FAMILY AND BACKGROUND

History: Father is a retired Starfleet officer, last assigned as a Liaison Officer to the Mars Defense forces. Mother was a traditional housewife. Brother is a Lieutenant serving on Deep Space 15 as Weapons Officer. She knew the Helm family (the Captain of the Excalibur's family) on Mars and played with the Captain in the two years before he left for the Academy.
After his retirement, her father moved the family to the Maxima colony on Maxima I. This is an independent colony of people who live a hedonistic lifestyle. The loss of her friends on Mars coupled with her brother's departure for Starfleet left a void in young Griffin. This change in lifestyle of her parents also caused her some traumatic shock. She compensated for what she felt was a loss of affection from her parents by throwing herself into the hedonistic lifestyle and shunning close relationships. This caused problems in the Academy and all of her roommates asked for different partners because they were afraid of what they considered to be her sexual leanings.
At the end of the Calcar mission, the ship incurred serious damage during a surprise attack. Kristine suffered life-threatening injuries which required immediate transport to Starbase Frontier. She was relieved from duty aboard the USS Excalibur and spent several months in rehabilitation. Once fully recovered, Kristine was transferred to the USS Independence where she now serves as Operations Officer.
