Lesson Plan - How to manage your ships inventory

Learning to manage the ships that you own, are assigned to manage, or are assigned to pilot is the first step on your way to learning how to become one of the stalwart guardians of our space ways. In this lesson you will learn several basic points such as…

  1. 1. How to access your ships inventory for ships you own, command, or pilot.
  2. 2. How to assign a ship as “player controlled”
  3. 3. How to assign a fighter as “NPC controlled”

How to access your ships inventory for ships you own, command, or pilot.

Step #1 – Log into the combine. You will be immediately met with the “information hub” on your left and a task bar to your right which displays information on your character profile. Scroll down to the segment on that task bar which states “Inventory” then click on “Ships”.

Refer to the below picture if necessary.

Step #2 – You are now in the ships inventory screen. Here you can manage all the ships that you own, command, or pilot. If you are new to the game you probably won’t have any ships unless we have already assigned you one for your use.

In the picture below I have clicked on ships. The game automatically takes me to the “Manage Personal Ship” section. This segment of the inventory screen allows you to manage all ships that your character personally owns. There you can see my 4 ships, their stats, and I can even change the name of each ship by simply double clicking on their names and typing in a new name.

Scrolling down to the bottom of the page you will notice that there is a drop down list with several options within its menu and a text box. This menu allows you to manage who can operate your ships and even give your ships to other players. Note: You can only edit a ship if you have checked the checkbox adjacent to that ship, select an option from the drop down list, and then press “Execute”!

The options are…
  1. 1. Assign – With this option you may assign your ship to another player or faction for their use.
  2. 2. Unassign – With this option you may remove the usage of your ship from another player or faction.
  3. 3. Output – Provides you with a series of statistics regarding your selected starship.
  4. 4. Change Name – Changes the name of your ship.
  5. 5. Change Multi-Names – Allows you to change the names of multiple ships at once, this can be a life saver when editing the names of entire squadrons of fighters.
  6. 6. Make Over – NOTE! This is the option used to give your ship away to another player. If you wish to do this simply check the box next to your ship. Select “Make Over”, then type in the player you wish to give your ship to or select a faction. After this you will NOT own your ship anymore.
  7. 8. Add to crew list – Allows another player or a faction to enter your ship.
  8. 9. Remove from crew list – Removes the rights of a player or faction to enter your ship.
  9. 10. Show on Galactic Map – This option brings up a map of the galaxy highlighting your ships location on the map.

If you examine the menu at the top of the picture above you will notice the links to manage your “Assigned Ships” and “Piloted Ships”.

Assigned Ships are ships which you have been selected as the commander. Factions can also be assigned as Commanders.

Assigned Ships

The assigned ships section is much like the Manage Personal Ship page. Here you will see a list of ships and there is another drop down list and execute button for you to edit the ships you command. These options are the same as you would find in the Manage Personal Ships page except you cannot give you do not have the “Make Over” option to give a ship to another player. These options are the same as on the other page because this allows players who do not own a ship personally but have it assigned to their command to edit a ship in their inventory as needed. They do not have the “Make Over” command to give that ship because they may not necessarily be the ships actual owner.

Piloted Ships

Piloted ships are ships in which you are the direct pilot. This can be different than an assigned ship as the Commander and Pilot may be different people. This page is formatted similarly to the previous two segments.

In this section you will see a listing of every ship you are assigned to as the pilot. Except this time there are little check boxes next to each ship and only one drop down list and execute button.

The options in that drop down list are…
  1. 1. Set Player Controlled – This command allows you to take personal command of a ship. Simply click on the ship you wish to personally pilot, select “Set Player Controlled” and hit execute. You will see a computer mouse icon appear on you ship’s image at the top left corner to signify that the ship is now piloted by you.
  2. 2. Set NPC Controlled – This command allows you to take control of more than one fighter and form a squadron. Once you have selected a fighter craft you wish to pilot and you have several more ships of the same fighter class you may click on those ships, select “Set NPC Control” and then hit execute. Now whenever you travel in space in your player controlled fighter your NPC controlled fighters will follow you. In order to form a squadron properly ALL fighters must be at the same location. NPC Control ONLY works with fighters and even then ONLY with fighters of the same classification (ie: Y-wings can NPC with Y-wings but not Tie Fighters). Freighters and capital ships cannot be set to NPC control.
  3. 3. Set Unmanned – This removes NPC and Player Controlled options from any ship.
