[MD 2, 6:30 am, Guys Cabin]

A pounding on the door startled a sleeping Newt, and he sat up in the tiny bed, disorientated. There was a voice, vaguely familiar calling them to wake up .. at least he thought that's what it was saying. His heart raced as he tried to make sense of the morning through the fog of semi-sleep.

Flynn too was sitting up, rubbing his eyes and yawning. "Guess that's our wake-up call .." he mumbled.

Newt tried to focus and nod as though he were awake before falling back under the covers and beginning to drift blissfully back into the darkness of sleep.

Flynn mumbled something again, but Newt gladly ignored it for a few more moments of precious sleep.

[MD 2, 6:55 am]

"Hey Newt!"

Newt grumbled, pulling the blanket tighter around himself.

"Well, I'm going to meet the others for breakfast, you can sleep the day away if you'd like."

Ummm .. breakfast .. now that sounded good. But was it good enough to get out of bed for?

"Don't forget we've got to meet the Sheriff in half an hour." He heard Flynn say, but didn't respond. "Hey are you listening to me? 30 minutes .. With or without breakfast!"

With or without .. breakfast?? He sat up, "I .. hear ya .."

Flynn chuckled, "Maybe I'll see you at the café if you can get ready fast enough."

Then he opened the door and slid out of the Cabin.

Thirty minutes! Oh heck, he could make it .. if he hurried...

Jumping out of bed he danced across the cold floor and into the bathroom. His mind filled with hot pancakes, butter .. maple syrup .. real maple syrup! He brushed his teeth, shaved, and dressed all in the next 10 minutes.

Not too bad .. even if it was all black, he thought as he looked in the mirror, pushed up his glasses and ran a comb through his hair, and then dashed out the door.

[MD 2, 7:15 am, Café]

His stomach was grumbling as he pushed his way into the Café. He grinned at the others and took a deep whiff of the delicious aroma that filled the air. He stopped the waitress. "Could I get a stack of pancakes and a cup of coffee at that table over there .."

She nodded and started away, but he stopped her, "Oh and you know a side order of sausage would just hit the spot."

She nodded, "Anything else?"

His brow wrinkled as he pondered the question, but he heard Kate's voice beckoning him to join them. So he shook his head and moved to take a seat at the table.

"We weren't sure you were going to join us this morning." She said.

"And miss breakfast!" Newt grinned, "Not a chance." He pushed up his glasses as he poured a bit of the heavy cream into the steaming coffee the waitress brought for him.

[MD 2, 8:00 am, Sheriff's office]

>"Hey, did you see that?"

>"See what?" Newt asked.

>"Those guys out..." Sharlyn glanced over her shoulder. "Nothing..."

Newt looked in the direction she had and saw nothing out of the ordinary, he followed her as she walked out toward the rental car. "Hey, if you saw something .."

"I'm sure it's just the event of this mission so far .. I'm a bit rattled."

Newt nodded, "Me too, but hey, it couldn't hurt to tell me what you saw."

"Just a couple of guys in a station wagon. They gave me the creeps."

"Kinda like that guy at Hoover's Hollow that first night?"

She nodded, "Yeah .. just one of those sort of things."

He hurried to open the door for her, "Don't worry," he grinned, pushing his glasses up, "I won't let the bad guys get ya .."

She rolled her eyes and slipped into the car. Newt chuckled and followed her.

[MD 2, 8:20 am, Hough's place]

The remaining agents pulled up to the Hough's place, and immediately several dogs started barking. Stepping out of the car Newt was vaguely reminded of home. The old farm house had an late 1800's look to it, much like his parents home, with a long porch running the length of the house and a little off to the side.

"I don't think all of us need to go in," Flynn said turning back to look at Sharlyn and Newt, "So you two scout the area, while Dinah and I go in."

Newt nodded, "Sounds good to me. How about you?" he asked of Sharlyn.

Sharlyn nodded and they all got out of the car. Flynn and Dinah headed toward the farm house, while Newt and Sharlyn headed down the dirt drive.

Newt pushed up his glasses again as they walked. Sharlyn looked at him, "umm .. can I ask you a question."

"Sure."

"Have you considered contacts .. you know so you don't have to keep doing that."

"What?"

"Pushing up your glasses."

He chuckled self-consciously, "Well, I guess it's just habit. I don't even notice I do it anymore."

They continued walking following the perimeter of the field around the farmhouse when suddenly Sharlyn stopped. Newt turned to see her face paled, "What is it?"

"The stationwagon .." Her voice was barely a whisper.

Newt turned and saw a rust covered, sandy colored station wagon suddenly speed up as he turned to look. Soon it was far off down the road. "That's the one from outside the station?"

She nodded.

"Are you sure .. it could just be coincidence?"

"A Ford station wagon, sand colored, with three men .. That's some coincidence."

Newt nodded, he had to agree with her there. "Perhaps we should stick close to the car. Just in case .."

She nodded, and the two headed back toward the car.
