about cancelling an order for
something...

Graeme turned his attention back to Selak, staring deep into the
Vulcan's eyes. His own bright red cutting into him like lasers.

"I am not amused." He said seriously. Selak looked back at him, his
face blank, he wondered whether he had become pale.

"Sorry sir." Selak said. Graeme continued to stare for a moment
longer before his face cracked and he burst out laughing.

"Sir?" Selak said. McLeary started to laugh himself.

"You should have seen your face Selak." McLeary laughed. Selak
looked back and forth between the two laughing figures, before forcing a
smile. They stopped when they heard an almost monotone female voice
from above them.

  "Interesting...and illogical." Alyza said.

"Ah, Alyza. Please join us." Mick invited the Vulcan. She was
hesitant, but soon sat down. Just moments later [NRPG: Whoever want to
join us] came over and sat down.

"Does anybody know a good story eh?" Graeme asked, gulping down some
of his drink.

All: I think our Lt.Roberts has been the only one of us to get drunk so
far on DS 101; time to increase that number me thinks.

"Yes, sir."

"Also, solving pollution in the twentieth century was problematic,
because the technology causing it was integrated into the economic system
that was active during that time.", said Roberts to the young man.
"Really? Wow! This should be enough to finish my history report.",
said the young boy. "Thanks for giving me help on this."
"When you finished revising, let me take a look. I would like to
read about my old stomping grounds.", said Roberts.
The boy smiled and left, leaving Roberts to enter Club 101, the
entrance where he was standing at.
Inside there were alot of people socializing. With all the recent
activites, it was a relief to have a place to forget about life's
problems. Feeling the additional pip on his collar, Roberts headed over to
the bar. He motioned for the waiter to retrieve a bottle from Roberts'
hidden stock (hidden because know one knew about it). With his promotion
and his daughter J'nete gone from the station temporarily, Roberts decided
to drink himself to oblivion.
With the bottle of a drink Roberts had called Jungle Juice in
hand, he turned to find a table to sit at. He saw Ruane, Alyza, Selak, and
another individual sitting together at a table. Taking a deep breath,
Roberts decided to do something he never did before.
Approaching the table Roberts interrupted the group.
"Excuse me, do you mind if I join you?"
