Graeme slipped out of his uniform and into his shower, as the sonics
clensed his body he thought about what had happened in M'Beya's
shop. It had certainly been interesting. He
spent five minutes in the shower before putting on his night clothes and
sitting on his bed, he was attracted to his console by a continuous
bleep. He sat on the chair beside it, turned the screen towards him and
hit 'Display message'.

CURIE, HECTOR crew: Welcome to DS 101, we look forward to recieving your
ships here. :) Can you please add 'ds101@scars.demon.co.uk' to your
maillists?

Player of Lancia: I have little details on the HECTOR; could you tell me
what class it is?

CURIE: I see from mission orders the CURIE will be searching for the
rebel base; please post all messages to 'ds101@holoworld.net' so we know
what is going on. :)

DS 101: The CURIE has mission orders to find the rebel base; please bare
that in mind when dealing with the current situation.

Rob, Aaron: DS 101 will become supply depo for the CURIE and HECTOR; for
that we need to have supplies and maintenance crews; both OPS and ENG
will need to prepare their crews and their stock cupboards. :)

All: I am currently working on a revamp for DS 101's web page; it will
include an encyplodia on the Amgine Sector and DS 101 so information
collected by the CURIE, HECTOR and DS 101 can be kept tidy. :) The old
web page can still be reached at:

While Roberts had been working on arranging things with the Dergred, Alyza
had begun work on tracing the rebel communication. By the time Roberts was
done and ready to work with her, she had already traced the communication
to one sector of Dergred space. There were, unfortunately, 3 solar systems
in that sector. However, one of the solar systems was the the same one in
which the Banglore had been ambushed.

Roberts approached and asked about her progress. She filled him in briefly.

"I would say that the solar system the Banglore was in before is a likely
starting place." said Roberts "Can you narrow the scan in this range here
and enhance the fix a bit?"

"Indeed, that was my next step" replied Alyza, her hands makeing the
adjustments quickly.

The computer again displayed the possible origins of the communication.
This time, there were only 2 solar systems, including the one in which the
ambush occured.

"Damn!" swore Roberts, "that is too much area for the Banglore"

"We must also consern ourselves with a ship being detected and the civilian
Ip'sc being murdered before a ship can be in range. The Banglore is far to
easy to detect. What we need, is a Fynman class vessel with a DELPHI Array
that can pinpoint the rebels and on lone human from a great distance."

"But we do not have that, we have the Banglore."

> "Ruane to Alyza."
>
> [Alyza here.]
>
> "LtCmdr, I've been informed that a vessel originating from this
>station is playing around in Dergrad space. See what you can find for
>me."
>
> [Yes Captain.] The comm link closed, Graeme stood and headed for the
>mall.
>
Roberts called up a list of ships that had left so far today. One half of
them could be illiminated right away as they were Starfleet transports or
supply ships, leaving only 6 ships. One of the ships was owned by owned by
one M'Beya,
one by a Ferengi, 2 by Betazed merchants, and 2 were owned by human
sightseers.

Alyza and Roberts discussed the possiblities for a few minutes, and decided
that M'Beya was the most probable of the six to be involved with this.
Alyza notified Captain Ruane of this, and the 2 systems the transmission
from the rebels could have come from.

[NRPG: Phil, what is your reply? You can assume that the info on the Curie
and Hector have not arrived yet, but I could not resist seeing the
usefulness of the DELPHI Array in this search :-) ]

Scene: Console Room

Roberts rubbed his eyes, fatigue finally hitting him after the
hours of work he did. He just came from working with Alyza on finding the
Dergrad Rebel base. After pinpointing the most likely area, Roberts
returned to his station console to begin readying the station as a
supplydepot for the CURIE and the HECTOR. Roberts had completed the
preliminary stuff, assigning crews to complete tasks was another matter.
All this excitement came at the worst time. Roberts friend Martha
Kendle was recalled to Earth by Starfleet Specialist Division, and could
not wait for the GALAXY to depart. She left a message for Roberts, jovial
as usual, promising to return to visit him and J'nete soon.
"J'nete.", Roberts said aloud. He completely forgot about her.
Logging out of his station, Roberts hurried to the turbolift. No matter
how much he screwed up in the past, Roberts wasn't going to ruin this
opportunity with J'nete.

Scene: The Mall
J'nete wandered from shop to shop, seeing what strange merchandise
each merchant had to offer. Business at TriCON INC. had picked up again,
and everyone there were busy picking up where they left off. After a
couple of hours, Nancy chased J'nete out of the office, saying she did
enough work and to go find some recreation to do.
J'nete really had not had the opportunity to explore the station.
She did hangaround the docking port, fascinated by its reshaping
abilities. After watching the ships come and go, she returned to the Mall
to see all the shops available.
J'nete had stopped at an Andorian spice shop and was sampling some
of the fragrances when she heard her name called. Turning around, she saw
Roberts approach her. She put the spice bottles down and greeted him.
"Find anything interesting?", said Roberts as he gave J'nete a
quick his on her forehead.
"I was just looking. I'm amazed by the variety of merchants here
on the station.", commented J'nete.
"So am I.", said Roberts. "I came looking for you to see if you
were hungry and wanted to eat."
"Yes.", said J'nete almost anxiously. With all her exploring she
didn't realize how hungry she was.
"Let's go back to our quarters to eat. I programmed the replicator
with some of my favorite Mexican dishes."
"Mexican? Isn't that a subculture of humans that riginated on
Earth?", asked J'nete.
"Sure is. They have some of the best food around. I could live off
the stuff. Come on."

Scene: Deck Three, Roberts and J'nete's Quarters

"Mmmm! Smells good.", said J'nete as Roberts placed the plate on the table
in front of her.
"Cheese enchiladas, baked beans, rice, and Chile relleno.", said
Roberts. "These are my favorite of the Mexican foods. I can never get
enough of this stuff."
Roberts placed his plate down on the table and sat in the chair on
the opposite side of J'nete. The table was located next to the window,
allowing them to view the nebula near the station.
J'nete took a try of each of the food. After chewing for a few
seconds, she smiled. "It's different, but I think I like it."
"Some people say that the replicators can't do justice with some
meals, but I never noticed. And it sure beats cooking this stuff.", said
Roberts.
"You used to cook?", asked J'ete amazed.
"Sure, back in the twentieth century we had to prepare all our
foods. Some of it came prepared, but we still had to heat it up.", said
Roberts.
"Could you show me how to do that?", asked J'nete.
"Sure. It's been awhile. But I think I could replicate some
cooking utensils and show you."
	J'nete smiled in appreciation.
"So what do you think of the station so far?", asked Roberts.
"I love it here. So many different people are here. Nancy is
having me help her arrange trade orders, so I get to meet the merchants."
"That's good. But that's only going to be part-time. Martha says
you've been studying various subjects to prepare entering Starfleet
Academy."
"Oh I know. Getting into the academy is my number one priority.
I already told Nancy about my studies."
Roberts faced turned serious for a moment. "J'nete, the academy is
still a few years off for you. You don't have to make your decision now."
"What do you mean?", asked the young Cardassian.
"I just want you to keep an open mind. There are many things you
can do with your life. I don't want you to narrow down to one career."
"Martha told me the same thing. But I know what I want. But I will
keep an open mind..", said J'nete.
Both resumed eating there meals. After a few moments both had
finished eating their meals. As Roberts put the dishes in the dispenser,
J'nete looked out the window at the nebula.
"John, what do you know of the Nebula Dwellers?"
"Not much really.", said Roberts as he sat back down at the table.
"I've heard rumors here and there from local merchants, but nothing
concrete. Why do you ask?"
"I figured with the station inhabited again and aliens living in
there would want to make their presense known.", said J'nete. "Especially
with all the traffic around here."
"Maybe we would think that, but if any aliens do reside in there
they could be xenophobic. Besides, there is no evidence of their existence
so I tend to discount the idea."
"Are you going to explore the nebula?", asked J'nete.
"Not at the present moment. There's too many other things to take
care of. Maybe once the station is up and running and we have a firmer
relationship with the Dergrad and Vurtedion."
Just then the blip of the comm signal interrupted them.
	[Zenel to Roberts]
"Go ahead.", said Roberts responding to the ops crewman.
[Sir, a Gorn captain who was cleared to depart is asking to speak
to you. Says something about you inconviencing him and swearing blood war
between you and the Gorn Empire]
Roberts rolled his eyes. "I'll be right there. Roberts out."
	J'nete giggled a bit.
"I better take care of this. I don't want to cause a war between
the Federation and the Gorn because of an upset merchant.", said Roberts
sarcastically as he got up to leave.
	"Good luck.", said J'nete smiling.
	"Thanks.!"

Stardate: 90404-0633
Scene: Deck 4 - McLeary's Quarters
ds101@protv.ro

Mick awoke to the sound of computer beeping. Groggy,
he sat up in bed and with a graveled voice said, "yes".

"Ensign McLeary?" a deep monotone voice curled around
his head.

"Yes"

"This is Ensign Barak. I have been assigned to accompany
and guide you on your visit and review of the alien computer
corps." A tempered and controled Vulcan voice if he had
ever heard one. Barak continuing, "I can meet you in the
officers mess on deck 3 in 30 minutes if that would be
convienient?"

Convienient! Mick had hardly slept since his communication
with Commander Alyza last night and it looked that this Ensign
Barak was going to be all business this morning. "That will
be fine, I will meet you there."

"Barak out." he stated.

Mick looked up and around his room. He had not taken much
time to look around these past few days. With the command
meeting, his assignments, and everything else he had been on
the go. But now he had a small chance to look over the
quarters. It was very spacious. In fact too spacious. A
sleeping room possibly slightly larger than what he might
find on a Federation built starbase and the ceilings were quite
high. In fact, he had noted that all the rooms he had been in
had very high ceilings. Something to remember as he began
studying the beings that built this base.

Moving into the main room he found a tastfully (Federation
issue) furnished living/dining area with replicator and computer
console. Special modifications were created on the other side
of the living room for a small bath/shower. He crossed the room
and entered the shower area.

30 minutes later:

The Officers Mess seemed a little smaller than he had remembered
from yesterday. There was still the octagonal look, and the ceilings
were very high, but it was much more crowed as officers moved in
and out eating and leaving for duty. Mick looked around for the
Vulcan. He saw four, but one stood out. First he was stareing at
Mick with an, ever so slight, quizical look. He was slightly taller
than the Vulcans Mick had met. His features were angular and he was
a bit thin. Handsome by almost anyone's standard and, well,
commanding. He might be an ensign now but someday this man
looked to command.

"Ensign Barak I assume?" Mick questioned as he put out his had
in the typical human welcoming gesture.

"Yes Ensign McLeary. how do you do? He took Mick's hand with a
strong grip.

"Fine, do we have time for some breakfast?"

"Yes, if you wish. I have been up for some time and have already
eaten, but you go ahead. This might be a good time for me to
brief you if this would be alright?" he asked politely.

"Of course, have a seat and I will be back shortly" Mick gestured
to a table then walked towards a replicator. He really missed the
good cooking from a real mess chief. You got that at the
academy, and Omega Base had a real food mess that served
great weekend brunches. Of course, the rest of the week it was -
"Ham with two eggs easy over, toast and coffee." Mick ordered
the replicator. The machine wined and hummed then the breakfast
appeared from out of noware on a electornically created tray. Mick
picked it up and returned to the table.

"Ok Barak, fill me in."

Barak folded his long thing fingers together and laid them on the
table. "I am not sure what you know or have had a chance to study.
If I am covering areas you are familiar with then please stop me and
I will move to other items. About 50 years ago this station was
abandoned by an alien race, now unknown to us. When the
Federation took over the station and began to convert the alien
computer technology to Starfleet standards we were able to learn
that they were quite scientific and spent a great deal of time
studying the nebula. They left the area in a hurry taking all
move-able valuable equipment with them. Rumours indicate that the
station was abandoned when the inhabitants became afraid of whoever
and whatever dwells within the Nebula. We have not been able to
determine anything about it either. With the conflict between the
Dergrad' and the Vurtedions there has been little time for study.
Also, someone of your background had not been available. I am
familiar with various languages especially computer languages. Maybe
with your knowledge of archeology and history we might be able to
piece some of the former inhabitants story together."

Mick downed the last gulp of orange juice and look the Vulcan over
once more. He seemed straight forward and directed. Most Vulcans
were. But he noticed a slight bit of anticipation in his voice. This
would be good. Mick hated to be bombarded with cold logic when
gut feelings might very well be in order.

"I am complimented, Barak. It is true that I have not only studied
archeology but I also consider it a hobby. Technological societies
will leave enormous amounts of information in their computers.
The key is to dicifer the codes and unlock the answeres. Shall we
go?" Mick stood up.

So did Barak, and as he did he took a serious look at this new,
exciteable ensign. He like the way McLeary looked him in the
eyes when he spoke, and listened for that matter. Many humans
will look away. He seemed to be a quick thinker but might be
proned to makeing quick judgements. Yet, he recognized a
leader and one who knew his business. They would make a
fine team. He was somewhat ashamed though for having these
emotional feelings about this coming project. He would have
to spend extra time meditating.

Both ensigns briskly walked off into the main corador of deck three
turning towards the turbolift and on to deck 8.
