And standing by his side in this victory would be Scully. He knew when she'd joined The X-Files division that they'd made a mistake. The powers that be had figured she'd call him on the carpet and shut him down. Instead, she'd become his partner in a way they'd never expected. To him, Scully was a superhero. Protector of all victims and caped defender of science and truth.

He had nothing but respect for Scully. She not only worked with him and listened to him, she believed in him. Mulder hoped someday he could express all these thoughts and feelings to Scully. It would be his gift to her; a way to say thank you. And it sure beat the other gift he'd been holding for her, especially since he hadn't stored that gift in the proper conditions. That surprise was probably spoiled...
