The Kazon Torpedo |
---|
While not actually referred to as "the Kazon Torpedo" in the episode in which it appeared ("Maneuvers"), this converted shuttlecraft is called by that name by various Star Trek merchandise manufacturers as well as by its designer, Rick Sternbach. The name is fitting, since the ship is essentially just a little shuttle with reinforced armor at the bow, used to pierce the hull of an enemy ship during penetration/boarding operations.According to Mr. Sternbach, the Torpedo "might have had weapons once," and it was equipped with "probably just impulse" drive. All this fits well with the Torpedo's very simple intended use: to crash through to the interior of an enemy vessel and allow a small number of Kazon to take it over in the ensuing confusion.
The pure simplicity and utter lack of grace and elegance distinguishing this tactic is a good reflection of the Kazons in general. Their technology is crude and limited, so why bother with weapons and warp drive? Just crash the party and make yourself at home.
