The old Guardsman responds in a gruff voice,
I dont remember the name but if you have been here before and know where you want to go, then follow the paths above and good day. Or is it your first time here? Perhaps you wish to join the Guard? Well, if either is the case then continue with me. I am off duty and i'll show you around. Follow me."
The Guardsman leads you deeper into the Tower Garrison. Past the gate he takes you to a huge courtyard in the center of the garrison. The old soldier grumbles, "The Training Yard. Here you learn the arts of fighting and war, the use of various weapons and can practice what you learn. No finer trained soldiers than the Guard!" There was pride in his voice, and you knew he believed what he said. There are Officers walked among them, barking commands and drilling the soldiers.
As you follow the Guardsman, you hear the sounds of the smithy, and look towards it's origin to see a huge Armory. You stare with interest at the amount of weapons at the ready for the Guard's use, all sorts of swords, pikes, axes and many more you would like to learn the use off. You also see various armor and other things you dont recognize but assume they are for soldiering.
"You going to gawk all day? You'll get your chance at that stuff later." You hadnt realized you stopped and the old grizzled guardsman is several paces beyond you. You rush to catch up but he strides on without waiting.
You pass a knot of soldiers standing and talking, loud, rough looking men who seemed to be enjoying themselves while off duty. Your surprised and pleased to see soldiering might be more fun than you thought, but you also know from what you seen in the Training Yard it is hard work too.
The Gaurdsman stopped at the men, and surprised them by roaring "Get to work you lazy louts!" But when they turned to see it wasnt an officer, they all laughed and jested with him. You grinned as the Guardsman moved on.
At last he brings you to a small building, almost like a guardhouse. There is a table inside, completly covered with maps, drawings, papers by the score, and two large wood bound books. A small man sat at the table scribbling in one of the books. At first you doubt if he is a soldier, but you glimpse the green coat of the guard across the back of his little chair, and a short sword within arms reach.
The man spoke without looking up from his writing. "Leave your Message on the table, i will get to it shortly."
The old guardsman answered in a stiff voice, as to a superior. "No messages this time sir, i brought you someone who is interesting in signing up."
The slight man looked up from what he was doing to regard them. "Ah, sorry. Updates have been coming constantly by messager, cant protect a country if your left in the dark." He sighed and rubbed his eyes. "And i cant remember the last recruit we have had, they have slowed to a trickle. Thank you Guardsman, i will take care of it."
You watch as the man leaves, a fluttering nervousness in your stomach. The other man continued "So you want to sign up. Then we will see what your made off."
You take the quil in your hand, and embark on the adventure of your life.
