>"I just wonder if it isn't partly a personal vendetta," Newt blurted out.

>Kate took a deep breath and nodded. "Thank you for your opinion. Does
>anyone else have anything to add?" She scanned the faces of the rest of
>her team and saw that they didn't. "All right, then. Let me just tell you
>this, Agent Prescott. If I have personal scores to settle, they will be
>settled, but not during business hours. And quite frankly, I don't think
>I'm the one with the problem of allowing past experience to cloud
>objectivity. Now, shall we get on with the purpose of this get-together?"

Newt nodded, "Fine."

It was a curt reply and he felt bad after making it .. but honestly choosing ~Docker~ .. over Paul?? What was that all about. Paul had proven to be on their side time and time again. Docker had proved just the opposite. And the only thing Paul had done, that Newt could see was marry and divorce their team leader. Hardly a crime ..

And he hated keeping information from the man. After all how could he be expected to work with them if they didn't share what they learned. However the team had decided .. well Kate had decided and the team agreed. Newt was certain they were simply making this assignment harder then it already was. If they'd accept Paul's help they'd probably be done in no time!

>"We've got a problem. I assume you saw who we were talking to on the
>pier," she said addressing Flynn and Sharlyn. They nodded. There was a
>faint sound of disgust from Newt, but she ignored that. "Well, according
>to him, there is apparently a pattern to the timing of these rapes. He
>says there's going to be another one. Tonight. So I hope you found
>something that could be of use to us."

"Not to beat on a dead horse or anything, but how do we know that Docker won't be behind this rape tonight that he's predicting?" Newt asked.

"We don't." Kate said flatly, "However, it's not Docker's style to point us toward one of his schemes .."

"Unless he's trying to pin the blame on some other person," Newt said pointedly.

Kate shot him a look, "This is a team effort, Agent Prescott. If we can not work together on this, what kind of a team are we? You can always request to be taken off the case, if you don't agree."

"I just think we're not looking at all our options. We ~know~ Docker's dirty." Newt said. "I agreed to keep Paul out of the loop and not tell him what we've uncovered. And I'll go along with any other decisions the team makes as well. But following Docker blindly is just plain stupid!"

Flynn glared at Newt, "I hardly think you could accuse any of us of following blindly."

"That's not what I'm saying .." Newt started.

"Listen Newt," Kate said waving the others down, "Believe me, I don't trust Docker anymore then you do. This is not a popularity contest between Docker and Agent Moran. This is Delta's case, and we'll solve it .. Using all available leads. I didn't give Docker any information .. we are NOT working with him. This is still just us, and I'd like to keep it that way."

Newt nodded, "Okay. I'm sorry, Docker just gives me the creeps." He didn't add that he thought Kate was being unfair to Paul ..

Kate nodded, in reference to Docker, "Me too .."

Newt backed down and listened to the other discuss what they'd been doing all morning. Kate and the others knew where he stood and he knew where they stood. None of them were going to change their minds .. not without further information. Flynn and September were firmly behind Kate and more then a little protective of her.

Newt felt bad about that. He was behind Kate too. But he really thought she was letting her past with Paul block a valuable resource. He wished he could discuss this all with Paul. He knew that the man would be more then willing to try to work around Kate's suspicions. But he'd agreed not to talk to the man about the case ..

Well .. Newt's mind suddenly clicked .. what if they didn't discuss the case directly .. maybe there was a way around that. He left the thought percolating as it came his turn to talk about his unproductive morning of talking to rape victims.

"What's up, Newt?" the man asked as the young agent climbed into the front seat beside him.

"I really need to talk to you." Newt told him.

"Of course. I'm here for you," Paul said and Newt believed him. This was the right choice. He could watch what he said without breaking the teams confidences and still try and work out this problem between him and Kate. "I hope you don't mind riding along with me to the police station, we've got witnesses lining up to get a sketch, and I'd like to be there."

"No that's fine," Newt nodded, "Probably one of the team should be there too .. might as well be me."

Paul nodded, "Sounds fair." He turned on his blinker and carefully pulled out into traffic. "So what's on your mind."

"I'm concerned about the relationship between you and Kate .." Newt blurted out.
