[6:31 PM, EDT, Delta Pi house]

After Corinne’s hasty departure, Kate took a few moments to look around the sparsely furnished library. Other than the conspicuously empty shelves, everything appeared perfectly normal, at least on the surface - writing desk in one corner, a couple of over-stuffed chairs and a low table and lamp between them, some bad art hanging on the walls. But something seemed just a little bit off, although Kate couldn’t figure out exactly what it was.

Heading out into the hallway, she made a point of looking around and trying to get a handle on the impression . She spotted Sandra nearby, standing by a large, heavy looking door, and headed over to her.

"Have you noticed anything strange about this place," Kate asked.

"Other than the obvious," Sandra asked, shrugging. "Like what?"

"I’m not sure. Just something strange about the atmosphere." She looked around at the dark red carpeting and the dark hardwood trim and paneling of the hallway. Although there was plenty of light, the area seemed very closed in and oppressive. "I half expect Bela Lugosi to pop out from behind one of these doors at any moment. It just doesn’t feel like a house where a group of college girls should live."

"One of those girls was just murdered. That would certainly contribute to a less than festive atmosphere."

Kate nodded her agreement. "True, but even so…" She let the thought trail off and made a dismissive gesture. "Anyway, I got in touch with the psychology department’s secretary. Dr. Burrell will be expecting a visit at nine tomorrow morning. And I talked to Corinne Thompson again. She was telling me…"

Her statement was cut short by a scream that echoed through the house. Both agents drew their guns and ran off in the direction of the sound.
