[10:55AM, University Hospital]

Officer Quinn was rushed into an examination cubicle in the emergency room, with half a dozen doctors tending him and making a fuss. Typical reaction when an officer of the law is brought in, but cold comfort to those waiting for answers. Kate wondered if Quinn had a family, if anyone should be contacted, but she was sure his co-workers would see to that. For her part, Kate wanted answers and she was determined to get some before someone else was killed, rendered catatonic, or just plain traumatized by the goings on on the Karellon campus.

At the information desk, she inquired about Jennifer Robert’s room number and headed for the second floor to locate the rest of the team. Exiting the elevator, she spotted Flynn at the other end of the hallway and waved to him.

"What happened," Flynn asked as Kate walked over to him. "Some officer was brought in?"

Kate briefly recounted the conversation she’d had with Quinn the previous night and how she had come to find him in the maintenance shed. Just as she finished talking, Eithne and Damian emerged from Jennifer’s room, so she started over, filling them in, too.

"Have you found out anything more about this other missing girl," the new team leader asked.

"Still waiting for the call. In the meantime, I want to know why two normal, apparently healthy people are suddenly in catatonic states, and what made them that way. How’s Jennifer doing," Kate asked.

"About the same," Eithne replied. "Although, I did get a reaction out of her when I mentioned Burrell’s name. It was just an expression in her eyes, but that’s a start. What about Burrell? How did that go?"

"He wasn’t overly cooperative. And he had no alibi for the time of Ann Shepard’s murder. As far as being a suspect, I think he’s the best one we’ve come up with so far, but…" Kate shrugged.

The group turned in unison toward the elevators as Sandra emerged and came to join them. "I tracked down the locking device," she said to Kate, prompting curious looks from the others. "It was sold to a service station on 27th Street. When we’re done here, I think we should check that out."

Kate nodded, and while Sandra explained the situation to Eithne, she pulled Flynn aside.

"Have you talked to Jennifer’s doctor yet," Kate asked.

"No, he’s off duty. But I’ve got his home address. I was just about to go talk to him."

"Good. I’d like to come along."
