Gargoyles Links
In 1994, Disney premiered a truly ambitious and complex animated series called "Gargoyles." It was the story of six Scottish gargoyles, protectors of a castle, who were frozen in stone for a thousand years and awakened in modern Manhattan. Over 66 episodes, series originator Greg Weisman created a complex universe inhabited by some 50+ memorable and multifaceted characters. And complicated? At any given moment there were probably 9 or 10 simultaneous plot arcs being pursued. The series covered magic and mysticism, numerous multicultural legends and folklores, modern lessons of morality and courage...and through it all ran the underlying themes of the futility and destructive nature of revenge and the power of loyalty and love. Flawed heroes, villains who redeem themselves, unresolved endings and two people destined to fall in love despite the fact that one was human and the other a gargoyle..."Gargoyles" was far more than a kids' show (I doubt most kids could even follow it), and it has the most remarkable fan following on the Internet that I have ever seen.
The big one, the granddaddy, the original Garg website. It's grown from a humble beginning to the behemoth it is today. Here, the series is continued as textual episodes, "aired" once a week, based on creator Greg Weisman's master plan for the series. Three spinoffs also have weekly episodes. You'll also find character descriptions, fan fiction, and lots more good stuff.
Another el-huge-o Garg site, more interactive. A chatty comment board, various and sundry other items.
Christine Morgan's Gargoyles Fiction
I've read a lot of fanfic in my time, from various fandoms, and I've never seen anything quite like this. Talented author Christine Morgan continued the series herself in some 50 stories (and counting) that weave the existing characters and stories with ones of her own creation so seamlessly that it becomes hard to tell them apart. It's a truly remarkable fanfiction saga...and it once cost me an entire night of sleep when I first discovered it.
A nice site, mostly dedicated to Goliath and Elisa...a nice picture collection and some peeks into Greg Weisman's mind.
