Devil's Club

This weapon gets it's named from the plant from which it must be harvested. The Devil's Club plant is a large thistle/briar that grows 10 to 15 feet tall. The branches at the top are thin and flexible. However, at the base of a mature plant, the stalks can be up to 6 inches in diameter and as hard as an oak. The plant is covered in thorns which unlike many other briars are as jagged as they are sharp. Clubs are made from the lower portions of these plants. These weapons are the same speed and weight as normal clubs. However they recieve a +1 to damage for the thorn-spikes that cover the club (except for the handle which has been carefully cleaned off and most often bound in leather). Any and all non-magical healing is always at 1/2 the normal rate because the wounds made by the jagged thorns are hard to close, almost impossible to suture effectively, and very difficult to keep clean. These weapons are only made by deep woodland dwellers  wild elves, sylvan elves, dryads, etc. Brownies, pixies and such are too small to harvest these plants. Occassionally druids will employ these weapons, but they are likely to be infuriated by any non-druid or deep woodland type "using Nature for their own gains". { It has also been rumored that some goblins and gnolls have used these weapons (obviously stolen) in war and laced the thorns in poison. Legend also has it that there exists one of these weapons that has been magically enhanced to +2/+3 against rangers and druids. It is an evil abomination as far as the forest communities are concerned. The name of this club is "Nature's Bane".} These clubs cannot be bought, and are likely only to be "given" to PCs as payment/rewards for some service rendered.
