Careless Santa

A Mono Puff song, recorded for the Hello Recording Club's Santa Special disc. It is described by Flansburgh as "the first finished product of my drum looping session with Yuval Gabay from Soul Coughing." (Source: Mono Puff Libretto) In an NPR interview, Flans said it was "based on a true story."

If I may digress for a moment, this song is the subject of a long-running gag on the tmbg.org mailing list. Back in late 1997, someone was compiling a mix tape of Christmas songs by TMBG and other bands, and included this song in his original list of potential tracks for the tape. Matt James (of "Matt's Life Savings" fame) did not notice this, and went on to suggest "Careless Santa" as another possible song for the tape. This spawned a long-running thread of other people suggesting "Careless Santa," and the joke is occasionally revived.
