More rock and roll-ish/Sonic Youth-ish than Love As Laughter's previous lp and seven inches, #1U.S.A. seems to be a new direction for the music. Now, as L/A/L, every song is rockin'. 'Phobias' brings you back as close as you can get to old Love As Laughter. The new L/A/L is fun, and a lot like "Queen of Venus" and "I'm a Bee", rock songs Sam attempted as Love As Laughter, but now as a band, he can fully accomplish. The LP has 4-less songs than the CD, but the cover art is beautiful.
