The Writing Sample

In order to be considered for membership in the Final Frontier, you must complete one of the following scenarios. This way we will be able to review your writing style. Remember that posting is done in the third person. Also, please be as creative as possible (within reason, of course)!!

Scenario 1

You are a young ensign, fresh out of the Academy, assigned as a Security Officer aboard Starbase Frontier in the Beta Quadrant. You've just pulled a double shift to help out a friend who finally got a date with the Deltan that he's been chasing after for weeks. You're tired, but you're also starving so you stop in a small restaurant on the base. It's a quiet night and a few patrons are scattered here and there, clustered in small groups. Most of them are whispering except one group of raucous Klingons. They appear quite intoxicated, yelling at each other and butting heads. As their server approaches, one of the Klingons reaches for her, groping and pulling her towards him. She tries to break free, but is no match for his strength. You....



Scenario 2

You are an ensign aboard the USS Trainer assigned as the Assistant Tactical Officer. The ship has just come under attack from an unknown vessel. You are manning the Tactical Station when the Captain and the First Officer are knocked unconscious by a phaser hit to the bridge...



Scenario 3

You are an ensign aboard the USS Trainer assigned to the Engineering Department. While conducting a routine survey mission of a particular planet, the ship moves to the outer edge of the atmosphere. Suddenly, the warp core shuts itself down and goes off-line. Without power the ship starts to enter the atmosphere....



Scenario 4

You've just graduated from the academy and are assigned to the USS Independence Medical staff. It's your turn on the duty roster for the next away mission. The ship has recently come upon a curious planet and the Captain has ordered an away team down to survey the area. This is your first away assignment. Once down to the planet everything seems fine. All of a sudden you hear one of your team mates scream. The entire party rushes to his coordinates.....
