Individualism is a new way of living that I have invented. The basis of individualism is to (I quote Sting) "Be yourself, no matter what they say", they being non-individualists. The song from which that was taken from, Englishman In New York, is now playing. You can find the lyrics at the bottom of this page.
If you look at a group of schoolchildren, they all look basically the same. If you thin them out some, you get a group that looks exactly the same: baggy blue jeans, oversized t-shirt featuring advertising, spiky or middle-parted hair on the males, and middle-parted, unbraided/uncollected hair on the females. This is what I mean when I have a reference to people. In individualism, you must be a person, not people.
Individualism also technically outlaws mass, forced schooling. Even though it is forced, it is still non-individualist. My plan to stop this monstrosity of unrequired forced learning is as follows: On the thirteenth second of the thirteenth minute of the thirteenth hour of the thirteenth day of the thirteenth month of the thirteenth year of my life (or January 13, 1999 at 1:13:13 PM, Smarch for all you Simpsons fans) all schoolgoers will remove themselves from the concentration camp.. I mean school... in any way seen fit to the individual. Although this may seem against the basis of individualism, the timing is required in order for it to work. As long as it happens at the same time, you can do whatever you want, as individualism states.
However, for one to support one's self, one must get a job. For this to happen, one must get schooling one way or another. That is totally one's choice, as individualism states. If one should like to program computers for a living, then one should take a computer training course. Likewise, if one's wishes lead them to want to be a historian, then one should take history courses.
You may think that I don't follow my own rules by watching The Simpsons. I watch it because I like it, and I feel that most other people watch it because they like it, not because everyone else watches it. Also, with music. I've found many people like this new weird type of music that is called Alternative or something. WAKE UP!!! I've tried listening to it and I got a headache! I think the only reason people can stand it is because they grew up thinking it was the "right" or "cool" thing to do. I enjoy the Police because I like their music, not because other people like them (even though not alot of other people like them).
You may be wondering "Well, what about religion?" Well, they do say that religion is the opiate of masses. But in religion, just take what you believe to be true and become a member of the religion that is closest to your beliefs. You can then call yourself something like an Individualist-Catholic, or an Individualist-Jew, or an Individualist-Protestant, or an Individualist-Buddhist, or something like that. It's also not wrong to form your own religion; do you think that all those hundreds of religions came out of nowhere?
So, I close by saying: Don't follow the crowd! Popularity is not anything! And as John Lennon said, "All you need is love." And as Sting said, "Be yourself, no matter what they say."
Lyrics to Englishman in New York by Sting:
I don't take coffee, I take tea my dear I like my toast done on one side As you can hear it in my accent when I talk I'm an Englishman in New York You see me walking down Fifth Avenue A walking cane here at my side I take it everywhere I walk I'm an Englishman in New York Woa-oah I'm an alien I'm a legal alien I'm an Englishman in New York Woa-oah I'm an alien I'm a legal alien I'm an Englishman in New York If manners maketh man as someone said He's the hero of the day It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile Be yourself, no matter what they say Woa-oah I'm an alien I'm a legal alien I'm an Englishman in New York Woa-oah I'm an alien I'm a legal alien I'm an Englishman in New York Modesty, proprietey They lead to notoritey You can end up as the only one Genorosity, sobriety Are rare in this society At night a candle's brighter than the sun (jazzy tune) (bass drum solo) It takes more than combat boots to make a man Takes more than a license to own a gun Confront your enemies, avoid them when you can A gentleman will walk, but never run If manners maketh man as someone said He's the hero of the day It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile Be yourself, no matter what they say Be yourself, no matter what they say Be yourself, no matter what they say (repeat to fade) (saxophone solo)
