Near Port Orchard, Washington         Fall 1992

It was a seemingly normal morning for the two students heading off to school.  Cruising down Glenwood Road at 10-15 over the speed limit, as was the usual practice for teens in the area, they were hardly expecting the experience that awaited them just around a certain corner.

It was a little foggy, so the driver generally slowed down as they approached each corner, then punched it once on the straightaway.  However, much to their horror, directly in front of them, not 50 yards from this corner, a dark shape loomed in the mist.  The passenger gasped as he realized what the driver had already grasped - the shape looked like a person, standing in the middle of the road with a large bag in his or her hand.  The driver slammed on the brakes, and the car slid toward this "thing" in the road.  There wasn't enough room to stop, however, and the two high school seniors braced themselves for the sick "thump" of a body striking the hood of the car.  But, no thump was to be heard, as right in front of the students' eyes, the figure passed completely through the vehicle, remaining in precisely the same spot on that foggy, dawn-lit road.   After realizing what had just happened, the driver floored the accelerator, lurching the car away from the strange, unnerving experience behind them.  Neither student mentioned the events to the other after that morning - the shocked look on both their faces at the moment they saw the shade blur through the car was acknowledgement enough.  To this day, those two students slow down very carefully along Glenwood Road, afraid that the spirit may again appear.
