HOME MADE ROUND ALTAR

Your Altar is a very personal item, as is all of your altar accessories. It is not necessary to make an Altar. You can use anything that you are comfortable, but eventually, you usually will want to make something with you in it. I wanted to use something I had not used before, so I decided to make a round Altar. I thought of a lot of ways to make it before I came up with the plan I wanted to use, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the finale product! The whole thing cost apx. $12.00; $3.00 for the stool at a thrift store, $3.95 for the smaller piece of wood, $4.95 for the larger piece of wood, and I already had some pieces of left over wood from other projects for the rectangle pieces needed and I had several left over brass nails. If you have to buy all of the pieces, it may cost $15.00 using regular nails! I used two pieces of wood because I wanted a shelf to hold things, but you could make it easier and cheaper using only one.

THE ALTAR

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

1) 2 pieces of round wood. One larger then the other. Sizes depend on how large you want it. I bought my pieces at HQ, and as stated above, it can be made with only one piece of wood
2) A tall, round, stool, like a bar stool. I paid $3.00 for mine at a thrift store.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
3) Paint, your color choice
4) Hammer & nails (I had a few left over brass nails that I used)
5) 4 small pieces of wood, square or rectangles, your choice (optional)
6) Goop. Plumbers, household or shoe Goop, doesn't matter, Goop is Goop. (optional)

PROCEDURE:
I'm not an artist but there is a small diagram at the bottom of the page to help you a little, until I can get my photos up.

1) If the stool has a padded seat on it, remove it, foam and all, so you have only the wooden seat left.
2) Take the smaller piece of wood, and place the four little rectangle (or square) pieces of wood on it, so that it forms a square pattern, not too close together. mark where they are with a pencil, then turn the wood over so your markings are facing the ground and replace the four little pieces of wood in the spots you marked. Now nail them into place from the top.
3) Place the smaller piece of wood that now has the little pieces of wood nailed to it on the wooden seat of the stool, so the four pieces of wood are pointing upwards, and nail into place apx. where the legs of the stool meet the seat of the stool.
4) For extra strength, you can place a quarter size dollop of goop on top of each of the four little pieces of wood that are pointing upwards (this step is optional, if you don't want to add Goop, skip this and go on to step # 5.
5) Now place the larger circle of wood on top and center well. Nail it into place being sure your nails are going into the four little pieces of wood that are pointing upwards. You now have a round Altar. with a shelf to hold lighter, extra candles, ect...
6) Paint the Altar in the color of your choice, I painted mine black, and let dry over night, then put a protective coat of Clear Seal or Polyurethane over the entire altar, let dry, paint symbols if desired, and it's ready for dedication!

NOTE: To make the Altar with only one round piece of board, follow step # 1, and then nail a piece of round wood directly on the wooden seat of the stool, then step # 6.
