[MD2, 4:45PM, near the black building]

>There was a sound, and the team hid itself even further. A man
>walked towards the woods. He had emerged from the black building,
>but it was almost impossible to say from where exactly.
>
>"Amazing," Flynn muttered. No door had opened, no light had fallen
>outside the black building. It also seemed to be the only thing he could
>see, he had to will himself to look at the man.
>
>Kate looked at Newt pointed at him and Dinah, and whispered.
>"Follow." They nodded, and swiftly and silently started to follow the man.
>"Now.. We need to come up with a game-plan to get into that building.
>Suggestions?"
>
> "The surface seems to absorb everything. I'm having difficulty keeping
>my eyes of it. Maybe the doorway's diffrent." Flynn offered in simple logic.
>
> "Still we wouldn't know what we would find in there. They could heavily
>outgun us."

"They probably do," Kate said, with a slight shrug. "See the hill, take the hill," she muttered. It was a line she had used on Josh not so long ago. It was also the way she had lived her life up to this point, and that philosophy had always served her well. Looking at the team, she could see that they were all as eager to get in there as she was. "Okay, Sharlyn, you’ll come with me. You two," she said nodding to Flynn and September, "will provide cover fire if we need it. If we get to the building without incident, you’ll join us."

A few minutes later, the four agents were standing next to the structure, having met no resistance so far. Somehow, that fact didn’t ease Kate’s mind.

Up close, the walls of the building had a matte, glassy appearance. From where they stood, there was no indication of a door or any windows. The smooth wall stretched up for about three stories where it ended in a domed roof. Strangely, being near the structure, it didn’t seem as large as it had from a distance, no bigger than an airplane hangar.

"Are you all right," September asked of Flynn. Kate and Sharlyn turned to see what was wrong and saw that Flynn was staring fixedly at the building, but obviously making an effort not to look away. He seemed to be more strongly effected by it than the others, but everyone was having difficulty concentrating on the building.

"Fine. So, how are we going to get in there?"

"Same way that man got out, I guess," Sharlyn said. "I think he came out somewhere around here. There has to be a hidden door of some kind." She started to move away from the group, inspecting the surface.

Kate reached out and put her hand against the side of the building. She shuddered at the sensation, although describing it would have been difficult. Seeing her look of confusion, September put a hand against the wall, too, and immediately pulled it back.

"It’s like.." she began, then frowned. "It’s almost like there’s nothing there, but it’s solid."

Kate nodded. As she did, a faint hiss from nearby caught everyone’s attention and they all turned in Sharlyn’s direction. A large opening had appeared in the wall - it couldn’t exactly be called a door - and Sharlyn was standing to one side of it, motioning for the others to join her.

As they approached the portal, the group could detect the distinctive smell of heated metal, as though some sort of industrial process that involved smelting was going on inside, but if there was, there was no sound associated with it. In fact, there was no sound at all.

Kate looked around at the others. They all had their guns drawn, as she did, and they were waiting for her to give the signal to go in. With a nod, she signaled to them and took a step into the black building. And found..

Nothing. The building appeared to be one large chamber. Whatever had been here - and there were tell-tale signs that something had been - was long gone. The lighting was subdued, making it difficult to see into the far recesses of the room, but not impossible. There was no one and nothing in sight except the same black walls they had seen from the outside.

The four agents took a few more steps into the building, looking around. As they did, the door, or whatever it was behind them, was suddenly back in place and the chamber was sealed.
