The certilians are essentially highly evolved lizardmen; they
are not direct descendents, however. Where lizardmen seem to have
evolved from semi-aquatic reptiles, certilians have evolved from
reptiles of the desert. Their snouts are shorter than the lizardman's,
and their skin tone ranges from a sandy yellow to a deep brown.
Like lizardmen, they have violent tendencies and are more likely
to respond to the unknown with violence than curiosity. In spite
of this, certilians are quite unlike lizardmen. This is seen in
part by their attribute adjustments, which are as follows:
STR +2, WIS +1; CHR -2, INT -1
A mere -1 INT is a far cry from the low intelligence of the lizardmen. As they are often misunderstood and feared, mistaken for their dim-witted and barbaric lizardman cousins, their CHR suffers a -2. The certilians are incredibly strong, and receive a +2 to STR. WIS receives a +1, as these reptiles have become fairly wise in the ways of the world and have an amazing priesthood. Certilians have a wide range of choices for character classes. The classes and their respective level limits (U = Unlimited) are as follows:
Priest: U Fighter: U Mage: 10 Thief: 10 Ranger (desert): 15
The ranger is the only sub-class specified, but certilians may advance without limit in any priesthood of their culture. The druid class may even be utilized, though it should have a desert slant rather than a forest slant. Certilians have no paladins, specialist wizards, or bards.
Certilians are tribal, but they
do not prey on other sentient beings as the lizardmen do. They
are omnivores, and they prefer rabbit and coyote meats. Certilians
favor the axe over other weapons, though they may learn to use
any weapon available to their class. All certilians have a natural
attack (claw, claw, bite) of 1d3x2/1d6. If "Skills and Powers"
is used, certilians get no points to spend on race characteristics,
as they are already a formidable race.
