Top Ten List - by Martha Little

Here is my list of Ten Really Neat Scenes to Watch. It may have been the lighting, the props, the set, the special effects, or a combination of them all that made them stand out in my mind.

1. from Kill Switch - Esther Nairn uploading her consciousness, ending with that smoke trail from her mouth. Killer.

2. from Max - the final abduction of Max Fenig and the subsequent plane crash.

3. from Teso Dos Bichos - the rats in the toilet.

4. from Jose Chung's From Outer Space - Lord Kinbote meets the Air Force Greys.

5. from 731 - the traincar explosion.

6. from Memento Mori - the opening sequence of Scully looking at her x-rays.

7. from Fallen Angel - the abduction of Max Fenig.

8. from Paper Clip - the UFO takeoff at the mining company.

9. from End Game - the submarine/vessel launch.

10. from Post-Modern Prometheus - every minute. To take a show that always seems too dark and do it in black and white without sacrificing the visuals - classic.

Ooooh good ones...may I add my Top 10 plus 10 (couldn't stop at 10) for visual imagery:

1. Oiliens pouring out of every Krycek facial orifice. (Apocrypha)

2. Skinny dog in the night street - militia scene (Tunguska)

3. Whiny strip searched courier & customs guy getting oiliened (Tunguska) (good casting)

4. Muddy pants Mulder & Krycek (steam coming from breath) dig under fence with foreboding sky (Tunguska).

5. Dr. Polidori's house (PMP)

6. Townfolk with torches storming barn (PMP) (good lighting/camera work)

(Just an aside, I loved the music in Tunguska and PMP, too)

7. Shot of Mulder standing in the field (The Field Where I Died)

8. The brothers walking down the road end scene (El Mundo Gira)

9. The fungused convenience clerk and his nuts (El Mundo Gira)

10. Donnie Pfaster's bedroom (Irresistible)

11. Scully pulling out morgue drawer (2Shy)

12. Scene looking down on crash site (Tempus Fugit)

13. Mulder standing on the airstrip (it's a poster) (can't remember which ep)

14. For costumes and cars (Travelers)

15. Squirting boils (F Emasculata)

16. Mulder and the fireman and the fog and the bodies on Skyland Mountain (Patient X)

17. The final scene of Skyland Mountain (Ascension)

18. The guts in the trees drip on Mulder (Teso Dos Bichos)

19. Exploding car scene (Paper Clip)

20. Mrs. Peacock rolls out from under the bed (Home)

 

I could probably think of 10 more but these were wonderful. Kudos to the crew.

9. the sound design for the final scene of Soft Light

10. Chrissy's room at the end of Jose Chung's

11. lightning effects (DPO)

12. snake slithering down the stairs (Die Hand...)

13. Mulder's flashbacks (Demons)

14. Palid!Scully's makeup (Redux II)

15. Mulder's huge clunky cel phone (Unusual Suspects)

16. M&S in the woods chasing the Great Mutato (PMP)

17. the mine full of files and other stuff (Paper Clip)

18. M&S getting dragged across the gym floor (Die Hand...)

19. Leonard emerging from his betadine bath (Leonard Betts)

20. Munch pacing behind Byars (Unusual Suspects)

Those folks in LA have a LOT to live up to. Like it's any consolation, but I think Vancouver was a star of the X-Files in a way that LA can never be. We'll look forward to seeing our X-Files veterans credited in upcoming projects (like Mat Beck for Titanic).
