Officer Lucy Mitchell lead a routine life as a mounted police officer for the city of New Orleans. During Mardi Gras, five years ago, Lucy had just went on duty. She and her trusted horse/partner Incatatus, were struck down by a truck as she crossed a major street to the French Quarter. Doctors worked feverishly to saved her, but were losing the battle. Dr. Sam Leung, a genetisist, offered a experimental procedures to heal Lucy. While under his care, blood from Incatatus mixed with Lucy's and a transformation began taking place. Dr. Leung kept her in hiding, telling the department that she needed special care and all contact from her family and friends was striktly forbidden.

Her physical changes turned her legs into that of a horse and sprouting a tale to match. Lucy's special abilities surfaced soon after. Dr. Leung nurtured her body and soul by training the confused woman and helping her to use her new found abilities. She recently left his care and joined up with a band of mutants, introduced to her by a friend of Dr. Leung.
