The Kazon Scoutship |
---|
Very little is known about this light attack craft, which looks much like a drastically downscaled version of its Cruiser cousin. Designed and built by the Trabe before being stolen by the Kazon, these ships, although classified as scouts, are significantly smaller than and inferior to equivalently designated Alpha Quadrant ships; they seem to be perhaps only twice the length of Starfleet's Danube-class Runabouts and can be crewed by a single individual. Indeed, Lieutenant Thomas Paris of the Voyager destroyed one while piloting a mere shuttlecraft, as did the Voyager's first officer, Commander Chakotay.Capabilities for this small ship include typical weak Kazon-blue beam weapons and torpedoes. Weapons bank locations are uncertain, but there are at least two beam emitters in the nose and an aft torpedo launcher somewhere, as well as at least one multi-directional beam emitter.
There is an interesting story concerning the filming model for the scoutship. It seems that the model itself actually looks a little different from its on-camera appearances, since several scale-reducing add-ons (making up the wings and "cockpit" detail, for example) are applied to the model before the film starts to roll. What is more interesting is that when Galoob was still making Star Trek MicroMachines, they made toys for both the filmed version and the stripped-down version, labeling the former "Raider" and the latter "Fighter," though what they called the "Fighter" never actually appeared onscreen.
