[5:47 EDT, Delta Pi house]

>>Kate walked out of the room, making a mental note to try to talk to Tara and Corinne again when Megan wasn’t around and to find out more about Dr. Burrell. In the meantime, she headed out to look for someone who would prove more cooperative.>>

Kate walked out onto the porch of the house, and stood for a moment, scanning the crowd. She spotted Flynn, standing not far away, with a young man who was crying. She headed in their direction and Flynn stepped away from the boy to meet her.

"Boyfriend," she asked quietly, nodding in the boy’s direction.

Flynn nodded. "Sort of. Name’s Brian Astman. They dated in high school, broke up recently. He says that Erika was brainwashed by the sorority and they made her break up with him. He tried to see her today, but someone named Megan wouldn’t let him."

"Megan Miller," Kate said. "I just met her." She rolled her eyes. "Annoying little… She definitely seems to have some sort of hold over the others. She comes across as being very cold, and very sure of herself. I couldn’t get muck out of the other girls with her around. One of them did say something interesting, though. I don’t suppose Brian mentioned the name Dr. Burrell?"

Flynn shook his head and took a step toward the boy. "Brian, do you know a Dr. Burrell?"

Brian looked up, sniffled and frowned in concentration. "Dr. Burrell? I don’t think so." He thought for a moment longer, then nodded. "I think maybe he’s in the psychology department. Why?"

"Erika never mentioned him to you," Kate asked.

"She didn’t talk to me about much of anything after *they* got to her."

"He means the sorority," Flynn whispered.

Kate nodded. "How about Tara Craig or Corinne Thompson?"

"Yeah, I know Corinne. Erika met her at freshman orientation." He grimaced. "It was Corinne who recruited her. Erika didn’t even want to join a sorority until they met." He stopped abruptly, staring at the house.

Kate and Flynn turned to see what he was looking at. Megan was standing in the window, watching them. A moment later, she turned away and let the curtain fall back into place.

"That was Megan," Kate told Flynn.

"I’ve gotta get out of here," Brian said.

"Where can I find you if I have more questions," Flynn asked him.

Brian sniffled again, glared at the house for a moment, then turned his gaze on Flynn and shrugged. "Around," he said. "If I’m here, I’m in the dorms. Tavner Hall, room 427." He turned and walked away.

"I wonder if she has that effect on everyone," Flynn said. They started walking toward the house.

"Why don’t you go find out," Kate said, somewhat apologetically. "See if you can get her away from the other girls."
