Subject: The
Roswell Incident
Location: Roswell, New Mexico
Date: July 2, 1947
Type: Government Coverup
In
July, 1947, something very unusual happened. The Army Air Force out of
Roswell, New Mexico, reported to the press that they had recovered a crashed
flying disk. This is a fact. The press release was printed on the front
page of the Roswell Daily Record on July 8, 1947 (see right). To this day,
however, opinions vary on the facts leading up to and following that report.
Although the Roswell Incident happened nearly 50 years ago, the story did not come to light until 1979, when researcher Stanton Friedman interviewed retired Air Force Major Jesse Marcel. Since that time, many researchers have actively worked to find the truth behind one of the greatest coverups in our country's history.
On the evening of July 2, 1947, Mac Brazel, a rancher near Roswell, reported hear a loud crash in the night. There were reports of a storm, so he probably assumed it was thunder. When he went out on his ranch the following day, however, he found metallic debris on his ranch. It was a spread out over a large area, consistent with a crash.
Brazel reportedly hauled some of the debris to his shed, and contacted the sherrif. The sherrif, who was under standing orders to report any possible crashed airplanes to the AAF, contacted Major Jess Marcel, who traveled to Brazel's ranch to see the debris for himself.
The material he found is now nearly legendary in UFO folklore. Marcel spoke of seeing metal I-beams that were marked with heiroglyphs. Some other metal could be flexed, but not dented with a hammer. Nor could it be burned. Marcel also told of something like tinfoil which could be folded without creasing which would unfold into its original shape all by itself. So astounded by this material, Marcel even took some of it back to his house and showed his son.
When Marcel contacted the AAF, he was told to gather as much of the debris as he could carry and bring it back to base. When he did, Colonel William Blanchard ordered a Lieutenant Haut to release a statement confirming that wreckage of a flying disk had been recovered near Roswell. Marcel was then told to recover the rest of the wreckage and escort it to Wright Field (now Wright-Patterson AFB) in Dayton, Ohio.
On the way, Marcel stopped in Fort Worth, Texas, where General Roger Ramey instructed Marcel to say nothing about what he found. A second press conference was held in Fort Worth, the HQ of the 8th Air Force, and the press was told that the report from Roswell was a mistake. Only a weather balloon had been found. To further illustrate the point, a wrecked weather balloon was brought in, complete with tinfoil-wrapped balsa wood.
Back in Roswell, Brazel claimed he was intimidated by the AAF. He said they forced him to go on the radio and lie about the flying disk story being a hoax. For his testimony, he was supposedly bribed with a new freezer.
Later reports indicate there may have been a second crash near Socorro, New Mexico. This site, from witnesses reports, also included the bodies of four alien greys -- at least one of whom was still alive. Whether this was a second crash, or related to the Roswell Incident, is uncertain.
Many questions
arise from the Roswell Incident:
1. If the AAF claimed the wreckage was just a weather balloon, why was
it sent "under guard" to Wright Field?
2. Why, in 1995, did the Air Force recant the weather balloon story and
claim it was part of the "top secret" Project Mogul, a project
which had been known about for decades?
3. How could Maj. Marcel, who was a part of the 509th Composite Bomb Wing,
mistake a weather balloon for a flying saucer?
4. Why did Col. Blanchard order the press release if it was just a weather
balloon?
5. What happened to the recovered material? Is it still at Wright-Patterson?
If the story was just a hoax, why is there no mention of it in any Air Force records, including Project Sign (the precursor to Project Blue Book)? Both Projects Sign and Blue Book list numerous cases which are proven hoaxes. With the number of witnesses coming forward in the past fifteen years, it seems impossible that the events of July 2, 1947, never happened. Yet, that is just what the United States government wants us to believe.
